Sierrandipity from Sierra Nevada is an extra special bitter (ESB) that pours a deep amber color with a thin off-white head and sticky lace. Malt forward nose with hints of caramel and toffee meeting light citrus tones and just a touch of vanilla. The flavors mimic the nose with a touch of tea adding additional complexity on the palate. Medium-light in body and carbonation, this fantastically named brew is only on draft and supposedly pretty rare!
Cheers!

maybe the best esb ive ever had, on ta at cheeky monk on Colfax, this beauty pours a brown tinted pale yellow color, if that makes sense. almost looks like a lighter smoke beer, and has a smaller head, almost clear, very white. the nose is really interesting, pale malts, some wheat and some other English barley, but also a curious nutty aroma, like walnuts. the flavor is super nutty, sweeter, like a mix of walnuts and almonds, and there is a cocoa powder finish that sort of comes out of nowhere and is funny in this style. the malt body is very light, and there is very little residual sugar or alkalinity, two features that usually turn me off from the esb genre. this complexity of the flavors with the simplicity of ingredients is what I like the most about this beer. its also majorly sessionable at just over 5% abv, but this beer makes more sense to me in the fall context from a flavor standpoint, rather than in springtime. this was a landmark for me, and I am now open to trying all esbs, this was the first one ive really dug a lot. top notch.

On tap at Story Tavern in Burbank, CA.
Pours a murky orange-brown with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and spicy and citrus-like hop aromas. Taste is much the same with a malty flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of citrus zest bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is refreshing and easy to drink.
