I had this on tap at Max's during their Italian Fest. Golden in color, not clear, white head. This was listed as an IPA. You get a good smack of sweet honey up front, followed by the hops that aren't very strong. I don't like severe IPAs, so I didn't mind that it wasn't very strong, but the honey was a bit too sweet to compliment the hops. Mouthfeel was pretty good. Easy to drink, hop-wise, but the sweetness of the honey makes it a little slower to drink.

The bottle shape caught my eye during a recent trip to a nice little bottle shop in mini mart in Austin, TX.

Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Beautiful thick, rich head on a very cloudy golden brown body, wonderful lacing. Lemony, herbal smell and taste. Some peppery notes, a bit like a saison. A bit of lime and orange. Really enjoyed it.

My FGBS Drinking Team Secret Santa gave me this one during the exchange & since I am deeply immersed in the 2018 Winter Olympics (especially hockey) this weekend, I am delving into my foreign/import backlog. Ciao, Italia!

From the bottle: "Product of Italy".

I Pop!ped the cap & as with most/all/any imported bottles, I began a slow, gentle pour into the awaiting glass. I stopped as soon as I saw even a modicum of movement among the bottle's lees. Unbidden, it formed a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with excellent retention. Color was quintessentially Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity, evincing loads of CO2 bubbles. Nose had a pronounced mustiness along with a slight pine odor. This is going to be interesting! Mouthfeel was medium, but VERY carbonated. The beer in the glass looked like a poor man's lava lamp with all of the bubbles. The taste was different and interesting with a mustiness accompanied by a garden-like floweriness. This is going to be tough to quantify for the non-foodie: think Beef Jardinaire's sauce or Herbes de Provence. It was almost spicy, but with a pronounced flowery quality. The bitterness was quite low, but the unique flavor made up for its absence. My goodness, but this was very different from anything that I was used to drinking. Finish was dry, more due to its yeast, which continued to color its musty taste, but very pleasant. I drank a LOT of vino in La Maddalena, Sardinia in 1985, where I met Giuseppe who mentored me in bocce& introduced me to his daughter, Maria. I took may meals with them, accompanied by wine, both local & homemade, but they all knew that my heart lay with hops & beer. This would be great with pasta!

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle without date into the modified tulip glass.
A - Honey colored, aggressive carbonation tops out with a big white cap.
S - A bit musty, earthy grains, floral components are mild citrus, and notes of honeysuckle, and summer.
T - Following the nose perfectly the offering, starts a bit sweet, moves toward a level of bitterness, with a lingering finish.
F - Medium in body, a dry run across the palate, and a fine touch of sweetness as it exits.
O - A wonderful offering, age on this bottle has impacted the flavors in a good way, carbonation is perfect.
Worth seeking out.

Poured from a 12.7 ounce bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip. Picked up from a local bottle shop in State College, age unknown.

L: Pours a cloudy dark copper golden color. Insanely carbonated... overflowing foamy white head leaves sticky lacing.

S: Malty and sweet... a little spice.

T/F: Bready and malty. Surprisingly rich and grainy. The hop profile was woefully lacking. A bit of spice and pepper... a little herbal, but no significant bitterness. Some citrus notes. Overly carbonated and fizzy... and a bit sticky on the tongue.

O: It may have been a freshness issue, but this was a rather subpar IPA. Lacking in hop profile... and way overcarbonated. It fizzed over immediately upon cracking the bottle, with maybe 1/4 of the pour left on the countertop. I'd try it again if I could be sure that it was fresh. Fun for the novelty (an Italian IPA) but was not impressed.

330ml bottle poured into a teku glass.

Hazy orange amber in color, the pour quickly builds up massive white fluffy head that is here to stay with exceptional retention. It just slowly dissipates to a layer of eternal foamy crown along with plenty of refined yet sticky lacing patch and spot along the way, very good showcase.

The aroma is so hoppy with its fruity citrus, juicy, sharp lemon, tropical fruit, ripe mango, pine, resin, some earthy and some spice. Malt is there in the undertone with notes of bread and slight caramel.

The taste is quite balance with hop flavors at the upper layer ranging from citrus, lemon, mango, tropical fruit, pine, resin, earthy, spice, and moderate bitterness. Malt is at the lower layer with some sweetness, grain, and breadiness to partially balance the bitterness from hop.

Medium body with rather smooth mouthfeel and crisp carbonation through the palate, tons of carbonation sweeps through the palate with its numerous bubble waves, dry finish.

Yes, the Italian nailed it. Good American IPA offering from Birra Del Borgo, so, what are we waiting for?
