Beer #25 in my great Utah Brew Hunt.

Don't know why, but I've held off in trying this one numerous times. I think seeing the rating on it may have jaded me from giving it a shot earlier on.

This is actually fairly good. It is mellow, in comparison to the really out there pale ales that a lot of people are making. A heavy malt base supports a clear hop influence, but not to the tone that you come to expect for the style. I don't really hold this against the obnoxious interpretations of an apa, to be honest. I am letting this stand on its own, and I can say that it is a good pale ale. Not quite as rounded as I would like, but it works. Carbonation is a bit high and biting, but it doesn't really matter.

What a great Extra Pale Ale. I purchased this at Uptown Market in SW Portland Oregon because the 12 oz bottle was $1.35 and because it was already cold. Imagine my surprise at being refreshed by a pale ale very unlike having sex on a boat (f---ing close to water!) but instead a cocktail of subtle flavors that played on my tongue like they were elementary school kids and it was recess time.

Nice decently lasting very puffy off-white head, not quite totally clear appearance but whatever. Light but not as light colored as I was expecting (was expecting rolling rock color)
Can't tell what it smells like as I am congested.
Tastes amazing, grapefruity hops yielding to grassy hops and leaving a green and black tea-like finish which was extremely compelling. Bitterness is just right and refreshing.
Smooth and refreshingly carby when cold, as it warms it's still okay.

A 12oz bottle with a bottled-on date of May 18th 2012. Purchased recently at the GBBF in London. The label mentions that this brew is organic.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A bright golden hue with slight haze and medium carbonation. Yields a large head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a thin surface layer. Aroma of sweet, grainy malt with notes of grapefruit, citrus, mild pine and faint grassiness. A hint of caramel and subtle earthy yeast in the background.

Tastes of light caramel malt with a crisp bitter finish. Notes of grapefruit, citrus and pine resin, along with dry, earthy yeast and biscuity grain. Slightly sweet. A well-judged bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is dry and tingly, with a spicy quality on the tongue. Reasonable body for the style. Mildly astringent; leaves an aftertaste of aromatic hops and malt.

Nice - not quite SNPA but a very drinkable pale ale. Well balanced; the malt is light and sweet while the aromatic hops come through nicely. The bitterness is restrained but appropriate. Great for a hot day - I'd certainly have one again. Too bad Uinta brews aren't found much near me. Worth sampling if you see it.

Pours hazy orange gold color with a tremendous 2 finger cloudy/foamy white head that faded extremely slowly with canyons forming as the head went down, leaving excellent foamy lacing and rings as it went down - a fantastic looking pale ale.

Smells of cereal, sweet malt, light caramel, grains, biscuit, grass, floral hops, citrus hops, lemon zest, herbs and light fruit like apple or grape; aroma is soft and nice combo of malts and hops with nice balance.

Tastes of floral hops, citrus hops, lemon, herbs, grains, sweet malt, caramel, grains, biscuit, tea lead, very light spices like coriander and pepper; real nice pale ale flavor that leans towards an American IPA, while the nose leans towards and English ale.

Mouthfeel is light and crisp, with a light body, very mild carbonation and a refreshing clean finish. Overall this was tasty and highly drinkable, and to me is a great session beer. Another winner from Uinta that I strongly recommend trying.

LOOK: Pale orange colored brew with fine clarity. Active carbonation rising to an inch of pillowy foam. Leaves some lace down the glass.

SMELL: Aromas of orange, lemon, grass, hay and herbs are all there in full effect. Inviting aroma of pale ale goodness.

TASTE: Orange and grapefruit zest, mild tropical like note, resinous hop notes, grass, and a light caramel base. Very flavorful with loads of hop notes packed into a 4% pale ale. Impressive showing.

FEEL: Light bodied, well carbonated, even finish, clean, it is what it should be.

OVERALL: A great tasting pale ale from Uinta brewing. Their success in brewing seems to be the subtleties and solid flavor of all their beers. This is no different; a world class pale ale especially adept for sessions.

Pours a clear orange tinged golden color with a small, white head that leaves little bits of lacing.

Smells of bright citrus hops.

Tastes of the hops upfront with a decent malt backbone. Hops lead off with citrus and grass notes. Not particularly bitter. Malts come in and a little grainy sweetness along with some bread notes. Everything is very light and the beer comes off as a little bland.

Mouthfeel is light with a small amount of carbonation.

Overall, this is a mediocre beer that I would pass on.

