clear golden tan in color. 1/4" of white foam subsides rather quickly and is gone for good. big malty aroma that protrays a complex fruitiness. well carbonated, quite refreshing while still remaining somewhat full and chewy. sweet passionfruit flavors and a touch of graininess. signature noble german hop flavor at the end keeps this beer in balance. tasty and quite drinkable. i don't see this around too much, but i would grab one when i could. good stuff.

16 ounce pint - $5.50 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Served up a clear, deep yellow-hued body with a medium-sized, white head that soon settles into a thin ring.

Smell: A whiff of pilsner malt, some soft, sweet-accented breadiness, a thin sliver of honey, and spice and dried leaves in the background.

Taste: An initially twangy taste of faintly grainy pils malt. Lightly sweet, hinting barely at mild honey. German noble hops provide touches of florals, spice, and a slight leafy quality. Modestly bitter. Drying on the back end, with a final pop of malt on the finish, then a lingering mingling of graininess and bitterness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: A decent, suitable maibock.

A: Golden in color with a slight white head that doesn't last too long.

S: At first, the beer is pretty malty and a little bready. As it warms though, it smells like grape bubblicious.

T: Very light with a slight malty breadiness. As it warms it tastes like grape bubblicious as well. Kind of strange.

Served on-tap in my 1 liter Das Boot glass at East Side Restaurant in New Britain, Conn.

A: Slightly hazy, golden yellow color with a thin, creamy head of frothy, white foam. Carbonation was ample and there was a definite chilled haze look to the brew.

S: Grassy, herbal hops with a very floral, slightly citrus nose as well. There are malts and a whiff of alcohol in the aroma also, which has a bit of a spicy, fruity scent with the grains.

T: Smooth, bittersweet and medium roasted grain at first, with a very citrus and floral taste. The herbal hop snappiness comes around mid-palate, washing over with fruity, citrus and very floral flavors, like rose hips. The finish is bold, spicy and a little sticky sweet, but overall, the brew is well balanced, refreshing and has only a slight tinge of alcohol to it.

M: Full-bodied and smooth with only a bit of alcohol astringency. Still, very quaffable helles bock with lots of bold malt characteristics.

D: A good, spicy, fruity and floral brew with the fine drinkability of a German pilsener or lager but the full-bodied malt backbone of a study bock beer. The 6.5% ABV would sneak up on you after a while, but the combination of malt bittersweetness, floral roastiness and snappy, herbal hop finish are a very drinkable combination.

On tap at Gourmet Haus Staudt. Pale gold with a big foamy white head. Very mild aroma, some biscuit-like malt and lightly sulfurous lager yeast. As it warms I pick out more malty/honey sweetness. It's light and clean on the palate, but decidedly more malty than Spaten's helles lager. There's little in the way of bitterness, It finishes clean and semi-dry, a bit bland but not bad.

On tap at Brauhaus Schmitz...
Appears a transparent golden orange with a small white cap that slowly fades into a gentle cap. Spotty bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of sourdough bread, honey, flowers, juicy fruit gum, and mild spice.
Taste mimics the aromas. Ahhh, German beers, how I love thee. Malt and signature yeast really make these kind of beers unique and delicious in their on way.
Mouthfeel is full of malt, medium bodied, slightly spritzy, sweet up front leading to a mildly sour but addictive aftertaste.

Poured a pale, golden-copper; clarity was translucent. Head was one inch, dense, rocky and white in color. Nose was very light - something of a subtle wheat character and a hint of light fruit. Taste follows nose - wheat malt dominates, but the fruit is definitely more present and some light toffee notes are revealed as well. Mouthfeel is fairly light; however there is some consistency here, maybe better described as a slickness, an even, pleasant carbonation and a semi-dry finish. This is an exceptional Maibock - perhaps the best I've had. I found this beer to be tasty without being cloyingly sweet and also somewhat refreshing. Well worth your time if you get the opportunity to try this one.

From 6/4/10 notes. Had on tap at the Saloon in DC.

a - Pours a nice golden color with one finger of white head with great rention and light carbonation. Looks amazing.

s - Smells of wheat and bready malts; a little weak. As it warmed up I also some ctirus fruit which was enjoyable.

t - Taste of bready malts, caramel and fruity malts, and hints of citrus hops.

m - Medium body and low carbonation.

d - A good maibock. Lots of malts here, would definitely try again.
