Uinta Wyld
5/16/13
12oz can, best before 8/18/13

Lightly hazy gold with a one-finger head. Good retention, lacing. (3.5)

Aroma is subtly hoppy and fruity. I can't tell if it's esters or hops, but I get some ripe melon, and some dank, heavier hop notes reminiscent of Simcoe. Pretty restrained overall, but nice. (4)

Flavor is moderately bitter with some grainy sweetness. Biscuity and cracker-like malt. Exceptionally clean, with a modest hop flavor. Grassy and earthy, with some grapefruit notes. Highly drinkable. Could use a bit more carb. (3.5, 3.5)

This is one of the better XPAs I've had, and it came all the way from Utah! Quality-control-wise this is an impressive beer. No signs of flavor degradation. Clean and delicately hopped. A good beer. (4)

A: Pours out a very clear burnt gold color. Two fingers of white head.

S: Quite a bit of variety here with dank pine, mango, grapefruit, and pineapple scents all present.

T: Very similar to the smell. I'm also catching some earthy tones in there.

M: Body is on the lighter side with medium carbonation. The body is also a little creamy.

O: I thought this was a great pale ale. It has a lot more complexity than a lot of others I've had. It is the epitome of the type of beer I would want to pound on a summer's day so I could get a good balance of refreshing and flavor. Unfortunately, the price point seems a bit high when the ABV is so low.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Pours a hazy yellow color, less than a finger head, that fades fast, moderate lacing.
S - First big aroma is wheat, followed by some wild flowers and some weird spices, a little yeast, and barely any hops.
T - This tastes like a watered down mix of a saison and lager, wheat flavor, lager yeast, and some mix of faint spices and floral notes like you'd get in a saison.
M - Light, and quenching, decent balance.
O - This isnt stellar by any means, its not a good pale ale, but it is unique for what its worth, thirst quenching? sure.

A: Very clear, dark gold. This was definitely lighter, in appearance, than most of the Pale Ales I've tried. One finger head that left really nice lacing.

S: Nice crisp odor.

T: I just loved the way this tasted. It was somewhat surprising given the light color. Nice citrus hop notes.

M: While the mouthfeel was on the light side it still delivered more than I expected for a 4% ABV beer.

O: This one will be a staple in my fridge. Great taste (subjective), low ABV, and It comes in a can!

A mini-trade with my colleague, Sam Knocken, netted me this and several other Uinta beers. That works!

From the bottle: "Earth, Wind and Beer Unleashed by Uinta Brewing Co. Salt Lake City Utah"; "For best flavor enjoy in a glass"; "Brewed with renewable power"; "Extra Pale Ale".

Unleash the hops! My pour not only created a finger of dense, rocky, eggshell-white head with good retention, but my kitchen smells like someone is cutting open a bunch of grapefruits. Yum! Color was a deep orangish-amber with just a hint of haze. Leaning in, I could also smell biscuit-y malts to accompany the citrusiness. Mouthfeel was medium and the taste was pure grapefruit. Finish was dry, not gaspingly so, but still very dry. If the ABV truly is only 4%, this would make for a highly sessionable beer. Me likee.

From a 355 ml bottle (best by April 14, 2013) into a tulip.

A-The brew is quite bright in its orange and yellow hues, and a touch murky. There is a dense, nearly-white, two-finger head that drops at a moderate pace into a thick cap, and eventually disappears.

S-The smell is full of sharp, citrusy hops. I mostly detect orange zest and lemon. The malts give a fruity, esthery fragrance, too. There is a little bit of biscuit underneath.

T-The taste is much less inspiring than the smell. The hops are softer and there is more pale, biscuity-cracker flavor. I also detect a tinny, metallic flavor. I'm not sure if the beer is too old (it is close to the best by date), but the flavors are a little oxidized.

M-The feel is soft, non-intrusive, and medium bodied. Ho-hum.

O-This beer starts off with a decent look and a pleasant smell, but the taste leaves a little to be desired. The hops just melt away and the flavor is thin and sort-of metallic. I've definitely had better session beers and APAs than this one.

Poured from a "stubby" 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Clear gold in color, with a moderate head of white foam.
Aroma-PLeasant boquet of floral, citrus hops
Taste-Nice wave of white grapefruit-rind bitterness, pale malts and "dusty" hops. Light-bodied but vey nice flavor. At 4.0ABV, this brew lends itself well to a session with friends around the grill or on the deck.
