P- Thanks to Ray in Pittsburgh

A-a light lemongrass color with a 2 finger fluffy head that eaves a splotchy lacing on the pint glass. Carbonation bubbles rise furiously to the top.

S- banana dominates the nose with some peppery spice to complement it.

T- banana and the pepper spice come out in the tongue more. Thats pretty much it.

M- A creamy banana with carbonation that rounds it out.

O-Not a bad hefe..i may not be the best judge because im not a big hefe fan. But well done. I like the banana in this one.

Ah, a break from all the DIPA's and RIS's.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, and immediately was impressed by a light, fluffy two fingers of head with decent retention. Not much lacing, but that's whatever. The body is a nice cloudy, pale orange yellow.

Smell is light, a bit sweet. Banana, cloves, and a touch of citrus.

The taste is quite nice. Definitely get the banana and clove presence. A nice, sour yeastiness compliments a nice, dry finish. Not too sweet, and rather refreshing. It's not in your face at all, and actually, it's quite nice.

A solid example of the style.

I've had this a few times on tap in in the bottle over the years and now I'm sitting down to review. Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.

A - A moderate pour yields a 2 finger head that dissipates slowly into a thin disc. Color is orange into amber. I remember it being more yellow than this. It is cloudy but evenly so. No floaties.

S - Smells like a wheat beer. A lot of fruity yeast smell.

T - Complex flavor. Citrus peel and bananas. Slightly metallic and sour aftertaste but that's evident in most hefeweizens.

M - Light bodied with average carbonation. Creamy feeling in the mouth.

O - A solid hefeweizen that is a good comparison for others of the style. It is consistent and complex. Overall a very refreshing beer.

This brew has always had memories for me and so if my review is high that is probably mostly memories. Reviewed February 3, 2012. Poured a 12 oz bottle into a Weizen glass.

A: This poured a nice cloudy Sunglow. This was one of my first pours into my shorter Weizen glass and because of that the pour was over 3+ fingered. The head lasted all the way till the end.

S: A nice strong fruity banana. A nice sour yeast is nicely present and this is what dominates this brew.

T: Sour yeast, banana, and coriander.

M: This is easily one of the smoothest drink I have ever had. The alcohol taste isn't even there. this feels like a summer drink no questions asked.

O: This is just a nice easy drinker that I think those that don't know beer would even enjoy.

Poured into my pint glass a very dull yellow with a nice big fluffy head.

Smells fruity with undertones of yeast and malts.

Tastes of banana and orange peel but was expecting a little bit more due to the smell.

The right level of carbonation, light and smooth.

A very good wheat beer, easy to drink. Would enjoy a few of these during the summer.

.5 L brown bottle poured into a pint glass tumbler.

A: Beautiful cloudy, tawny in colour, quite a lot of fizzy head, even with a slow, deliberate pour. Dissipates moderately quickly, leaving no lacing.

S: Mild spice with the sort of chalky/powdery scent with a mild sweetness too.

T: Upfront sweetness, but not distinctly fruity or malty, just sweet, but a mild sour presence as well.

M: Initially there was a thick, syrupy goodness, but that was quickly replaced by a bit of tangy fizziness. Underlying all is that chalky, almost powdery presence.

O: I love wheat beers, and here's another reason why!

Great Heffa!!
A - dark brown, nice foamy head
S - "yeasty", breadlike, very pleasant aroma
T - Awesome! You can tell the German influence in the aftertaste, but is definitely not overpowering. Very pleasant
M - light carbonation, not heavy, but a creamy texture
O - one of the better Heffas I've tried. Great taste, no alcohol aftertaste. You've gotta try one!

Served chilled in a pilsner glass

A - pours a hazy dark yellow with lots of sediment. An aggressive pour leads to minimal head

S - not much here, hints of banana and clove, but really not much aroma. Maybe more will come out as it warms....

T - kind of light on the taste, sweet, malt, banana, wheat, what is there is nice, but again, maybe more will come out when it warms a bit.

