Opaque chocolate brown with an inch of frothy tan head that recedes to a thin creamy blanket and stays.

Aroma of roasted nuts with molasses and maple sweetness and a mild alcoholic spice.

The brew lays down some rich malty flavors of sweet molasses and roasted almonds to start things off. Then the warm bite from the alcohol comes in but is not overpowering. It finishes off with a nice roasted malt flavor of coffee and chocolate. I can also detect a hint of coconut which adds an interesting touch.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied initially but finishes somewhat watery (seems a little thin for the style.) Also very smooth and low level of carbonation.

Not a bad brew. A lot of interesting and complex flavors going on. Plently of superior brews out there but this one is worth a try.

LOOK: 12 oz twist off cap. Brown with an off white soapy foam. Recedes to a ring and leaves behind no real lacing.

SMELL: Bready toasted malts. A hint of smoke and fruity yeast. Malty dark lager beer.

TASTE: Caramel malts and a small note of dark fruits. Nutty, powdered cocoa notes from the malt are welcome here. Really no hint of alcohol, this is a deceiving brew. Hops are mild and provide a light citrusy note and soft bitterness.

FEEL: Medium bodied, medium level of carbonation. Sweet malty flavors linger into a pleasant finish.

OVERALL: A nice malty bock from Sprecher. I could easily drink mass quantities of this. Good flavor!

Appearance: nice clear bronze. Not much of a head, wispy and of white.
Smell: malty and fairly rich. A good nose for a doppel, not outstanding.
Taste: very similar to the nose. Good, rich, nothing outstanding, fairly simple.
Overall: just a repeat of the nose and taste comments. Good not great.

This Dopple Bock pours a deep copper/amber and has a thin tan head which dissipates fairly quickly. The aroma is sweet with dark fruit and a bit of alcohol (not bad). Dark fruit continues into the flavor profile and is complimented nicely by a nutty sweetness. The beer finishes sweet and fast with dryness lingering on the back of the tongue. There is a slight alcohol warmth which goes great on a cold evening. If I ice-fished, this might be the beer I take along.

Price was great @ $6.49/4