Poured into an E&J Cask & Cream glass on 8/1/12

Pale golden yellow; mostly clear. Fizzy head rises to one finger and dissipates moderately. Thin layer of retention. Droopy rings of lace.

I really like the aroma; clean hop goodness abounds. Notes of tangerine, peach and orange. Grassy overtones. The malt offset is very subtle with a notion of dry cracker. Impressive.

The taste ain't too bad either. The hops lack some of the juicy vibrancy of the aroma, but there is a fair amount of crackle regardless. Very grassy with moderate bitterness a la citrus zest. The malt bill is clean with toasted grains. Dry, dry, dry.

The feel overall is fine for an extra pale ale / IPA light / what have you. That said, the crisp, light body has a thin feel at times, a characteristic of which the vigorous carbonation takes advantage.

Overall impression - I get the impression the folks at Uinta know a thing or two about how to get the most out of hops. At two and a half months old, Wyld is an easy recommendation. I can't begin to imagine how good this would be fresh.

Sublime Ale House in San Marcos, Calif., on July 14, 2012. Draft into pint glass. Golden honey orange color. One finger of head when I got it that slowly dissipated. Light white lacing with good retention all around.

Smelled a potent whiff of citrus hops, mainly grapefruit and lemon. Lots of bitter notes, but refreshing, making me want to try it.

Got a sharp taste of citrus bitter hops up front, giving way to a refreshingly clean finish. Grapefuit, tangerine, orange and lemon led the way. Very bitter overall. Seems a lot stronger than 4 percent.

Light body. Thin texture. Average-to-below average carbonation. Bitter, abrupt finish. Clean, crisp and refreshing.

Just a great beer for the summer. Another good beer from Uinta.

This has become my new favorite session beer. At 4%, it might be the lowest abv craft ale out there.

Light copper color, nice hoppy nose. Good hop flavor (Citra?), light-bodied as to be expected... malts show up in the finish.

This beer absolutely delivers on its "Extra" Pale Ale style.

Color is a cross between pale and gold with a decent head into my glass. This beer also came out of the Ryan & Casey pre-mixed sixer.

Ok. I realize this comes from Utah and is only 4%. Still, there's something inviting about the malt.

Clean, buttery bread essence with just a touch of hops. A bit watery?

Very light on the mouthfeel. Kind of boring if you ask me.

Gotta give them credit. It's not easy to make something drinkable at 4%. Still, it goes down good on a hot evening.

Fairly clear, golden-yellow. Foamy white head, average retention, nice lacing.

Light bouquet of citric, floral and pine hops.

Citric floral hops, bready, biscuit finish.

Medium light body with average prickly carbonation. Finishes a bit watery.

Fairly average overall, and just a bit disappointing/unimpressive.

Appearance - This is a light, clear yellowish orange in color with a quick white head.

Smell - The dry-hopping is very apparent at the nose. The hops, nice citrus with a touch of pine, are not big but very fresh and noticeable. I'm sure there's some grain in there but I just can't pick it up through the hops.

Taste - The hops surprisingly carry through to the taste, very unusual for a light dry-hopped APA. The grain makes itself known and it is not bad. It's a bit on the raw side but pleasant.

Mouthfeel - This is light-bodied with decent carbonation and a bitter finish.

Drinkability - The light body and fresh but not overpowering hops make this a very drinkable ale.

Pours a slightly hazy orange amber with a medium slowly dissipating white head, some light lacing. Aroma and taste of citrus floral hops, biscuit a malt and some grassy notes. Palate is a medium body with moderate carbonation. Finishes with some biscuit malt , and some citrus and floral hops. Flavor seems a bit light for the style. Overall an ok brew

12oz. bottle poured into a nonic.

(A)- Pours a pale orange color. Produced a small white head of froth, Minimal lace.

(S)- A nice drying pine needle and a subtle yeasty lemon and orange citrus.

(T)- Some lemon and orange citrus with caramel malt. Some pine shows up, but quickly flows into a heavy yeast spiciness.

(M)- A good carbonation level. The balance is fair, but kind of strange with that heavy yeast bit in there.

(D)- Not bad, but perhaps a tad disjointed.

Humble, simple bottles and a nice looking pour lead to a very good first impression; subtle flowery hops, nice carbonation, applesauce and summer... The impression fades quickly with each passing sip until you are left with a granular, watery beer that you just want to finish and get away from. I think this beer would benefit if closer attention were paid to the beer's wyld, extra and ale aspects and less focus was on the pale part.

