Pouring this beer into a glass is beautiful as the carbonation rises to the top with create the perfect head. The color is a semi-clear, golden yellow with a fluffy off-white head. The scent is mainly yeast and wheat giving it an overall pilsner scent but with a twist of citrus.

The taste is rather bold and daring. The wheat and hops are on the frontline as they attack your taste buds. Slowly there is a sweetness that grows in your mouth however it finishes with a dry, crisp after taste. The texture is smooth which delivers a decent overall volume to the beer.

I’ve had quite a few Sprecher beers in my time and I can’t ever say I have ever had a bad one. This Summer Pils is a complex lager that you don’t often see in a summer beer. It is just as refreshing as it is interesting. Perhaps what it lacks is that traditional pilsner taste, but then again they do advertise this as “Czech Style.” As with most Sprecher brews, you get a full 16 ounces to enjoy in every bottle which always a huge plus!

Poured into a pint glass from the bottle, this Pils was a yellow straw color. Producing a finger head, an Earthy aroma was apparent. The initial taste was a mildly sweet earthy flavor with a slightly bitter aftertaste. What was exceptional about this beer was the mouthfeel. A smooth, creamy texture coated the tongue nicely, making the flavor hold.

For a lot reasons, it is not easy to make an interesting pilsner. This brew was smooth and would be an easy drink on a hot summer day. It is certainly a better pilsner than the one produce a few miles south of Sprecher at a certain macrobrewery.

on tap at devils den in philly

Pours a clouded golden yellow color, with a crop of white head resting on top. Plenty of white lacing on the glass with some filmy legs.

Lemon peel and grassy notes in the nose, some soapy notes as well. Light hops with toasted grain and faint metallic hints.

Light bitterness up front with soft hops. Soapy and metallic throughout. Light toasted cracker notes with bready malts. Hints of citrus as well. Finishes a little dry and sticky.

Lighter medium body, higher carbonation, sticky and unfortunately lingering. This was pretty terrible to be honest, poor flavor, boring scent, and forgettable in nearly every way.

A - Slightly hazy pale yellow with a thin white head. Low retention and lacing.

S - Sweet straw notes accompanied by mild peppery hops.

T - Identical to the nose. A sweet malty straw backbone with a mild peppery hop finish.

M - Thin and somewhat watery on the palate.

O - Although this isn't my favorite style of brew, it was enjoyable. Definitely an easy drinker that anyone could enjoy.

Fresh bottle from the brewery. Great summer beer, refreshing after a very hot Milwaukee day. Nice foam head retained on mellow yellow body. A little cheese smell but mostly pleasant aroma. A lemon citrus and tastes more bitter than it likely is. Easy mouthfeel and a good drinker.

16 oz bottle poured into a pint glass
I am really becoming a Sprecher fan. This is one great Pils. Balanced on the spicy hop side but the malt is right there as well.
Look is a golden body with a 2 finger head that lasted until the end.
Smell is pretty mild and mostly spicy hops.
Taste was a surprise after the mild smell. Really get a nice spicy hop kick then that great pils. Malt flavor takes over.
Feel carbonation is perfect, finishes dry and clean.
Overall this is probably one of the best pils I can remember having in a long time. I’ll be picking up many more of these 4 packs.

Handed off to me a light yellow-wheat color with next to no head from the tap (I'm guessing this is more the fault of the bar I'm in than the brewery). A bit cloudy with some mild carbonation. The bouquet has very prominent caramel at the front, with more subtle sour and bread notes as an undercurrent. The first tastes I'm struck with are those of sourdough bread and caramel malts, which transitions to some dry tartness and finally a lingering hop bitterness on the palate. Some hints of rye and citrus in the mix. A bit of funkiness in there, as well. The feel is light-bodied and crisp, with plenty of effervescence and acidity.

This pilsener is a little too sour and funky to really be enjoyable to me, though it does have some really engaging flavors that yield some good complexity. It seems like a beer that doesn't quite know what it wants to be; but then again, I'm not one who drinks a lot of Czech style pilseners. Definitely worth a try if you get the chance (especially if, like me, you get to try it for 2 bucks on tap).

Bottled May 31st.

A - Slightly hazy, bright golden with a fluffy white head. Huge patches of lace cling to the glass.

S - Spicy hops with sweet, grainy malt.

T - Spicy, herbal hops shine with crisp grainy pilsner malt in the background. Much hoppier in flavor than aroma.

M - Smooth, clean and crisp with a lingering dry finish.

D - About time their is a local pils with a good dose of hops. For those that like their pils a little hoppier this will be a great summer refresher.

Poured into a pilsner a vibrant lighter to medium golden with a fluffy bone white head atop that left broken sheets of lace as it settled slowly.Toasted cereal grains and herbal hops in the nose, pleasant but not to assertive. The palate is much more hop assertive, a big shot spicy saaz hops really jump out over top of a crisp cracker dryer malt profile,a sharp, dry, crisp pilsner. This is a great pilsner, maybe the best I have had,the hops are big and the malt is dry and crisp,a great beer.

16 oz twist-top bottle poured into a pilsner glass.
5.0% ABV, 11133 on neck (Bottled April 20th, 2011)

A - Vibrantly clear and golden straw yellow in color, this pils is topped by a two-finger, loosely packed white head. The effervescent foam lingers for a bit then leaves patchy lace left on the glass.

S - Subtle spicy notes of Saaz hops balance the smooth, slightly sweet pilsner malt well. The soft water rounds the nose out with a touch of authenticity.

T - Assertively hopped for a pilsner (or what pilsner has become), the Saaz impart a bold earthy and spicy bite to the taste. Unmatched by malt, the usual pils sweetness of this style gets washed to the background of this beer. Curiously, the flavor still remains delicate.

M - Soft water lends a smooth, clean feel accented by playful carbonation to this brew. The crisp, clean beer finishes with a bright but welcome bitterness from the Saaz.

O - Sprecher's newest addition to the lineup is quite a welcome one as it reaches to and exceeds a style that seems dumbed down as of late. The fragrant aroma and crisp, clean flavor and feel make it both a great nod to a classic Czech pils as well as a spectacular refreshing summer beer!
