I dropped in at Philippe's this afternoon, while in Lafayette on a work trip. The store has a pretty contemporary feel and everything is arranged nicely on nice fixtures (no tacky displays that I saw). The wine and bourbon selections appeared to be pretty high quality...as were the offerings in the beer section. As noted in prior reviews, there is a decent sized selection of imports here...plenty of LA local stuff too. I was very pleased to see that they had some Anchorage Brewing beers. I bought a Galaxy and something sessionable for the evening.
Service was great...had a brief conversation with the only employee there (possibly the owner) about some differences in GA and LA laws. He was knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with. Overall Philippe's is worth a stop if you are in Lafayette and need your craft beer fix. I'll certainly stop in the next time I'm in town.

I just noticed this place a few weeks ago. It's kind of tucked away with some other stores/restaurants. This is a pretty big place, compared to Marcello's, but it's mostly wine. They have a pretty good selection of beer, mostly on shelves, not in coolers. There is a nice selection of singles. Also, there are signs listing the top 10 beers of their club members and of their employees, which is nice to see. And I was told by one employee(maybe owner) that they have a free beer tasting every Friday from 5-7.
Even though I was one of two or three customers, it was very nice to see this kind of service. He showed me around the beers, explained what was new, what he recommended, very nice guy. Good experience, I will be shopping there often.

This is the best place to get the high end crafts in Lafayette. There are not huge selves and endless rows of beer like in many other places. Just a few very well organized shelves. Most of the bottles are singles with a few four packs and sixers. The beers also get rotated out regularly, which makes for excellent quality. The majority being imports. Highlights for me were Skullpliter, several Brasserie Dieu Du Ciel, Black Albert, and all the Ola Dubh's (among many others). Overall a great selection. Though not much in the way of easy drinking session micros. Which is the only downfall for the store.
The service was excellent. The full time guys really know their stuff, and are regulars on BA and RB to boot. They were very helpful, and enthusiastic. The prices are very reasonable considering the high end beers they have. The Ola Dubh 30 was only $12. Which seems high for an 11.2 oz beer, but consider that it can be as much as $20 in other stores in LA and elsewhere.
Overall, this is a must for seeking out the hard to get beers. Though I would still have to go to Marcello's for a better selection of quality micro sixers. With these two stores in town, all of me beer needs are met.

This place is more of a wine store than a beer store, but they carry just about all of the good beer that the local distributors will carry. They don't stock many of each beer. For the high-end imports, they have singles separated on the shelves and have sixers of domestic craft brews, but they don't waste hardly any space on BMC.
The staff is friendly and helpful and tend to know about real beer. They also offer a "beer club" service. For $25/month (I think) you get 6 beers that they select. You can prepay for a few months or a year, or pay when you pick up your package. The nice part about this is, when seeing another beer geek in the store, you've both been sampling the same brews.
All in all, a great store. Marcello's is the only other store in Lafayette with a selection like this, but they are on the other side of town.

By far my favorite beer store in Lafayette. The full time staff are very beer knowledgeable. They make an effort to get the very best of whats available to them via their distributors. They really only have 1 competitor in town and often times they have a much better selection of high end imports. As far as domestic craft brews, they have a decent selection, but Louisiana is kind of off most craft breweries radar.
They order small quantities in an effort to keep the freshest beer on the shelves. They will take special orders and are generally very eager to try and meet their customers wants. I don't even think the sell any BMC aside from Blue Moon, Amberbock and American Ale, maybe.
Decent selection of whiskeys and scotches and more wine then I'd ever be able to try.
EDIT: June 2010
I retract my original statement about Louisiana being off most craft breweries radar's because in the last year and a half things have gotten substantially better.
