On my way to Columbus to visit Gottberg Brewery I thought it was prudent to stop at Lazlos for a beer. Thus we did. My directions were way off and luckily Tara spotted the building, otherwise I would have missed it. The Lazlos is tucked off the main road in town; it is a big, standalone building with plenty of parking. I visited on a lazy Saturday afternoon, there was a handful of people eating and drinking.
A large waiting room greeted us as we entered; dining areas are forward with the bar to the right as well as a veranda-like room. Typical Lazlos vibe: clean, causal with a slightly upscale, sterile chain-like feel. It is what it is.
We sat at the bar and ordered the California Common, which as described as caramel malty. Before the beer arrived I commented to Tara that CC was not caramel malty. Guess what? It was. This was not the CC I have drank in years past. Anyway. We also order the onion rings, which were as tasty as ever. After the beer was consumed, the food ate, and the bill was paid we left.
Service was attentive and friendly.
Standard lineup of draft beer: the core beers (Third Stone, Dark Side, etc ) plus a seasonal and the crappy stout. I saw plenty of BMC hidden in the cooler.
I think Lazlos can survive in Fremont because the food is very good. I dont know if the market will support the beer though. It is great to see Lazlos/Empyrean spread the word of good beer. Im guessing Ill stop again on my way to or from Gottberg. You should do the same.

Brand new Lazlo's location opened on the July 4th weekend of this year. Fremont is my old stomping grounds and an odd setting for a brewpub/bar devoted to in house quality beers. The void of busch light will undoubtably drive some away...but so be it. A nice location on the East side of town...the area of expansion for the last 20 years. When you drive up everything looks very trendy and new (obvious). But inside things are even kind of state of the art. A touch screen seating chart for the hostes is one thing I noticed. there is a large foyer designed to accomodate a wait. The bar is off to your right as you walk in and almost secluded from the rest of the resturant. About 20-25 stools line the bar in a straight run north and south there is a wide walkway and booths lining the west wall. Ample room to eat and enjoy a few pints if you are not looking to be formally seated. The taps consisted of the 6 normal Empyrean releases plus two seasonals, supernova and another I did not sample. The food is decent as always but noted as a bit pricey. If we are in Lincoln or Omaha it is set as reasonable. But I have talked to probably ten people now who have visited the Lazlo's in Fre-Town and they all comment on the prices being a little high....bear in mind the only other places in town to rival this are Applebee's and the Keno Club...The food is decent but just that decent nothing great but definately not bad. If we are dining in Fremont this will be my choice. If you are in Fremont for whatever reason stop in and check it out.
