Pour a deep amber, almost black color with a small amount of pale white head.

The scent is of cocoa, bready malt, and roasted grains.

The taste is of roasted chocolate malt, toasted bread, and toated grains.

Light body, very creamy and smooth, very low carbonation.

This was an ok beer, even though there was a variety of flavor I thought it was a bit too light.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Dark-brown body with hints of amber when put in front of light. 1 finger head with fast retention.
Strong hints of malts, caramel, cinnamon, brown sugar, and toffee. Taste follows closely behind with a rather smooth backbone that disappears into a chocolately finish. Fair amount of biterness, but balanced by the sweet flavours that the caramel and brown sugar provide.
A bit over carbonated but still excellent.

Im glad I picked this up in a mix and match 6 pack. Very interesting and tasty. Well balanced and easy to sip on. Awesome.

Part of the shiner family reunion six pack

Pours a dark brown, almost pumpernickle color. Clear but still hard to see through. Decent offwhite heaf.

Aroma is subtle and inoffensive.

Flavor is rich and toasty. A little bit of hop and rye spicyness. I would describe this beer as a dry brown lager with some rye notes in the background.

Excellent mouthfeel. Silky smooth with medium body.

The beer pours a golden-brown color with a white head. The aroma is full of rye and a little bit of toffee malt -- about what I expected. The flavor is more of the same. I get a lot of rye and some toffee and bread from the malt, as well as a hint of orange citrus. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Decent, but definitely nothing to seek out.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Copper in color, with a big head of bone-white foam.
Aroma-Toasted malt, faint spiciness
Taste-Subtle milk chocolate and caramel,some rye spiciness leading to a rather dry finish. Interesting flavor makes you want to take another sip. Would be a nice match for a plate of tacos.

Chilled 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint tulip. Best-by date on bottle 6.19.12.

Look- Clear ruby brown, the hue strongly reminds me of dark cream soda or double-brewed iced tea. Four fingers of toasted marshmallow-colored head that settles fairly quickly, leaving sticky rings of splotchy lace.

Smell- Strong bready aroma, milk chocolate, and a faint acidic twang. Swirling brings out a stronger earthy/rye character and maybe a hint of alcohol, but it's pretty faint. As it warms, it comes off as overly sweet and toffee-like.

Taste- Tastes like it smells; caramel malt, crusty toast, burnt green twigs. Finish is somewhat bitter, unexpected in a lager. Tastes like a dark version of Spoetzl Kosmos Reserve with a bit of spice. Pretty clean finish, mild lingering earthy/herbal taste.

Mouthfeel- Crisp carb comes out on the sip, medium to full body for a lager. Lightly dry finish. Goes down easy, but I'd say it falls into the "too substantial to drink more than a pint or two" category.

Overall- Decent offering from this brewery, but it's a bit too middle-of-the road for my tastes; neither big nor particularly session-able. If it was available in six packs, I might pick it up once in a while, and I don't regret that there's another in the fridge.

A nice copper brown color with a thin light beige head quickly yielding to a slight ring.

Fragrances were grainy, sweet, barley.

Lighter bodied, toasted oak, wheat, touch of toffee.

Short finish that has just a bit of hops at the end. Clean, simple, drinkable. Nothing special but certainly an easy drinker. Lacking complexity and very straightforward....great for a sunny cool spring day like today.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint.

A: Medium brown. Thick, foamy head. Disintegrates fairly slowly leaving some persistent residue. A little less lacing as you drink it down.

S: Baked bread with a slightly pungent tone of rye.

T: Pretty standard lager stuff here. A little malt, really cardboard-y, just slightly more pungent. Very light flavor of caramel.

M: Light body, seems a little 'thin'. Lightly bitter finish.

D: Goes down easy, not much resistance.

Atmosphere is decent. Substantial head, and a fair amount of lacing. Nose is lite baked bread malt. Flavor is light and washed-out blend of pungent malt with a hefty infusion of wood. Overall, this is a decent quaff.

