I wanted to see what this was like from a bottle, not insanely tired, and with a clean palate while the on-tap version was still fresh in my mind.
Poured into a tulip. Bottle #17 of 216, 2011 vintage.
3.5 A: Unfortunately, the appearance from the bottle isn't any better than the tap. Hazed orange brownish color. One finger of white head quickly fell and left just a touch of non-uniform lacing.
4.0 S: Strangely seems a bit mellower than the on-tap version. Lots of oak and orange. Just a touch of citrusy hops. Not quite as funky, but what is there is horse blanket and dank wood barnyard. No astringency.
4.0 T: The taste follows suite. Mellower than on-tap. Big hits of orange. Oak to a lesser extent. Light to moderate bitterness. Musty basement and sweat sock funk. Low astringency.
3.5 M: Medium body. Carbonation is a bit lower than the tap version. Could be creamier, but very smooth.
4.0 D: Verdict: The two versions are detectably different, but equal in terms of quality. The bottle version seems to be mellower and smoother, while the on-tap version is more in your face and unrefined. Either way, a very enjoyable beer.

04/02/11- Had this one on-tap at Jackie O's "one funky afternoon."
A: Good amber with a thin white collar.
S: Super brett. funk! faint tangerine, orange cream soda, rustic wheat. Interesting.
T: Really brett.! especially on the dry bitter apple core finish, very citric and tangerine, wheat lingers in the finish, and there is some honey sweetness at the start.
M: Thinner and foamy.
O: This might have been my least favorite at the release. The brett. is a huge standout. It warms up to you, but is never quite as smooth as you'd like.

This beer is a golden orange, with a white head. The nose is wonderful; I get some oak and orange, with a bit of Brett funk. Ok the taste is a light vanilla, with a dusting of oak, with a bit a bitter orange at the end. The beer is smooth and crisp.
Good brew, and will get better with a few years on it.

Pours a very pretty orwngish gold with a bit of white head. Vry well carbonated and pretty. Smells strongly of orange rinds and oak. Exactly what I expected. The nose is great. Tastes oaky with a nice bitter arrange, the orange is maybe a bit too bitter but still tasty. Solid mouthfeel and overall a very tasty brew

A-hazy orange with white lacing around the edges.
S-orange peel and a little bit of sour
T-alot lot like it smells. the orange really came through more than I expected
m-medium body and smooth
o-nice beer. Would love to see what the sourness does with age.

Cheers to Sean for busting this out.
A - Hazy gold color with an off-white head. Little bit of lace left throughout the consumption.
S - This is a very cool smelling beer, orange seems like a difficult thing to do, but this one captures the essence of oranges and manages to be a beer at the same time. Oak comes through, and adds a touch of vanilla as well.
T - Essence of orange, very well done, but not overdone. Somehow this is an orange beer, it's not overly citrusy or juicy, but it's a real orange taste somehow keeping the malt qualities of a beer. Vanilla and oak add a lot of depth to this one. Great tasting beer.
M - Lighter, good carbonation adds a nice refreshing touch.
D - Pretty easy to drink, the sweetness and orange taste will keep it from being sessionable, but this is an easy 9% drinker. Props to Brad for making this work.

22oz bottle, thank you Brad, you be da man!
A - Pours golden yellow, off-white head, some bubbles on top/thin cap, some spotty lacing along the sides.
S - Oranges, slight tart, mostly funk, and rounded up with some oak.
T - Oranges, a nice funky brett characteristic, oak, slight malty sweetness.
M - Light, good carbonation, smooth and crisp.
D - We drank this one right after Town Hall Mango Mama, for our orange kick of the night, and this one was FAR superior in every way. I really enjoyed this one and hope Brad will hook me up with some more in the future (are you reading this, Brad?)!

22oz bottle courtesy of Beace, poured into my Narke tulip...Pours a light orange with a light white tan head...The aroma is awesome, complex with great balance; zesty oranges, brett and oak. The three meld together perfectly in a way that perfectly compliment each other...The taste loses a lot of the orange, slightly disappointing, most the orange is gone and it leaves just a great oaky brett.
Try this if you can, way to hook it up Brad.

