This was a lot older than what most of the other reviewers probably had. Ours was prune juice color, dark red and brown, maybe edges of brighter amber.
Pure barrel on the nose up front. Smell is pretty hot. Then all of a sudden I get a freshly deep fried classic donut.
Some fig in flavor, with an abundance of thick sweetness, but overall hot, with not much of a barleywine presence, just a lot of barrel coming through and dominating. We had another old barleywine this day and it was exactly the opposite. You never know what's going to happen with these things.

this beer is definitely super sweet. like insanely sweet. it was a bit too over the top for me. the bourbon is there but its mostly just a plethora of sweet dark fruits. the finish is even a bit smoky...i found it odd. for the ABV it shouldnt be this sweet. its still drinkable...but wasnt a favorite of mine. i wouldnt seek it out again.

I like sweeter beers but this is a bit over the top. I can't really discern any particular flavors other than an overarching sweetness. It does pour nicely, creating a nicely formed and lasting head. Nothing really notable other than that. The alcohol punch certainly is there ... in the time it took to write this I'm already experiencing moderate effects.
