2009 vintage on tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Slightly hazy body, dull yellow in color. No head but there are champagne-like bubbles suspended in the beer. Aroma is dominated by a lovely, mildly sweet strawberry, with some tart green apples. Taste is extremely tart with the same two flavors dominating. Quite mouth puckering, much more than expected. Delicious.

750 ml cork and caged bottle poured into a Bruery tulip.
3.0% ABV, no date.
Thanks to Rochefort10NH for another exciting-looking brew. I love me some Berliners!
A - Hazed through entirely, this beer has a soft pale golden hue around the outside edges with a light apricot colored mass in the center. Tightly packed bubbles form a nice head but disappear to a ring of lacing-less foam shortly. Acidity more than likely being the culprit.
S - Hints of freshly picked, ripe, but not crushed strawberries floats out from behind the classic Berliner Weisse aroma. Gently sour mash and wet wheat with grainy pale malt finishes with a kiss of tartness for an earthy, rather simple aroma. The fruit certainly isn't forward but it, along with the traces of yeast ester spices, adds something special to the beer.
T - Harsh grainy pale malt, husky straw, and wet wheat push forwards past the meek strawberry nuances which linger in the background. Gentle spice esters from the yeast which can be found in the aroma are missing entirely in flavor; a flavor that, oddly enough, when burped up produces a smell of fresh fiberglass and plastic, taking me back to yacht shows with my Dad.
M - Biting carbonation strikes the tongue with force only to be followed by a harsh mineral feel and graininess; wheat's usually soft feel is absent from this light-bodied beer. The tart, almost sour acidic finish does well to redeem the unusually hard, harsh introduction to the feel of this Berliner.
O - It's no wonder why strawberries are infrequently used in beers; my consensus is they generally add very little to said beers, even when a beer is as stylistically plain as a Berliner. Strawberry Short Weiss doesn't stray from this argument with it's faint fruit notes but what is surprising is how aggressive the beer is. From the strong carbonation to the harsh flavor and feel, it could use quite a bit more wheat to soften out the rough edges but it's nicely tart finish is something to leave in tact.

750ml corked and caged bottle into a tumbler. The brew appears a hazed pale yellow color with a finger of white that sits atop with very solid retaining powers for a berliner. After the cap fades, a light swirl agitates bubbles from solution and reforms across the top. Bubbles of carbonation rise through solution and maintain a ring of bubbles around the perimeter of the glass.
The aroma doesn't quite jump right out and scream strawberries but there is a mild fruited quality present that is mildly seedy and reminiscent of strawberry. There is a bit of carbonic character in the nose that brings out a bit of minerals.
The taste brings forth pale grain mildly like tart wheat and a bit cereal-like with a faint sweetness. Across the middle is a bit of carbonic quality just like the aroma led on and it shoves a bit of mineral and sulfur element into the flavor profile that is not fitting. A faint amount of seedy fruit flavor is present and I cant really state it tastes like strawberry. Maybe, but I only say that because of the name of the brew. It could easily be confused with a faint earthy raspberry berliner as the aftertaste here is similar to that. The aftertaste has a bit of earth and almost a green grassy aspect that is strange.
This is a light bodied brew with an effervescent level of carbonation. The alcohol inclusion is nonexistent and the feel of this is light and refreshing which is spot on for the style. At times, this brew had some real high points that were very enjoyable and quaff-able. However, the grassy aspect coupled with the carbonic/mineral inclusion kinda ruined the experience. Once I get that character locked into my mind, I couldn't shake it and it distracted me from the good qualities of this brew.

@ Sam's
Foggy pale straw with a little, creamy white head on top. Fresh strawberry aroma over some yellow cake, subtle dough, and general tartness. Lots of strawberries and berries in the flavor too. A clean sour quality, hints of wheat, and light body with a dry finish make an extremely refreshing beverage. Nothing terribly complex, but lots of flavor for such a light beer and never watery. This really hit the spot after a massive, meaty dinner. Glad I got to try it.

