Part of my NC haul, wish we could get these beers here in Oklahoma...
Pours mahogany with caramel colored head. Good lacing & above average head retention
S: Mucho dark fruit, carob, fusel alcohol, woody notes, licorice & smoke
T: Follows the nose, a touch of chocolate & charred grain up front. Black currant,, charred grain, a touch of ainise & carob as this warms, plus woody dryness, plums & a touch of leafy hops, & bit of medicinal/sasparilla sweetness. Finishes with a bit of charred grain, plums, some caramel, woody dryness
MF: Slick with silky carbonation, medium bodied with sticky notes
A top notch Baltic Porter, another winner from the Crooked Stave line, this one drinks so easy, yet highly complex

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a deep brown color with a one half inch tan head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave lots of lacing on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a roasted malt smell mixed with nice aromas of chocolate and coffee. Along with these darker aromas are some notes of a caramel sweetness mixed with a little bit of a vanilla and an oaky smell.
Taste – The taste begins with roasted malt taste mixed with some sweeter tastes of caramel and a bit of light vanilla upfront. A light chocolate flavor quickly comes to the tongue with an oaky taste soon following mid way through the taste. The caramel sweetness dwindles more toward the end with the overall flavor of the brew drying out a bit as some roasted coffee and a more dark chocolate like flavor grow stronger. In the end, the roasted characteristics of the brew stand out rather well, leaving a dry and roasty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side with a carbonation level that is rather average to slightly above average producing a very easy drinking brew, although it may possibly be a little light for accentuating the darker flavors of the brew.
Overall – A tasty and very easy drinking brew. There is almost no detectable alcohol taste even at 8 % abv. The nice roasted malt and drier finish of the brew make this one a quite delicious and a dangerous brew. Quite nice.

750ml bottle into a tulip glass
a - pours opaque, with some ruby highlights (minimum). dark, tan head that persists through the entire experience.
s - roasty, with some dark fruit character. hints of chocolate that is very complimentary. malt forward with no hop profile perceivable.
t - complex, as expected from a baltic porter. dark fruit accompanied by roasty character. malt forward, with no hops perceivable. some ethanol, but not offensive.
m - medium body, medium carbonation, warming, with minor astringency from roast profile.
o - exceptional beer. doesn't fall short of a baltic porter. slightly more roasty than i would have anticipated. however, doesn't bleed into the 'stout' realm, and is very enjoyable. rich with malt complexity. extremely enjoyable, and would definitely purchase again.

Be careful as it pours a gargantuan head, easily fills half a pint glass with creamy dark brown foam, even mix of larger and denser tiny bubbles, fair amount of dimpling give how airy it is inside, better than average retention, same for the lacing, good thickness to the streaks and sticks well. The liquid is more black than brown, opaque enough to be a stout and with little hint of any orange or any true color. The nose has a natural feeling fullness to it but in no way heavy, the milk chocolate, cocoa powder and vanilla remains semi-sweet at most, Brazil nuts and cashews, some peaty smokiness but stays pure, keeps the toast on the down low, passing waft of flowers, any fruit scents stay muted, develops a sort of mineral water tang to keep the nostrils fresh. Medium-bodied, compact and polished, impeccable balance and completely devoid of ostentation. Chocolate, caramel, toffee and a hint of toasted coconut and scone, just the right amount of booziness from the wood. Again, has a peat, grass, earth side, here you get some cherry, apricot and peach fruit, more snap than sugar. Soft, refreshing and ultimately about as well-mannered as any guest you’d invite to your table.

750ml bottle poured into a large snifter.
A: Deep brown on the pour, very close to black. an inch and a half of tan head retain very well. Lacing patterns the glass in thin rings and small spots.
S: Chocolate truffles and black cocoa powder, hints of smoke and jerky, slight pepper, plum and cherry esters, and a subtle toasted oak backing with an accompanying vanilla note.
T: Fudge and German chocolate cake. Cola. Undercurrent of caramel and molasses. Woody and smokey, turns a bit acrid. Black cherry and plum darkfruit. Very subtle noted of toasted oak and vanilla. Slight peppery alcohol. Finishes smokey and a touch acrid with a slight drying oak presence.
M: Medium-thick body. Very creamy and a bit airy, it seems lighter than it is. Moderate prickling carbonation helps to lift and scrub.
O: Uinta's barrel aged beers tend to take the 'less is more' approach, and this one is no exception. A very subtle incorporation of the barrel means that the wood takes on a strictly complementary role. Nice balance and restraint displayed here, and the beer benefits from it.