Bottle shared by Grant - much obliged!
Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange color with a half-finger slightly off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.
Smells of sweet and light malts with solid amounts of earthy oak aromas. Also present and more prevalent as the beer warms are hints of orange rinds.
Tastes very similar to how it smells. Light malt flavors kick things off and are quickly joined by mildly tart indistinct fruit flavors with good amounts of oak. Midway through the sip the fruit flavors turn more toward light citrus - orange mostly with hints of grapefruit - and carry through to a mildly bitter ending.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.
Overall this was an interesting beer that didn't go overboard on either the orange or the oak. Well worth a shot if you can get your hands on one.

Presentation: Poured from a brown bomber into a tulip. I have a few of these bottles left over from the release party and figured now is as good a time as any to check them out. Bottle 3/156, bottled 11/28/09.
Appearance: Pours with half a finger of very light, nearly white head. This settles very quickly to a thin ring around the glass and a few islands of foam here and there. The beer itself is brilliant amber with just the slightest chill haze.
Smell: Tart cherry sweetness upfront with definite sourness funk in the finish. I think I get a hint of orange, but it may very be bias based on knowing how the beer was made.
Taste: Tart upfront with distinct undertones of the oak; vanilla and an earthy flavor. Mild bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel: Average carbonation level. Body is very good.
Drinkability: A not-overly-tart sour that I could handle several of. Another hit from Jackie O's extensive line of brews.

Thanks to AmericanBrew for sharing this bottle.
Bottle 31 of 156. This has to be the best American Pale Wheat Ale I have ever tried. The beer pours an orange-gold color with a white head. The aroma is slightly tart with some citrus and yeast notes. The flavor is a great mix of orange, oak and brett and overall it is slightly tart citrus and a little bit funky. There is some honey in the taste as well. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Awesome beer.

Bottle #20/156 consumed on 12/20/2009 in a stemmed snifter. The beer pours transparent light golden with a thick white head. I estimate one inch. Retention and lacing are both decent.
The nose is of moderately sweet Valencia oranges. Hops impart earthy and citrus notes. Do I detect a hint of oak? Light wheat notes are evident beneath the aforementioned characteristics. The oranges are most unique and notable.
The flavor is moderately bitter, with prominent Valencia oranges, and bitter grapefruit. The beer seems slightly sweet at times. A slightly interesting dynamic is created between sweet and bitter, with bitter oranges winning out in the finish. Overall, the hops seemed to clash with the slightly sweet oranges. The harmony I hoped for with each sip was never attained.
The mouthfeel is thin and watery. I've liked all the Jackie O's beers that I've tried, but I can't say I like this. It's rather insipid and I can' imagine the desired results were achieved.

22 oz bomber from bottle sale poured into wine glass. Decanted the remainder in same pour.
A- A clear pale to deep gold, with a small amount of head. No noticable carbonation. Decent retention with some lacing.
S- Oak, alcohol, background malt, orange peel. Slightly bitter aroma with a touch of sweetness.
T- A little flat on the way in, but then wow... the bitterness blends right into the orange peel and finishes with a great bitter-oak flavor. Very refreshing, so unique.
M- Feels like it foams up as you swallow. A wierd sensation that really plays well with the oak. Very well suited for the style(?).
D- Pretty high alcohol, but the refreshing character of this beer make it dangerously drinkable.
A well constructed, innovative beer that I really love.

Poured into a tulip glass. Served a little too cold. Orange Oak is a India Pale Wheat Ale aged in oak barrels along with cut up valencia oranges.
A- Pours a dark, apricot color. Hazy with some lacing. Had a fingers width of soapy head.
S- Oranges definitely noticeable. Offers a layer of complexity to the wheat aroma of this beer. Also picking up some oak in the background.
T- Once this beer warmed up, it really became quite delicious. Orange juices and zest prickle the palate for a lively sensation. The oak barrel notes came in perfectly midway through. The beer finished with an slightly sweet, orange wheat flavor.
M- Light bodied. Really liked the consistency of this beer. My only complaint was that it may have been too carbonated. The prickling feeling I noticed in the taste almost gave the sensation of pop rocks when I came in for a sip every now and then.
D- Extremely drinkable. For simple flavors, it still had a complexity that was unique, but not overbearing on the palate. The 9% abv was not noticeable at all.
Overall, a great twist on what would otherwise be a normal session-like beer. Really was digging this one, especially when it warmed up.