A- Poured into a pint glass with an apple-juice like hue, deep gold. A white head forms with a nice creamy texture and retains well. Finely bubbled ring leaves spotty lace randomly around the glass.

S- Extra pale ale backbone with notes of light caramel, yeast bread and light fruits. Dry hopping works to add a tiny hint of citrus fruits.

T- The yeast bread and light malts shine through here providing a full backdrop for the other flavors like hops, caramel and apple/light fruit. The dry hops round it out with citrus, herbal and pine notes without adding much bitterness.

MF- Light, crisp body that just has that refreshing feel. It resembles soda a bit but has the right substance to support the flavors present. Light bitterness on the palate.

Dry hopping adds just enough flavor here to make it a good extra pale ale. Another solid Uinta offering that I could pick up anytime and enjoy. Would make an excellent cookout beer or something to gateway people into craft beer with.

a cloudy orangeish yellow body with a thin off white head that displays good staying power and average lacing. taste and smell are bready biscuity malts with some citrus hops in the background. mouthfeel is above average for me. extra driness without the overpowering bitterness. maybe a tad on the thin side. overall its nice, but i dont know that i would buy again.

On tap at Wine 101 in Wake Forest.

Pours a golden orange with little head. The nose is bready, toasty, and has some citrusy hop notes. The flavor is malt forward with a big, bready, biscuity malt character with some underlying notes of burnt toast. The hop character is very citrusy with notes of grapefruit complementing the malts. There is a faint bitterness in the finish, but it's balanced and welcome. The mouthfeel is light bodied, smooth, and crisp.

This is an easy drinking, flavorful, sessionable beer. It's worth trying.

Pours a clear orange with a big, fluffy white head that lingers and laces.

Smells of bready malt, pine, floral hops, and some citrus. Pretty biscuity with a nice, almost spicy hop aroma.

Taste is bready and piney up front with a slight citrus undertone that goes into a slightly astringent middle before ending on a malty pine finish with hints of something....a bit off in the finish, not sure what it is, as it is really subtle.

Lighter body with medium carbonation work well.

I quite like this pale ale actually, really nice, dry, and piney for the abv.

A- Quarter inch retention that fades in 30 seconds. No lacing to speak of. Pale golden color, moderate clarity. Pretty weak looking.

S- Floral hoppiness with light citrusy touches. Hop oil smell that is somewhat acrid. Not very good.

T- The hop oil is strong, it's not even bitter so much as acidic.

M- Medium bodied, smooth.

O- This is a doozy. Not in a good way. Avoid this badboy.

A clear lightish orange golden with a white head that quickly escapes, leaving its remnants around the edge. Bubbles keep coming to the surface. A refreshing aroma of grapefruit and malt mixed with some lemon and grass. Very nice. A sweet, citric flavor to this, very little bitterness at all. Nothing fancy or complex but very nice and enjoyable. Thinner body to this, crisp, with some nice activity from the carbonation. A great sessionable beer here, ideal for the upcoming warm sunny spring and summer days and evening. I will definitely enjoy sitting back throwing a few of these back. Only bought a single this time but will definitely pick up a sixer of this.

Thoroughly impressed with this delicious session beer. Pours a honey golden with a slight haze. Big white finger and a half head after a vigorous pour. Strong citrus hop aroma with a nice grassy/lemongrass aroma weaved in. Slight metallic taste lies beneath it all but it's a really good arm-bender. I may be seeking this out in the summer.

A: The beer is clear light copper in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high head that quickly died down leaving delicate lacing covering the surface and a thin ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. It also left a bit of lacing running down the sides of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of citrus hops in the nose along with some hints of pine resin.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has a good amount of grapefruit flavors from the hops but is only accompanied by a slight amount of bitterness.
M: It feels a bit shy of medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a bit of crispness. It has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really enjoyed this beer because the relatively light-bodied nature made it easy drinking and it had all of the hop aromas and flavors that you would expect from a West Coast IPA but without the alcohol and bitterness.

Strong aroma is quite hoppy and piney, with a hint of citrus, more like an IPA than a "regular" pale ale. It pours a typical but still appealing clear amber with a decent off-white head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor is quite hoppy with a malty undertone and hints of caramel and sour citrus. Texture is smooth and somewhat fizzy, leaving a nice hoppy tingle. You can just about taste the wilderness.
