Made the drive down to Port Huron from (just west of) Toronto to get my hands on some of the good Michigan craft beers that aren't availabe in NY (Bell's, Founders, Dark Horse, etc.).
I went to 4 different places, some of which appeared to have potenial from reading on line reviews and if not for Ryan's, the entire trip would have been a waste. The other places had very little selection. None of them had a single Founder's Beer and most of the Bell's stouts were nowhere to be found either.
Then I walked in to Ryan's as my last stop, already disappointed and feeling like I had just wasted a whole day, but Ryan's changed my mind right away. They had Hopsalm, Founders Breakfast Stout, Foudners Double Trouble, a wide variety of Dark Horse stouts and some other very interesting Michigan beer that I hadn't seen anywehre else. They also had a great selection of Great Divide, Avery, Victory, and other US micros along with a lot of great Belgian and other European beer.
The customer service was amazing too. Sammy (hope I spelled that right) was one of the most friendly and helpful store owners I have ever come across. He even offered us a free snifter each after we had purchased about 4 mixed cases of beer from him.
I would definitely go back to Port Huron just for Ryan's Party Store. And that is saying a lot because there isn't another store there that I would go back in to, even if I was already in town to visit Ryan's.
Definitely the class of the town.

I stopped in here with my girlfriend while doing a cross-border beer run in Port Huron. Quay Street brewpub, Wolverine Market, and Ryan's Party Store are all within a few minutes of each other, so we made a day trip of it and visited all three places.
Ryan's has roughly four times the selection of Wolverine but you have to watch for beers that are out of code and the prices are slightly higher. As examples, the sixers of Stone Pale Ale were best before last month, several Rogue bottles were produced in 2008 and had layers of dust on them, and various bombers were in the double digits price wise. Hence I focused on the fresh and reasonably priced stuff.
Ended up grabbing Sierra Nevada Celebration, Tumbler & Northern Hemisphere, Moylan's IPA, DIPA & Impy Stout, Southern Tier Iniquity, Heavy Weizen & Mokah Stout, a 750 of Saison Dupont, Victory Hop Devil & Storm King Stout, New Holland The Poet, Avery Collaboration & Czar, Lagunitas Maximus & Little Sumpin' Ale, North Coast Old Stock Ale & Old Rasputin, and others that I can't remember. A case and a half of these bottles, several of them bombers, ran me $150 - pretty expensive though not bad considering the caliber of beers.
The staff weren't nearly as friendly as the Wolverine folks but they did give us some empty six packs and a couple 2-4 boxes to carry the beers with. The owner explained to me that they don't break apart six packs because nobody would want the leftover brews. As a result I wasn't able to buy a few bottles that I snagged from sixers but I still managed to get a good haul of decently fresh, world class beer.
Overall, this store has the largest variety in town and it's a very convenient border stop for beer-deprived Ontarians. I will be back for many more beer hauls in the future.

This was the last stop on our way back to Canada from visiting Michigan for a beer haul. A decent selection for the beer they do have, but I found the prices be at least three dollars more on a lot of bombers then I had found at some other places in the state just down the highway. Even the 4 pk's and 6 pk's were a couple dollars more. They did have The Oracle, so I grabbed one bottle of that and a 4 pk of Founders Breakfast Stout. A good selection for Michigan beers and even some California stuff with some other states too. Not a bad place and good selection, just wasn't too impressed with the prices.

I live across the river from Port Huron in Canada, and our beer selection is ABYSMAL. I decided to try this place out after reading the reviews here.
Not an enormous selection like i'd hoped, but 1000x better than what I can get at home. I was suprised to see a nice Belgian selection, but most of the micro stuff focused on Michigan and other US brewers ( which is fine with me)
I expected the prices to be much lower however, so i didnt get the haul that I hoped. I only ended up getting a bottle of St bernardus Abt12 (9.99) and a Stone Double Bastard (7.99)
I'll definitely be back to get some Michigan stuff in the future, since its the only way I can get non-canadian craft brews

This seems to be the best place to get craft beer in Port Huron, and is very close to the bridge from Canada.
It's your basic American liquor store I'd say, with the entire back row stocked with craft beers. Very good selection of bombers, 4 packs, and 6 packs. Mostly american craft beer but a decent selection of Belgians as well. Some of the beers are refrigerated.
As a Canadian the prices seemed high to me, but I really am not that familiar with how much beer normally costs in the US. For 4 bombers, a 4 pack of KBS and a 6 pack of Founders IPA the bill was just over $60

Ryan's is a place with a solid selection, and some beers that you can't get anywhere else. It's one of the best places in town for that reason. Sadly the prices were a bit higher than I liked.
I do Port Huron beer runs every now and then, and I find going to Wolverine's just down the road first is nice, as it has fairly similar selection at cheaper prices, and then I pick up what ever else at Ryan's.
IMO these are the best stores in town that I'm aware of, and they're both about a 3 minute drive apart. Check em both out.
Sadly I had to bump down the quality a couple notches as a few things we got there had some bad dates on them. If it was one 6pk I wouldn't have, but 4 is another issue.

Excellent store, friendly staff, great selection in both coolers and on shelves. Tons of Michigan locals to make any Canadian happy (Shorts, Bells, Founders, Dark Horse) Grabbed a sixer of Shorts ControversiALE. Prices seem dead on to what you would expect. Unfortunately by the looks of the shelves they don't break six packs, although with the store being rather tight I can understand why.
The parking lot is a little small but when we got there there was only two or three cars so we found a spot no problem. Will return before heading back to Canada.

Ryan`s Party Store is a must visit beer run stop for Ontario BAs. Just over the border in Port Huron, easy to find. Its essentially a convenience store with an amazing beer selection. At the back of the store is the coolers stocked full and across the isle is a shelf with more bombers and 6 packs. Great selection, plenty of Michigan locals like Bell`s, Founders & Shorts. Some attention is needed for dating, but if you know your beer releases you`ll be good. I find they have some different stock from the other store in town and thus are an essential stop. One of the highlights worth mentioning is the service; absolutely helpful and accommodating staff.
Downside is not being able to buy singles, they do have a very small mix a 6 fridge that doesn't have many appealing beers. Often find limit of 1 special releases here which is nice as it allows us Canadians a chance to come across limited run beers.
A great destination for American craft beer runs in Port Huron.

Stopped by this place for the first time in March, 2008. I was very surprised by the quaity and selection of beer at this store. I had a long talk with the owner of the store and he seemed very interested in the Craft Beer Scene and he carried a good selction of local Michigan beers as well as some hard to find imports.
Since Port Huron is on the Canadian border and Ryan's is close to the bridge, I believe the good selection of beer is generated by the infulx of Canadian beergeeks rather than consumption by the locals.
If you are in town, give this place a look. The owner's are friendly and are making an effort to offer good beer in a small town.

Ryan's is a bit of a sleeper..looks like your average neighborhood liquor store..but it is not..at least 8 cooler doors of beer, and a full aisle of it warm..plus a singles/mix a six cooler..very cool..selection is great..Bombers, sixers and singles..imports, and domestics...all pretty well organized and clean..the service is great. it is a busy place.. but the owner/manager makes an effort to answer questions and down right talk beer with you for a while..I love that..and they also seem to be very willing to order or track down any beer you are looking for, available in MI of course..which can be a tough job..prices are more than fair...they also have some beer glasses for sale to all for a fair price..if you find yourself in Port Huron, know that you have a source for good beer here...