Poured a 12oz bottle from a Shiner Family Reunion 6er. Part of the Brewer's Pride Series.

A: Dark reddish brown with fluffy white head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing.

S: Rye grain up front, Czech Saaz hops in the background. Slight sweetness.

T: The spiciness and slight (very slight) sourness come through from the rye. Sweet caramel malt and hops balance out the rest.

M: A bit thin-bodied, but great for a crisp, clean easy-to-drink lager.

O: Solid rye lager from Shiner. Really wish they made 6ers of their Brewer's Pride Series. These aren't "big" beers, but definitely more flavorful than their regular lineup. Worth a try, especially since the classic Shiner "metallic" taste is absent.

A- Bottle to mug, reddish brown color, light tan head that doesn't stay, leaves some lacing.

S- Fruit, sweet

T- Little bitter, metallic, spice

M- Medium bodied, goes down smooth

O- Not a bad beer, something different that I hadn't tried before. Got this in a reunion sixer, review from my notes. I would drink it again.

Pours a nice reddish brown with a beautiful off-white head. I caught the aroma of the roasted malts. The beer is very drinkable with taste of the rye spiciness being obvious in the finish. It had a nice medium mouthfeel and it wasn't overcarbonated. I would definitely drink this one again, but I don't see myself buying another family reunion pack any time soon.

Beer pours relatively smooth, with a hint of foam and lace that sticks around. The aroma is of spice and earthy wooden barrels. The beer is a typical lager color and has a slight taste of the spice that you smell upon opening. HInts of barley are subtle and not overpowering. Slightly surprised by this beer, as Spoetzl, especially the Shiner line are up and comers.

Pours a deep, but transparent mahogany with an off-white head. Smell is of roasted malt and pale ale style hops.
The thing that describes this beer to me is robust. It's dry and roasted and delicious. The hops are pretty standard and not interesting and most importantly, they don't get in the way of the dry roasted malt. I can taste the rye, mostly on the finish. This is a pretty delicious beer for Shiner. I'd say it's up there with their black lager. Not quite as good, though.

A: This pours a very nice dark copper with a pretty thin white head that quickly fades.

S: There is a bit caramel sweetness and a strong sense of malt. There is also a tiny bit of dark fruit that lingers.

T: There really is a lot of malt. As the beer lingers I get a lot of the same tastes as unhopped wort. Very sweet.

M: Shiner doesn't know how to make a smooth beer at all. There is just so much carbonation.

O: This is a pretty average beer. It has some good qualities, but also a lot of flaws. This beer just isn't for me

Pours a clear coppery/brown with a 1 finger slightly off-white head that sticks around. Aroma is fairly clean with a bit of spicy/earthy hop aroma, slight biscuit and rustic malt aroma. Taste is crisp toasty malt with a firm but not overpowering bitterness, fairly clean and crisp on the finish. Carbonation is moderate which is nice, this beer is fairly dry so anymore carbonation would come off as astringent.

Overall one of the better offerings from shiner, but ubfortunately that doesn't say too much. Not really worth buying the mix pack for.

We just bought the Shiner Reunion 12-pack so we could try the new beer in the Brewer's Pride Series. It has a nice dark appearance and smells sweet, and chocolate-y, with a hint of spice. Overall It's a good tasting beer; it has a sweetness from the Rye but it's not over powering. I think it deserves everyone to give it a try, but just wait until they start putting it in the 6-packs!

From the Shiner Family Tradition 12-pack. I split it with my brother-in-law on a recent trip to Texas.

I drank this one from the bottle while watching football. Some caramel, toffee, and chocolate can be smelled from the top of the bottle. The flavor is a balance of sweet and mildly spicy. The chocolate and caramel are strong and sweet up front followed by a smooth, mild spicy rye in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation.

For a Shiner beer this one is more complex, rich, and balanced than I have come to expect. The chocolate rye malt really is a great ingredient here. I wouldn’t mind having more of these, but I wouldn’t buy the family tradition 6- or 12-pack to get to it.
