Orangish amber that is perfectly clear with the exception of a wispy plume of slightly darker smoke that lingers at mid-glass. A compact cap of dirty ecru foam shrinks to one finger rather quickly and then decides to hang around for a bit. As the beer falls with drinking, several concentric rings of attractive lace can be seen.

The aroma is passable, but not much more than that. For one thing, it's too weak. There's a suggestion of orange citrusy hops (Cascade, among others), but they wimp out before they can impart any pleasure whatsoever. Even if the intensity was bumped up, I still feel that this would be a rather dull APA nose.

Whistle Stop is decent beer. A simple lack of ingredients appears to be its biggest Achilles heel. Even though it's both undermalted and underhopped, hops have the upper hand. There's a ghost of a good flavor (maybe that's what that smoke-like apparition was that was visible after the pour), but it's frustratingly elusive.

A metallic flavor was noted early on. As the beer warms, it's becoming more of a mineral-like flavor that isn't unpleasant in the least. The body/mouthfeel seemed light initially, but is firming up a little as the ounces disappear. It never does reach medium though and doesn't lose its frank wateriness on the finish.

St. Stan's Whistle Stop Ale isn't bad beer, but in the end it misses the boat (misses the train?). Even though I've had worse, there have to be dozens upon dozens of better pale ales out there. In fact, most of you probably have local APAs that are every bit as good, if not better.

I had this on tap at their brewpub in Modesto. The beer was poured with a nice light copper color with a minimal off-white head and nice lacing.

Not much nose to this beer. Some light hop/pine aroma and just a whiff of malt.

The taste is decent and I was surprised it was as good as it was given the lack of distinct aroma. However, the beer had nice astringent hop bite with some citrus and pine tastes. It was very cleansing and had a nice balance.

Decent crisp mothfeel and good drinkablity round out this beer. A solid APA.

As it spills from the bottle a limpid amber color, the head substantial in size and bubbly in texture, the color off white with a rather patchy bit of lace. Nose is deep sweet malt, fresh and pleasing, even a slight hint of hop floral tones, start is lightly sweet, malt rich with the top skeletal in feel. Finish is mellow in its acidity, the hops adequately spicy, but overall a bit weak and watery, not as full as it once was, and mores the pity.

Medium golden brown color, medium white foamy head. Aroma is malty and slighlty sweet. A medium bodied pale ale. Malty are fruity and sweet. Hops are spicy and slightly bitter. Nice balance. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and hoppy. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

A decent pale ale from CA. The color was that of gold straw. On the nose were notes of fruit & hops. I thought it was clean & refreshing w/ a sort of dry finish, but overall a average pale ale. There’s really nothing that stands out.
