On tap in a snifter at the brewpub on 10/31/11

Deep, browned amber. Rather murky looking and cloudy. 1/3rd inch head thins to a skim and collar retention. Sporadically spaced lace drapes the glass - decent, yeah.

Orange peel hop aroma and a spritz of lemon juice. Juicy with a lightly floral, herbal tone. Bread and caramel balance. Tastes similar, though hops are mostly herbal and grassy. Faint citrus and pine. Bitterness cuts through dusty caramel and toasted bread, casting a long, almost astringent, shadow on the finish. A medium is rocked by angry carbonation. Said carbonation is quite vicious, ushering away in a hurry each sip. It leaves that danged bitterness, though.

Overall impression - some ok things going on but the carbonation and bitterness drag it down in general (not to mention to style).

Pours a light amber color with a thin head and minimal lacing down the glass. The aroma is faint, there is some caramel malt and maybe a touch of citrus. The taste was good, but very mellow for an american ipa. The hop presence was very weak compared to other american pales. There is a caremel malt backbone with some hops over top. The mouthfeel is moderately carbonated. The drinkability is good, you good have a couple, there hop bitterness is not there like others. An average beer.

on tap poured into a pint glass

a: amber color, slight lacing cap. decent amount of carbonation visible.

s: citrus hop, light and slightly caramalized malt

t: pretty well balanced citrus hop and light pale malt. I do notice a chalkyness that I have tasted in other beers here. I think some oxygenaztion is present.

m&d: light to medium bodied, well carbonated. Decent APA, but I'd expect this quality from a homebrewer not a brewpub.

cheers!!!

Having a hotel near the brewpub definately has its perks.

The beer was probably the best of the eight that I had during my last Colubus visit. The beer begins with a crystal clear copper-golden color. An intial formitable head falls to a trace a laces a bit. The hop profile is classic American and shines in the nose with a light caramel backdrop. The beer harkens back to the 2-row/6-row combination that was typical in the early Anchor Steam days. The hops have a clean bitterness and offer light notes of pine, citrus, and grasses throughout. The body is moderate or maybe a tad light but makes the beer crisper and more drinkable than sweeter varieties. Finishes with a clean and resourceful bitterness above the grahm-cracker dry maltiness.

I probably should have stuck with this beer as I was less impressed by Elevator's other beers.

Poured from the tap to a wine styled sampling glass.

Appearance- Beer pours a pale amber with lacing that doesn't really cling to the sides of the glass much. Carbonation forms a slight ring and penninsula around the glass.

Smell- Citrus and pale malts. This is quickly shaping up to be a great American Pale. Claims to be a milder IPA on the little paper thing they have around the stem of the glass. I disagree, the hop profile here smells much different.

Taste- Mild pale malts with an excellent balance of hops. This is an excellent example of the style, hops don't overpower, are present, and so balanced.

Mouthfeel- Ceramy, smooth, balanced, medium-lightly carbonated, and medium-light bodied.

Drinkability- Wonderful, drinkable, what else can I say? A very well crafted Pale Ale.
