At long last it has arrived in TN. I've been looking out for this beer for a while.

SN has managed to make an authentic hefe while making it eminently drinkable, something not all hefe's achieve. More on that later.

This has to be the cloudiest beer I've ever seen. All true hefe's are hazy but looking at this beer, I halfway expected to see chunks of yeast roiling in its murky depths...perhaps a baby Loch Ness monster.

The smell is yeasty with subtle hints of bubblegum and just a whisper of banana and cloves. This is reflected in the flavor as well.

Some hefe's I've tried will knock you down with bubblegum aroma and make you think you're drinking liquid Hubba Bubba. But the yeasty esters are nicely integrated in this SN brew, making it extremely quaffable. There is a slight dextrinous quality to the mouthfeel which gives it some much appreciated body....not that it's thick, just not watery as some lighter ABV brews are prone to being.

Appearance: Slightly hazy light golden hue with about a two finger white head. Followed the directions on the bottle when pouring to get some of the yeast in there.

Aroma: Light clove and a bit of banana. Some esters from the yeast. Not all that aromatic but pleasing.

Taste: Pretty much watery wheat in the first half before giving the palate some clove spice and the signature banana flavor that makes this style memorable. The finish is definintely the high point of the flavor and has a nice crispness to it. The cloves linger in the aftertaste. One dimensional but refreshing all the same.

Mouthfeel: Between thin and medium in body with good effervescence. A bit prickly because of the spice but highly drinkable and even sessionable if you like the style.

Final Thoughts: Although Kellerweis won't blow your palate away with flavor, it is still a good beer to enjoy on a hot summer day or as an aperitif. Yet another well done beer by Sierra Nevada. It's a tad pedestrian but definitely still craft. Would I drink it again? Yes, summer has only just begun.
