Bottle consumed in SF with some fellow ba's. Cheers!

A: Black as sin with a bigger head expected from sucha high gravity beer.

S: Some spices, Burnt malt, Muscovado-sugar, Hint of port wine, and ripe dark fruit.

T: Anise, Ripe fruit, Muscovado-sugar, Molasses, Hint of port wine, Hint of alcohol.

M: Smooth with surprisingly little amount of alcohol in the aftertaste. On the sweet side and not overly complex but still tasty.

For being 18.5% abv this is a seriously good brew. It's damn smooth and what it lacks in complexity it makes up for in elegance. I'll be going back to this one in a couple of years to see what it ages like.

Baggio cracked this one open a few days back. Thanks, Rob.

Pours the expected opaque black, with a surprisingly tall and lasting tan head.

Heavily roasted and sweet nose, turbinado sugar sweetness mixed with some of that tar-like burnt malt aroma that's signature of a lot of Scandinavian stouts. There's some raisin-like fruitiness, too, and shockingly little alcohol given the ABV.

Flavors of burnt sugar, charred malt and anise are prominent, with a slight dark fruit character beneath it all. Medium-full body, surprisingly balanced and not particularly hot - this is like Mikkeller Black, but actually good. It's not the most complex imperial stout out there, but it's an impressive display of high gravity brewing; this is stronger than last year's Black Tuesday, and no barrels were used to boost the beer's alcohol.

A: Pour is black with a rather small off-white head that sinks into some lacings.

S: Very sweet and vineous. Dark dried fruits and some alcohol. Coffee.

T: Molasses and dark dried fruits. They put a lot of fruits in it; dates, figs, raisins as well as honey and star anise along with quite some chocolate. All the ingredients are present in the flavour. But the alcohol is obvious.

M: Full, almost thick body and mild carbonation. Aftertaste is not that long - sweet and kind of rough. The alcohol gives it a warmth.

D: To much alcohol. And all the muscavado suger together with the fruits etc. in the beer makes it to sweet - but since the Eisbock-method isn't allowed (or at least used) in Sweden they have to put all the suger and fruits in it to get the ABV up. If they meant to make the beer as strong as possible - mission accomplished. Otherwise they could have left some of all the sweet stuff out, and made a more balanced beer.

The brew is clouded dark brown, a bit grayish, a tan head leaving some lacing. Lots of curtains when whirled.

The smell has burnt sugar, strong wine and roasted dark coffee beans.

The taste is dark syrup, Madeira, some anise and ripe cheese. Surprisingly little bitterness.

A small carbonation, rich, complex, oily and alcoholic feelings.

A good beer to sip after dinner with some strong cheese. At this point rumored to be the strongest brewed in Sweden.
