Pours a clear ruby mahogany with a fluffy off-white head that lingers and laces.

Smells of raisins, plums, dark fruit...heavy on the plum, some sweetness, grapefruit. Really nice aroma.

Taste is up front lighter fruit that goes into a darker plum taste followed by a bigger bitter, slightly malty middle and a lingering fruit, sweet finish with hints of toffee and caramel.

Heavier to medium body with lower to medium carbonation works well enough.

A good, plumy and bitter barleywine. Something is lacking...not quite sure what.

Appearance: Rich deep mahogany with some gold hues. Very slight tan head that rests along the rim. Some splotchy patches of continuously bubbling carbonation. Not much lacing

Aroma: Lots of sweet caramel and (not entirely surprising) toasty barley. Some boozy fruit. Apples and figs. Thick resiny hops. Slightly earthy

Taste: Follows nose with more emphasis on the hops. Starts with a slightly syrupy barley sweetness. Buttery. Resiny earthy hops kick in around the mid palate and stick around for the duration. Faint pine. Strangely salty. Not detecting any alcohol but I'm not really enjoying this one

Mouthfeel: Starts off smooth and watery but ends up thick and syrupy and very drying with a slight burn of alcohol

Overall: Maybe I should have aged this for a bit. The taste is fairly complex but the saltiness is very offputting. Probably wouldn't revisit this

12oz. bottle poured into a Flying Dog goblet

A: A very nice dark brown that shows a bit of amber when put up to the light. It is barely see through and almost opaque. The lacing is ok as well.

S: There is big sweet malty smell with a tinge of hops that come through to complement it. The hop smell is very piney and full of resin but barely comes through the sweet malt base.

T: The sweetness is masked very well and barely there. I get barely any malt, it is completely melded with the hops and is quite piney, a lot like an IPA. The closest IPA would either be a black or rye IPA. The aftertaste is a bit weird, it is bitter but like a messed up IPA aftertaste. You get the bitterness but there is something else there that makes it more pronounced and strong, but not in a good way.

M: The carbonation is quite minimal but you can feel a slight fuzziness throughout with only a touch of crispness as it touches your lips and at the finish.

O: It is a weird barleywine. It is heavily hopped and tastes like a weird IPA, but the barleywine comes through a little bit and kind of ruins it. The malty sweetness backbone tastes really odd and kind of ruins it. I would say it tastes like a bad Bigfoot. The aftertaste is no good.

Appearance: Poured a DARK red wine color accompanied by a creamy brown head that left such a beautiful, fine lace.

Smell: A grainy/biscuity smell comes through with strong malt aromas. Also, a delicately sweet, fruity wine floats in the scent.

Taste: The beginning opens up with some sweet fruit and nut flavors; the middle drags the flavor down into a bitter range, bringing out more of the hops but still balanced with some tasty malt flavors; the end finishes with a strong bitterness along with hints of toffee, coffee, and chocolate.

Mouthfeel: It was almost chewy. Excellent carbonation, just enough, sparse. It was creamy overall and left a very nice heat after a half minute on a sip.

Overall: I celebrate the anniversary of Uinta by letting them know this was a spot on brew. I'm not even finished with it and I feel a bit toasty. After trying this and Stone's barley wine brew, I have discovered that I'm fond of this style; complexly flavored and unique. Cheers.

Got a 4-pack of this recently at Ayotte's ($9.99). Have opted to quaff a bottle or 2 today out in the 'Zebo....

Into a small tulip, it is a fairly clear brew. Color is a deep chestnut, with a short, rocky, tannish-hued head. Carbo is sparse, but the lacing is decent. The nose has some burnt caramel and a bit of florality; more malty than hoppy. Body is a basic medium, with a fairly smooth feel.

Flavor has more caramel, with some more burnt, caramelized notes. A touch of molasses plus a hint of dark fruit mix together. The finish is a tad dry, and the floral hop aspect is more noticeable at this juncture. Reminds me of a solid English style BW, perhaps like Victory Old Ho... Prosit!!

One bottle, given to me from my good friend in Denver!

Pours a nice dirty brown/crimson. Quickly dissipating head, doesn't really seem oily or hugely viscous... but is noticeably fairly thick.

Smells strongly of piney hops. Earthy malts, a tad sweet and a tad boozey. Maybe a very small hint of burnt caramel undertone.

Taste rushes in with a lot of earthiness and booze. There is a pleasant sweetness that is just a bit sticky. Small amount of that burnt caramel taste. There is like a toasty, nuttiness to it... like strongly toasted almonds. The beer creeps away into the piney/herbal hops that have a nice subtle bitterness that lingers. It's noticeably hoppy, but doesn't cut your tongue out like Bigfoot from Sierra Nevada.

Mouthfeel, medium to heavy I would say. The grainy carbonation helps lighten it and is really well done. It remains drinkable, it has some dryness, it has a great carbonation for the style. Just all around perfected for this kind of beer. Slightly tacky/sticky. All is where it should be I feel on the mouthfeel.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. I am not a big hop fan but this is definitely one of the better hoppy barley wines I have had. Bigfoot is almost too aggressive... Nogne #100 is is hopped to the point it doesn't even seem like a barley wine anymore. But this grapples it in and fits the American bill on the style.

A: Deep brown with shades of red. Good lacing

S: Sweet/toasty malt and light hops

T: Malt sweetness balanced by light hop bitterness. Finishes with toast and a hint of booze

M: Smooth

Overall: I like this beer. The rich malt and toasty aroma is my favorite aspect. It's pretty well balanced and the alcohol is hidden. This is my first beer from Uinta and I'm not disappointed.

Pours deep mahogany with no head, but a cream-colored ring of small bubbles. No lace.

Big citric hop nose, some caramel, some dark fruit and alcohol.

Big hoppy note up front. Bitter bread crust, toasted malt, creamy bits, some sugar in the background, but hidden behind the bitterness. Toffee and burnt sugars. Long bitter finish with an alcohol burn at the end.

Full bodied, some tingle.

Good bitter brew here. But much of the complexity I'm sure that went into this ends up hidden behind a massive bitter wall of hops. I wanted rich complexity and I got an overdone overhopped beer. I appreciate the effort, but I won't be having this again.
