warning: very sick black Pacific coffee colored head.

the nose is sick what the hell has the molasses Sunapee quality touch of dark malt.

the flavors and very heavy face picchocolate and burn black milds along with a half heavy smoke and some light rum flavors there's just a touch of 19 s with a light bit over the hops.

the mouth feels tremendously therapy very sick long lasting oily quality.

I highly recommend this beer.

Sampled on 4/10/2013. Thanks to Koelshtrinker for sharing. Bottle #58 of 216. Pours a mahogany hue with no head, just a cluster of bubbles along one side of the glass. Nose expresses sweet malt, cocoa, ethanol, vanilla and a hint of the rum barrel. Taste follows nose, but also a little watery with some vinous notes. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body with an even carbonation and some residual heat. Overall, an excellent beer - could use more body; however, the flavor and nose really make up for this aspect.

From 12/31/12 notes. Big thanks to jslot38 for sharing this one; I liked the base beer a lot so was excited to have this one. 22 oz. bottle into a taster glass.

a - Pours a deep brown color, almost black, with one inch of tan head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of sweet chocolate, rum, roasted malts, vanilla, coffee, toasted malts, and burnt malts. Nose is very interesting...a nice mix of chocolate, rum, and vanilla. I like it quite a bit.

t - Tastes of cocoa, sweet chocolate, roasted malts, rum, alcohol, coffee, cream, burnt malts. Nice, though a little more alcohol here and not blended quite as well as the nose.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink overall.

o - Overall a pretty good stout. I think the base beer is a really solid, good American stout, and think this is a little bit of an improvement on it. Rum usually isn't my favorite barrel to see beers in but it worked well here; the nose is really nice and complex. Would love to try the other variations and have this one again.

Poured from the bottle into a hunahpu's snifter. Bottle 140 of 216.

Appearance: Beer pours a black color with just a touch of tan head that goes away completely.

Smell: very sweet with lots of roasted malt and dark fruit. The rum plays a large roll in the smell. Burns the nostrils quite a bit.

Taste: Lots of roasted malt sweetness and a rum flavor that is accompanied by a pretty intense burn. Mild vanilla with lots of dark fruit. A bit oaky. The nuts are stuck in the background. The finish is warm and sweet.

Mouthfeel: The body is quite thick and could use more carbonation. The finish is very dry.

Overall: the taste is quite nice even if the beer is a bit hot. I would have liked a little more carbonation. Good overall.

Bottle shared thanks to Justin, thanks for the taste!

The beer pours a nice color that you'd hope for in a stout, very dark brown highlights and a totally black core color. Decent Ning of brown head and some lacing.

The smell is very nice and quite complex. The rum really melts in beautifully to the sweet cocoa and roasted malt stout base. It really smells like a decadent fudge based dessert, it's great.

The taste really follows suit, it opens up pretty sweet and chocolatey and ends with a nice mix of the spirit and a ton of coffee roast. It's a fine beer, maybe a bit on the sweet side up front but still quite tasty.

The feel is ok, it is a bit light for a big stout like this and has a bit of burn, which is ok, but seems a little astringent on the palate for me.

Overall a very good beer, great for a tasting, probably wouldn't be great to drink a lot of.

Decided to play russian roulette with my 1 and only bottle of the 2011 batch 138/206

Pours jet black with almost no head

smells like a really nice pure cane rum and powdered hot choclate mix

taste starts as a nice malty sweet stout that moves onto a smooth rum taste and finishes with dry cacao(thanks tosh for suggesting i taste cacao)

mouthfeel is normal for an imperial stout very light carbonation

overall really glad i tried this and super glad it wasn't infected...another very good jackie o's offering

Shared tonight with friends
Pours an inky black color with a smallish tan head that dissipates as soon as it musters. Smells of alcohol, oak, rum, dark sugar, chocolate, roasted coffee, and oily nuts. It really a unique aroma, at times I get a creme brulee thing going on then it seems like burnt caramel or roasted nuts. It's very complex. The flavor follows the aroma with a bit more alcohol heat than the the aroma promised. Nutty rum and chocolate flavor with a hint of stout and coffee. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet boozy mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this beer, but a bit less alcohol burn would have sent this to the stratosphere for me.