M - smooth, no hint of alcohol, "crisp"

O - not bad, i just wish there was more here. Maybe I've become accustomed to the "doubles" and "imperials" i've been drinking lately, but I'm trying to keep the style in perspective. Nothing bad to say, I was just thinking there would be stronger attributes to this one.

Poured into a Weizen-glass, the cloudy light golden beer develops a great three finger white head. It dissipates fast and leaves no lacing.
The smell is of banana, tart, yeast and citrus.
Tasting the beer you will experience the refreshing feel of fruity banana, citrus and yeast. The tart finish leaves a great mouthfeel.
A very refreshing Weizen!

12oz bottle from Pick's poured into a shaker. Pours a hazy dark gold with about half a finger of white head. Light aroma of banana and clove. Taste is lightly sweet and watered down. Banana and clove, barely. Light bodied with a thin yet creamy texture. Fizzy carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, it's ok. Nothing to write home about but drinkable nonetheless.

Bottle from AJ's Fine Foods in on North Central in Phoenix. 12oz bottle into a chalice, L146116 printed on the bottle, which I believe is equivalent to May 26, 2011?

Poured a fairly hazy golden brown, with a finger of eggshell white head. Lacing is quite light and retention is only modest. Smells strongly of banana and bubblegum, with only a touch of clove. A candied note and a bit of white bread as well. Taste is qutie fizzy initially, with some banana and wheat. Sufficient spicing in the latter part of the mouthfeel and intot he finish. Fizzy cola like carbonation. A decent, albeit lighter, hefeweizen. Good flavours, but nothing that really sets this apart from the pack for me.

A: Pale straw and very hazy. Very long lasting meringue style head.

S: Fruit notes, mostly grapes and apple. Small wheat and pale malt as well as orange peel.

T: Spice and fruit are the first profiles to come through. I get banana, orange peel as well as corriander and lemon zest. Hops act only as a slight enhancer, but dont really impart any bitterness. A lot of the flavor comes from the yeast profile. Slightly bready and citrusy. Well rounded beer.

M: Light body, low level bitterness. Light to moderate carbonation.

O: Absolutely the defining beer of the german hefe style. Pale and spicy, refreshing and solid.

A: Pours a cloudy, golden-amber, with a thick & frothy head of off-white foam. The head lingers nicely, never fully disappearing and leaving a trace of thin lace on the walls.

S: Citrussy notes first. Also some white pepper and banana. A touch of fresh-cut grass.

T: The wheat-force is strong in this one. The citrussy tartness is much less than I expected from the aroma, but it's detectable. Some late spiciness, but also a phenolic bitterness.

M: More moist than crisp, but with adequate carbonation.

O: Above average, but not a standout in its class. Probably better paired with food (bratwurst & sauerkraut come to mind) than drunk alone.

Poured into pint glass from bottle, bottle date is meh... April 12, 2011, if I deciphered the code correctly, L102116U.

A: Cloudy golden color with a fluffy white 2 finger head that fell quickly. Lots of yeast sediment.

S: Lots of banana and some apple in the nose with hints of spice: clove, coriander.

T: Same as aroma but the apple is more pronounced, I suspect the hops are adding to that flavor coming through. Grainy toasted malt and clove flavors ride throughout the taste. Nice crisp finish.

M: Bright, crisp, refreshing, light bodied.

O: Very tasty, very easy to put down. Not my favorite hefeweizen, but for how readily available it is in the US, it's a winner.

Beer poured with a very frothy head and a amber-like gold appearance. Generally hazy as it settled. Aromas were fantastic: bready, citrus-fruit and cloves were wonderfully balanced. It was not too strong, but the aromas were apparent. Taste was yeasty with a generally sweet-fruit flavors. The mouthfeel was refreshing and light, but with a crisp carbonation. Overall, a really sweet, refreshing hefeweizen.

Poured from a 500mL bottle into a snifter. Bottle is dated July 2012.

A: Cloudy honey/amber color. It's got a nice, white 2 finger head. Good retention and lacing.

S: Banana, malt and cloves. The banana is incredibly pronounced.

