My favorite style by far. I have not had the chance to try Hoptimum yet so this is the first IIPA I have ever tried from Sierra Nevada.
A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a one finger foamy light tan head. Extremely sticky lacing and good retention on the head.
S - Citrus, pine, and some light alcohol notes. Not as aromatic as one might expect. Grapefruit and tangerine with sweet malt in the background.
T - Pungent hops dominate the flavor. At first there is a blast of citrus hops (grapefruit, maybe apricot) followed by more piney, earthy hops. I always find that there are two major styles of IIPA: earthy/piney (think Southern Tier Unearthly) and fruity/citrusy (think Ithaca Flower Power). I am most intrigued by those IIPAs that combine the two styles into one, and that is what SN has done here. A bit boozy in the aftertaste is my only complaint, which becomes more pronounced as it warms.
M - Medium bodied and a bit slick/oily on the lips but perfectly carbonated.
O - Definitely a sipper for me, but an excellent representation of the style. I really really need to get my hands on some Hoptimum, this was well done.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours out a clear golden color with a two finger head that rapidly recedes back to a relatively stable 1cm lid, minimal lacing is left behind on the glass. Body and carbonation are on the lighter side of medium strength.
Smells of Pine resin, grapefruit, assorted citrus rind bouquet, and a touch of toffee malt. Tastes of a good even blend of citrus peel, some dank and resinous hopping, caramel malt, and lightly of Simcoe-styled onion / garlic combo. Has an aspirin / medicinal bittering finish with some rising heat from booze.
