650ml bottle. The gusher upon popping the cap was quite unexpected for this particular brewer.

This beer pours a clear, pale straw colour, with two fingers of foamy, chunky white head, which leaves a solid wall of padded lace around the glass as it duly settles. It smells of bitter pine and citrus rind, caramel cream, a bit of pineapple and other muddled tropical fruits, and some struggling sweet pale malt. The taste is quite bitter upfront, the pine, citrus, and other nondescript tart fruitiness equally culpable. Some grainy malt and further tropical fruit round things out.

The carbonation is average, not too strong, and not too soft; the body a near medium weight, with an astringency that messes with any outright smoothness. It finishes still with the pine and citrus hops in charge - the malt and tropical fruits still just side players at this point.

A pretty one-sided antipodean-influenced IPA. Huh. After experiencing the equally one-sided Australian culture shock of the Alberta mountain parks this past week, I can't help but be flummoxed by the associated apophenia...

Appearance - Pours a clear, golden straw/yellow (almost like apple juice) with a white frothy head. Bubbles are present.

Smell - Tropical fruits (passionfruit, mango, papaya, pineapple), slight hint of pine and orange.

Taste - The hops bitterness is predominant with that slight pine flavour. Tropical fruits (as detected in the aroma) comes through lightly. A touch of spiciness is noticeable as well.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with a good level of carbonation. Bitter finish and aftertaste from the hops.

Overall - One of the better offerings I've enjoyed from Dead Frog Brewing. They seem to get it right with this IPA by balancing the fruity and hopped flavours.

A: Crystal clear, golden yellow with a white head, bit of retention, leaves a little leg.

S: Marmalade, mango, papaya and grass with hints of candied pineapple and sponge toffee.

T: Papaya and mango with an almost harsh bitterness, orange rind, sponge toffee, tangerine, pine, candied pineapple.

M: Well-attenuated moderate body has a light hop acidity.

D/O: A good drinker and overall good brew. The hopping is certainly different... and seems a bit odd. Not your traditional American IPA.

A - fully clear golden, two finger of fluffy head retained very well with loads of lacing all around
S - very fruity with mandarin citrus, light perfume, and lightly grainy
T - an interesting hop bomb with a dry resiny flavour, grapefruit rind, some pine, and light toasty malt, very different from the nose
M - light body with a very aggressive bitterness
O - a big hop bomb that is definitely unique, the bitterness is in your face, definitely hop heads only need apply

650ml bottle poured into tulip 9/1/12

A looks like light colored carbonated apple juice only with a nice bone white two finger soapy head that leaves 5 distinct thin rings of lace, pretty light colored compared to most IPA's but pretty sexy looking stuff

S lots of tropical fruits guava, mango, papaya, and pineapple to go with some butterscotch and faint pine with a little lemon rind, pretty sexy smelling stuff

T a little more pine then I could smell with a little spicy hop aspect too confuse me further. I like the cirtic notes mixed with a little pine and rind but not as much as the intense tropical notes I could smell

M light and fluffy from the bubbles, a little bitter bite to it and just a little something being left behind on the gums

O very well concealed booze and a complex hop profile that I never really did figure out help its cause even further, I liked this much more then expected

Perhaps I should give Dead Frog a little more credit because this ones great, interesting hop profile and a pretty solid IPA all around worth trying for sure.

First off, please ditch the cash money style labels. On to the beer, this could be the first India Summer Ale; light colour and malt body with interesting hop notes ( Nelson Sauvin ?) from New Zealand. The beer is at first a little unblanced but quite soon the hops meld with malt and become quite drinkable. Very different than any other IPA in BC and a good seasonal from Dead Frog. How about a good 12 oz IPA that we can buy year round

From the bottle: An intensely fresh, aromatic, hop forward IPA that is Fusion Hopped(tm) to meld hops from Down Under with premium malts resulting in an explosive start and long lasting finish!

Appearance. Pours a very clear, pale gold with a hint of amber and over a finger of foamy white head.

Smell. Big citrus fruits. Some light, toasted grains and tree sap. Smells pretty good.

Taste. Big citrus rinds, pine sap and floral hops along with good toasty light malts. Big bitter finish. Quite dry.

Mouthfeel. Medium body with medium carbonation.

Overall. Decent hop bomb here. I liked it alright.