T: Immediately there is lots of fruity sweetness. It gives way to some spices, cloves and coriander. There's a bit of some malt flavors throughout.

M: Relatively big bodied thanks to wheat. Well carbonated.

A very good, classic hefeweizen.

Bottle poured into a pint glass.

This beer poured a hazy yellow/orange. The head lingered for a while and then dissipated. The aroma was mildly fruity (banana) with a baselayer of wheat. The flavor was mild banana and cloves with a nice slick feel in the mouth and tongue due to the wheat. The carbonation was a bit high and stinging. Not a bad beer at all especially considering one that is highly available in tons of places.

Those that count this as a B or less are crazy. My favorite beer for anytime is Allagash White and this beer falls just shy of that beer. If you have the opportunity to try one or the other, then you may want to try BOTH!

To be fair, I will say they have different taste, but Allagash being my 10, I will say this is my #9 wheat beer. I don't give props for wheat beer easily, but this is an excellent beer. Give it a shot.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass due to the lack of a weizen glass.

Look - light golden color, a little murky, with good carbonation and foam.

Smell - much like most Bavarian beers, higher on the malts that in the hops. I can smell a little bit of the clove aroma that the wheat gives off.

Taste - I taste much more of the wheat than I could smell. Other than that, it's still much like the typical Bavarian type of beer. More of the hops come out in the taste as well.

Mouthfeel - much on the watery side, but not as bad as an adjunct lager would be.

Overall - good tasting brew that is true to the type.

Bottle purchased from Hyvee in Council Bluffs, IA.
No obvious bottled on date.
Poured into a Schell's weizen glass.

Pours a huge head, why even bother counting the centimeters. Composed of small bubbles, very dense foam. Seems to maintain a 2cm head throughout, but as it descends initially, there's some nice lacing that's left. Body is a hazy, copper-orange color, but when held up to a light source, it's pale gold-yellow. Carbonation is steady and substantial, supporting the consistent layer of foam.

Aroma of yeast, freshly cut green apples and pears, and some faint ripe banana. I find the aroma to be good, pronounced in the beginning, but also to be fairly ephemeral and fading. Would appreciate it being more apparent throughout.

Opens with pleasant sweetness that's quickly overcome by fairly high tartness recalling cut green apples. This gradually gives way to mild renewed sweetness, ripe banana esters, coriander, clove, and bubblegum. There are also some spices I can't put names to, perhaps including a slight pepperiness? Aftertaste is of nice, semi-tart, semi-sweet yeasty banana flavor with lingering hints of bubblegum.

The beer is solidly medium-bodied, with just a faint hint of lightness around the edges. Carbonation level is high enough that this moves pleasantly along on the palate while sampling. Finish is pleasantly dry, inviting the next partaking of.

To me, this easily competes with the best of this category: Weihenstephaner, Ayinger, and such. Quality is apparent in every category,

Glass - Wheat beer

A - Clouded orange color with moderate-high visible C02. It produced a 2-finger soapy white head that stuck around pretty well. A small splotch was left on one side of my glass.

S - Upfront I get a fresh squeezed orange note. I get a bit of clove underneath the fresh orange note. Soft banana and a bit of breadiness going on as well. Simple and inviting.

T - Fresh orange juice and orange zest is what I pick up first. Mild clove, banana and bread quickly follow. A slight twang sits on the tongue after you swallow it. Bitterness is very mild.

M - Medium-high crispness with a smooth lite-medium body.

O - It's pretty simple and refreshing to me. The taste and the smell are practically the same. This is a pretty darn good hefeweizen that I'd love to toss back with almost food. I think I would like a bit more bread flavor but it's still great. Extremely drinkable. Id definitely buy this one again.

Glass: Wheat beer glass

Mango color, hazy with a frothy 2-finger head. Sudsy lacing. Aromas of banana, clove, orange and lemon rind with a mellow toasted malt.

Flavors of banana, clove, orange, lemon zest and light buttered cracker. Feels a bit thin, low-medium body and medium carbonation.

A straightforward beer that has no obvious faults, very refreshing and easy-drinking. How can you not like this brew.
