Spaten Pils pours a crystal clear golden amber from a dark brown 1pt .9fl oz glass bottle with a pry off cap. Head of white fine bubble foam went to over two fingers before dissipating to a full cap of carpeting foam with fine lacing along the walls of my 22oz Pils glass.
Nose is of damp barley grain, malt, and hops. Palate is a well bittered hops followed by toasted barley malts where the bittering is more prevalent than the sweet malt. The level of carbonation is evident by the constant streams of bubbles welling up from the golden Pils when the glass is at rest, which is not often. Also the bight of carbonation and bittering of the hops, make for a pleasant aftertaste as well.
A more complete Pils would be hard to find, as all of the attributes are represented well, appearance, smell, and taste, being World Class.

Serving Type - 500ml can poured into a pilsner glass.
Appearance - Pours a pale, golden-straw colour, with about one finger of bright white head which fade quickly, leaving behind next to no lacing.
Smell - Pretty standard pils fare here. Cereal and grains dominate, with a faint grassy presence as well.
Taste - Cereal, grains and grass. The pleasant hop presence makes the beer a bit more bitter than I was expecting. However, it is not so bitter as to stop it from being both refreshing and drinkable.
Mouthfeel - An incredibly light body with very high carbonation makes this pils particularly crisp.
Overall - 3.5/5

on draught at Old World in Huntington Beach, downstairs in The Rathskeller. served by Monica....
appearance is the typical headstrong foam on top, clear straw liquid.
smell is dry and bitter.
taste is also dry and bitter, some hops coming through but different than what you will taste with american brews and their hops. a little tart, a little citrus(?), but overall, an average and similar compared with the other germans of this type.
but the ambience certainly affects the taste, does it not? and The Rathskeller certainly has that charming, warm appeal. definitely stop by if you're in the area; it gives me the feeling of my second home....