Cloudy pear-flesh color body. Little head. Minimal lacing.
Nose - savongion blanc, funk. Strawberry, pear. Definitely very fruity. Light barnyard.
Taste - tart. light strawberry. Wine like astringency. Lemon. Light funk but just enough to keep it very interesting. Dry, clean finish. Puckering. Not too sweet. Very enjoyable. I love the flavor here. Just enough sweet and tart. keeps it very complex but light at the same time.
Spritsy mouthfeel. Seltzer like.
Different, unique, complex. Excellent beer. I could drink a lot of this.

Draft at The Pour House in Westmont, NJ.
Pours a very hazy, dark golden yellow color with paler banana colored edges and a one finger white head that quickly settles into lasting ring. Spotty lacing left behind. I was expecting it to look artificial like red food coloring but fortunately it looks true to the style.
Slightly funky aroma with musty brett, bready yeast, banana, clove and citrus. Subtle lactic presence with a bit of fresh beery. Subtle sulfur like presence but they did a decent job of integrating the dessert characteristics into the Berliner notes.
Medium bodied with tart, puckering sourness up front that isn't harsh or overly acidic. Lactic funk and sourdough bread notes with citrus/lemon peel acidity. Earthy and musty with a decent dry brett presence. Subtle creaminess with a prominent berry flavor coming in at the end of the palate. Still, it's not overly sweet and is similar to a traditional Berliner. Crisp and very refreshing. Sometimes these fruit infused/dessert Berliners are overly sweet and overpower everything that's great about the style but this beer is excellently balanced and very well done.

From 09/18/12 notes. Had this on tap at Pony Bar on the UES in NYC. 8 oz. pour.
a - Pours a hazy yellow color with one inch of white head and low carbonation evident.
s - Smells of strawberries, fruity malts with a little tang, light citrus, earthy notes, grass, and hay. Nice and fruity but not too sweet.
t - Tastes of sweet strawberries, sour strawberries and berries, fruity malts, grass, earthy notes, light lemon and citrus hops, grains, and some wheat. A tiny bit of sourness and more than the nose; pretty nice.
m - Medium body and low carbonation. Very easy to drink beer. Nice and crisp.
o - Overall I thought this was a nice refreshing, and easy to drink, berliner. It is not very sour at all, but more a lightly sour blonde ale, with some lightly sour berries to it. Easy to drink and something I would like to have again, though don't go in expecting a big sour beer.

notes from last night...picked up a 32oz growler of this a day prior and enjoyed from a portsmouth snifter.
a - interesting and intriguing color. brew pours a murky peach orange with a few fingers of foamy head that turned to bubbles quickly. no lacing to speak of.
s - tart grassiness with a hint of berries, not so much strawberry specific...and some lemon. as i drink it i am definitely picking out more strawberry specific smells and flavors.
t - tart berries. grassiness and some lemon. again, not super strawberry specific at first but after my palate starts adjusting to the tart i can pick out strawberry specific flavors, but not intense.
m - prickly and refreshing. very much like a flavored seltzer.
o - overall a nice berliner with a hint of strawberry flavoring. kind of like strawberry seltzer. very nice for the warm weather which we are still hanging onto a bit. loving the 3% ABV.

On tap tonight at the River Road Tavern Tap Takeover.
Came to my stool a fairly cloudy medium straw color with a tint of pink and without much head at all. The aroma is tart and lactic with a bit of strawberry sweetness to counter. Sour tart fruit mix with a bit of strawberry sweetness before a bit of plastic phenol flavor and funk come up to greet my palette. Medium body which is more than I was expecting for such a low alcohol brew. Moderate level of carbonation with a tart sweet mouthfeel. I'm glad I got to try this as its a pretty good beer. That said I'm glad I didn't rush over to buy $15 bottles of this at the brewery.
