Kern River is a great place to try if not for the beer the food is tasty as well. This brew pub is small but comfortable and has a great pub decor. It is very down to earth and have spent hours here enjoying the beer inside as well as the balcony outside. They have their beers (JO,IB,SR,and CIVS) on tap as well as a few guest beers. The food is great example of simple pub food done right. The hot wings are ridiculous, hamburgers are great and the fish tacos are tasty. The price isn't to bad but I always seem to spend 100 every time I come here. Make the trip if you can you wont regret it.

This is the word that comes to mind when I think of Kern River Brewing. It all starts from the top, and Eric and Rebecca the owners lead by example. They both work in the restaurant and they have such a good way about them, and are tremendously generous. They are also very well liked in the community, and this speaks volumes.
The food was really tasty. I was impressed with the generous portions and the generous prices-- ahh to be far away from LA.
The night I was there there was a live band, which was a lot of fun.
But the beer, mon frer, the beer is the attraction. It does not disappoint. Their Sequoia Red is one of the finest reds I have ever had. Its big attention comes from the Just Outstanding, and the taste does absolutely live up to the name. I brought home a growler of Class V Stout which was phenomenal on tap and when I got home.
As mentioned by my boy, HopHeadlLouie, the guest taps were excellent as well.
A beautiful area this Kernville-- go for the rafting, stay for the brewing.

I came up to the Kern Valley for a day trip to watch my brother compete in a Mtn. Bike race. I've previously had a few beers of theirs, so I made it a point to stop by here for lunch and check out the brewery.
Its right in the cool little tourist area of Kernville, the perfect setting for a small high-quality brewery. For my beers, I ordered the Sequoia Red and a seasonal Saison, both were really good as expected. The food was on par with the quality of their Beers, my Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and fries was really good, and my girlfriends fish and chips were also fantastic. Service was good, and the place had this real nice laid back atmosphere which lets you know that you're not dealing with the LA type of people.
I need to find more excuses for me to get up there, day at the lake, camping, riding... ah screw it, i'll just come up for the brewery.

Awesome place! Service was excellent, food was good and most importantly the beer was fantastic, especially the "Just Outstanding IPA" In addition to the IPA they had a stout, a Belgian IPA, a blonde, a red and a guest tap from Lengthwise brewing. Very comfortable inside and out. Sat outside among the hop vines growing in the beer garden and had a terrific afternoon aside from the occasional fly that would land and drown in my beer, the waitress referred to this as "catching some Kernville protien" Very cool place! Surprising quality for this neck of the woods!

Beer is good, especially the Class V Stout and Belgian style ale. The food is uninspired and overpriced. I have to say it is a cozy environment. The owners are world class kayakers, totally friendly. Check out the biceps on the woman! She was an Olympic medalist in kayaking.
During the Fall, Winter and Spring when the river is too low for rafting and the place quiets down, a group of people play music inside or out. It is a fun place to pick and hang on a Saturday afternoon. You can hear rangers, cops, teachers, climbers, mountain bikers, kayakers, professionals and amateurs trading stories, songs, and sharing pitchers of beer.

i took a family rafting trip this past weekend and we stayed in kernville...i was pleasantly surprised to find a brewery in this small town. after a day of rafting a couple of the guides invited myself and my siblings for some drinks at the brewery. couldn't have thought of a better idea than cold beer after a hard day on the river...
place is quite small and has a great feel to it...the employees were all very helpful and i never had to wait more than a minute or two for a refill...
very reasonable prices as well...the drafts were 3.50 - 4.00 a piece...they do sell 22oz bombers as well for 3.50 a piece. growlers are available as well, 10.00 for the growler and 8.00 for the fill...
i can't wait to get back out there to go rafting and hit up this brewery again!

I went camping along the Kern River a few weeks ago and was lucky enough to try Kern River Brewing Company. They have four beers on tap which include an IPA, Red, Blonde and Stout. My friends were anxious to set up camp so we couldn't hang around (which espescially sucked because we got there right as happy hour was starting). i bought a growler of the stout and it was delicious! it was oatmeal stout i believe. i think the name is class 5 stout or something of that nature. very sweet stout. i would love to go back there and try all of the beers. they had a seasonal brew too but i can't remember what it was.

I'm sure some people will realize that I live in the same area as this brewery, and that Kernville is a small town. So yes the belief is somewhat true about people in small towns know each other or of each other. I won't write this as a friend or enemy, just as a guy that enjoys good brew!
With that said here is what I know. The brewpub is located in a refurbished well used building and they've extended the original floor plan. It really doesn't resemble any place I've ever been. Half of the inside looks down upon the brewing equipment. The place is rather small and compact when busy. The bar is small and accomidates about 6 stools. And yet somehow it feels spacious. There is a porch and beer garden that helps their capacity.
Service is great, nobody seems to ever have to wait for anything.
KRBC has decided to start off with a four beer selection, (IPA,Stout,Blonde,Red). Each of these beers are very enjoyable and I will go further in depth when I do the individual reviews. They are hoping to do four seasonal brews as well. Their are about 8 taps per fountain which allows for guest beers to be on tap. So far this has been a rotating very random selection.
The menu doesn't fit my appetite as well as alot of other pubs have. I'm a very meat and potatoes guy, but the food I have ordered was well prepared and very filling. The price is really reasonable.
The Kern river valley is out of the way for most people, but if you are lucky enough to be traveling through the area then make sure you have enough time to visit this young promising brewpub.
