Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a tulip glass.

A: Clear, medium amber color with over one finger of dense parchment-tinted foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.

S: Bright vinous fruit, baking spices, balsamic vinegar, earthy cereal, and restrained oak combine for a decadent and interesting array of scents. No alcohol is detected.

T: Begins off-dry, with early cloves and layered crystal and aromatic malts that are soon joined by honest pumpkin fruit against a mildly acidic (carbonic; not sour) backdrop. Flavors become mellow and earthy in the middle, with aromatic vanilla replacing the baking spice. The finish is clean, short, and lacking in bitterness; a phantom sensation of cola lingers on the palate. Spirituous vapors are encountered throughout the flavor profile, but are never outright boozy.

M: Medium viscosity, smooth and slightly syrupy on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This strong pumpkin ale is a pleasure to behold; it strikes a near-perfect stance incorporating attention to the signature ingredient, a mature application of wood-aging, and enduring awareness that this is a beer. It remains capable of being enjoyed as beer, with a clear attention to details exhibited by the brewer. Hard to find fault with; perhaps its greatest transgression is that it remains a beer brewed with pumpkin...

Pours a vivid red colour, really quite shiny. Head is cream-coloured, settled out to a thin film with very decent lace left behind. More retention would be a gas, but it still looks pretty damn good.

Smell is quite pleasant indeed. Distinct sourness, in a bacteria way, not a lot of horse blanket to it, but a pleasant sweet spice as well. Largely cinnamon, with a touch of anise as well. Smells like a good Christmas ale, but with a light sourness to freshen up. Like it a lot.

Taste is also very Christmassy - cherry notes soaked in booze, with cinnamon, clove and anise, all with a big vanilla-tinged malt underneath. Toffee, caramel, touch of red wine and some rye whiskey. Macadamias, walnuts and figs as well. Yes, not a lot of pumpkin if truth be told (was served to me blind). It's a big Wintery wonderland. I want more of that sourness I detected on the nose to cleanse it a little, but there is a hint of it just dusting off the sweetness at the end. A very merry celebration of the festive season, but more of that sourness would make this a damn 'Christmas' cracker.

Full and pretty boozey. Gets a large, quite hot note late-mid which overpowers a bit. Could otherwise have been good.

Nice, sweet Winter ale - warm and pleasant and comforting.

A: Pours a crystal clear very dark amber in color with some ruby red highlights and moderate amounts of gentle visible carbonation. The beer has a two finger tall creamy dark beige head that slowly reduces to a mottled thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of sweet caramel malts with some slightly lesser notes of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg). There is a light undertone of pumpkin with some light notes of vanilla, oak, and alcohol.

T: Moderate to strong flavors of sweet caramel malts with some slightly lighter flavors of roasted pumpkin, brown sugar, and pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, clover, ginger, and nutmeg). There are light to moderate flavors of oak and vanilla. Very light hints of alcohol towards the finish.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Smooth with light to moderate amounts of alcohol heat and just a touch of dryness in the finish.

O: This is very enjoyable brew and is a little different (in a positive way) from the other pumpkin beers that I have experienced...really like the contribution of the oak and what it imparted to the flavor and aroma. I wish that the alcohol had been a little subtle in this one, it made the beer very much a slow sipper.
