500 mL brown bottle poured into a pint glass.
A: Ruby-coloured ale; moderate head and lacing.
S: A bit spicy with malts predominant.
T: This is where it gets interesting--spicy, rich, with mild brown sugar, molasses and dark fruit flavors--I'd put this ale more in line with a dark mild or an English brown rather than an English bitter.
M: nice carbonation to balance out the flavours.
D: very drinkable--wish I had another one now!

Pours slightly hazy dark copper with very thin and bubbly brown head. Does not look too attractive. Aroma is rather strong and rich caramel, wood, what seems to be like rum with spices.
Taste is almost dissapointing watery malt with roasted bitterness, finishes slightly astringent and dry. Mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation.
Apart from aroma, I did not like it, it reminded me of fresh homebrew that needs maturing. I am somewhat disspointed I brought this beer back from England, should have brought something else instead.

Brown 500ml bottle, best before 12/2008, drank 09/2008.
Poured into a straight pint glass. The reddy, murky brown coloured body was not clear, nor was it cloudy. Lets just call it a Cornish Sea Misty apperance. An off-white head sat on top of this brew of dirty washing up water look alike!
The smell was in fact the best part of the experience for me. It was a rich raison and rum smell, with hops and roasted malts adding to the smell, very inviting.
The first sip told me something was wrong. It had a soft, dry, turning to vinegar taste. Reminded me of an old cask beer that hadn't be looked after.
It seemed stale, I thought I could detect mushrooms in the taste, which isn't a compliment!
It was what one of my workmates calls 'Flat Shit', his name for a Real Ale in poor condition.
I may have had a bad bottle, if that is the case I'll remove this review. I am however loath to try another one.

Appearance: copper, good clarity, huge layer of bubbly tan foam that turns rocky as it compacts; good head retention
Aroma: luscious combination of rich caramel, moist raisins, spicy rum, woody hops, biscuity malt, old leather, and vanilla
Flavor: thin malt backbone supporting a layer of roasty bitterness, biscuit malt, oak, brown sugar, and slight acidity; finishes dry with an aftertaste of caramel, leather, and weak coffee
Mouthfeel: medium body, pert carbonation, slight astringency, a bit thin-textured
Other comments: It started out so promising. The aroma is captivating! But it just doesn't follow through in the flavor department.

500ml bottle poured into a pint glass
Pours with a rich reddy maroon body. Thick patchy off white head with solid retention, some eggshell white lacing up and down the glass
Smell, slightly skunky on the nose, some dry biscuity malt along with a dank musty aroma. Some english aroma hops and a little bit of caramel
Taste, crisp mouthfeel with aggressive carbonation. Thick rich biscuity malt along with a sharp slightly citric bitterness from the hops. Slightly dry on the mouthfeel with a greasy finish, some burnt sugar and bourbon biscuits
Not particularly exciting. Over carbonated and a few off flavours prevent this from being a particularly drinkable ale
