Big thanks to rudzud for sharing.
Bottle 184/240, '12
Darker colored creamy 1/4 finger head, pitch black thick strains the glass kinda beer.
Nose is potent, rum and booze at first, the rum brings a fruity rum aroma, nice vanilla like barrel, figs raisin and dried stone fruit, light mineral like aroma, little roast and dark black malt, faint caramel and choc.
Taste starts rich, melting dark and expensive chocolate, and lots of vanilla, nice dark choc and some bitterness, light barrel like and a nice light rim fruity flavor. Some slightly metallic mineral flavors come through and combine with the rum barrel fruit to almost make it seem infected but I don't think it is. Some warming booze, a fruity booze quality from the rum barrel, and booze is semi subtle. A nice chocolate covered fruit taste too. Finish is sweet and fruity, more dark malts and vanilla.
Mouth is med to fuller bodied, lighter but decent carb, light warming booze.
Overall really interesting, nice dark malts that bring dark flavors and sweetness without the burnt, nice fruits from the rum. Booze is hidden well, pretty tasty beer and well done.

Shared with JLindros. Bottle 184/240, '12 batch.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a deep dark black hue with a quarter inch head that fades to leave a thin halo and wisps. Wonderful.
S - Aromas just knock me back. Wonderful rum, vanilla beans, dark chocolate, light booze. Just smells great
T - Taste is a bit confusing. I really don't get the sour notes others talk about. I think infact that's the roasted malts mixing with the fruity rum barrels. Its a nice balance, with tasty vanilla notes. Good barrel as well, its not "knock your socks off "kuk rum but its there.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, smooth and good.
O - Overall a darn good be but not earth shattering. Its a nice blend and mixing. Glad to try.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2012 bottle #101/240. Reviewed from notes.
Appearance - Black and transparent at the edges. No head. Looks flat.
Smell - Rum, chocolate, and fudge. Tons of vanilla. Nice.
Taste - Lots of vanilla with a nice rum barrel. Chocolate and a consistent lactic sourness. Very odd. Really ruins what was potentially a good beer.
Mouthfeel - Sour. Medium heavy. The sourness kills. Intentional?
Overall - Really disappointing. I wanted to enjoy this. The bottle wasn't that old when we consumed it. Just soured. What's strange is that it's such a clean sourness. Almost makes me wonder if Jackie O's did it on purpose, although I can't fathom why.

This bottle was from 2012 release. The beer was lightly chilled and served in a snifter.
A- The body of the beer is black and oily looking with a ruby opaqueness to light. The head was a thin burn tan coloration. Whisp of lacing mark this beers passage from my glass.
S- Lightly roasted malt enters into the land of cocoa, far fainter vanilla aroma than I expected, sweet molassis and caramel notes, rum notes creep out, along with the oak, earthy notes creep around, very slight lactic notes.
T- The beer is dominated a lactic rum combination. Lightly roasted notes, a bit of cocoa, molassis sweetness. I am so let down!
M- The body of the beer is thin and boozey. The carbonation is low and wouldnt be an issue if the beer was a bit more robust.
O- I simply cannot approve or reccomend this beer. Jackie O's brews some good and on occasion great beers. I love alot of the beers I have tried at Jackie O's brewpub. Many times I find something gets lost in translation from the tap to the bottle. Hey guys a bit more QA is in order.

A- Pours pitch black color with a nice tan head. Head becomes a thin layer of bubbles and leaves a bit of spotty lacing at best.
S- Light vanilla, sweetness and a touch of spice. Roasted malts, chocolate and stale coffee pop up. Something odd smelling to this one too a musty wood smell and a bit of funkiness.
T- A bit sweeter than I'd like. Rum adds some spice and quite a bit of an oddness to this brew. Malts are pretty light and subdued. Oh and there it is again....the odd funky taste I get when I drink a Jackie O's brew.
M- Full in body and low in carbonation.
O- I'm not sure if its the funkiness or the rum which I don't like, wait I know its the funkiness that goes with just about every one of their beers. Their on the right track just got to eliminate this funk.

Thanks for sharing Josh
Poured a deep oil black.
The aroma is vanilla forward with some licorice and boozy rum.
The taste is run dominated from the beginning but completely saturated by half way through the sip. Very faint vanilla up front.
The mouth feel is extremely light with a touch of carbonation. Terrible mouthfeel and the finish is a cOmbination of burning and watery disappointment.
This beer was very disappointing. Watery, boozy (not in a good way) and hot. A combination of failures without a doubt.

A big thanks goes out to a whole bunch of guys who helped me put together a six bottle set of these Dark Apparitions. This one came courtesy of Stakem. Cheers!
From a bomber into a snifter
Vintage: 2011
Bottle 160 of 225
APPEARANCE: Pours out thicker black and yields a small, medium thick, light mocha colored head with good retention. Better and thicker pour than the base beer, with a more impressive head. Black opaque body with no carbonation evident. Head fades to a slight wisp and ring that remain the whole way and leave some nice dots of lacing down the glass. This variant looks pretty solid really.
SMELL: Rum botes and lots of dark, pure chocolate. Fudge brownies, cocoa powder, vanilla and coconut as well. Distinct oak notes from the barrels. The vanilla aspects are really nice and well integrated here. Bolder aromas and quite wonderful.
TASTE: Not quite as impressive as the nose, but still quite good. Rum, oak and some dark chocolate up front. Vanilla dn coconut accompany some roasted flavors through the middle into a bold finish. Rum, oak, vanilla and roasted chocolate linger nicely on the palate. Again, the vanilla component is really nice here, thought the flavors aren't quite as forthcoming as the aromas were. Still very tasty, however.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate with just enough weight to be alright, goes down smooth and finishes slightly sticky on the palate. The same as the base beer but not quite as sticky.
OVERALL: This one was my favorite of the bunch. The vanilla aspects were done really well in this beer. A touch more in the flavor and a thicker, heavier palate would help bring this beer to the next level I think. Still, as it is now, it's a very aromatic and enjoyable beer that I would gladly have again. Thanks again for this one Stakem. Good stuff.
