24oz bottle, poured into a goblet. Vintage 2011

A: A very gorgeous looking IPA. Pours a dark orange color with about 2 fingers worth of beige rocky head that takes it's time to reduce to a fine foamy ring. Leaving nice amounts of sticky lacing behind. Very nice...

S: Big juicy citrus notes. Grapefruit, some mango, then comes some pine, and caramel to balance it all out.

T: Taste is not bitter at all, I was expecting a bigger hop bite. Nevertheless, the bitterness is complemented by a nice malt backbone.

M: Medium bodied, biscuity mouthfeel, I'm not getting a lot of carbonation in this one. Maybe this bottle isn't the freshest. I would have liked it to finish a little drier, but otherwise it is a good IPA.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass, 2013 release. Beer pours a dark amber, slightly hazy, with three fingers of fluffy khaki colored head. A bit of carbonation here and there.

Nose isn't as hoppy as expected, more yeast ester fruity and caramel malt, combined with pine, grapefruit and green apple.

Taste is hop bitterness upfront, grapefruit and pine, mellowing to fruity ester and caramel. Citrus peel bitterness and spice lingers on the tongue.

Medium body, light carbonation, slick and oily on the tongue.

L: Deep, crystal clear amber with a big, fluffy off-white head. Excellent lacing and lots of carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass.

A: Spicy, grassy, apricot, and some fruitiness, nice biscuit and caramel maltiness as well. Very neutral fermentation character.

T/M: Moderate bitterness up front, moves into big some bright spicy/grassy hop notes with some apricot and tropical fruit. Big crackery malt backbone with some caramel sweetness, medium bodied mouthfeel with a nice crisp finish.

Overall, a very unique tasting IPA, utilizing NZ Motueka and Southern Cross hops on the finish. Kind of a hybrid between a german noble hop character and a more exotic NZ hop character. There is a pretty big malt balance to this beer, bringing it close to being a hopped up amber. Nevertheless, it is damn tasty.

P: A vivacious copper body with a bountiful creamy off white ice cream float head. Lace spread across the edges like a Victoria Secret catalog.

S: Citrus soap, cilantro stems, cedar chips, orange oil, lime leaves, coriander and black pepper. Sweet toasted caramel, pine, honey and hibiscus.

T/M: First sip is muted and thin with not much really standing out. Citrus hops begin to arrive and are accompanied by pilsner malt, herbal and floral hop present. The caramel base is not as sweet as the nose but the toasted aspect comes through. Delicate spices dance in the thin semi watered down body. Finish is dry and showcases the bitterness if the hops with lemon zest and strong brewed tea tannin.

O: A super fresh nice drinkable ale that delivers what it advertises. The mouthfeel is strange but the flavor is on point. I remember enjoying the Northern Hemisphere better.

Poured from a 24 oz. bottle into a Stone Cali-Belgie IPA glass

A - Pours a crystal-clear reddish amber. A clean pour produced two fingers of thick red-tinged head. Good lacing.

S - Bready caramel malts form the background for a tremendous amount of earthy and floral hop character. It's very dank and earthy, with some orange blossom and fresh-cut flower in there as well. This beer smells like it's going to be bitter, if that makes sense.

T - Not as much hop up front as I expected. Lots of bready cereal malts and roast hit you immediately. There's a hop punch that follows, but it's more understated than the nose would lead you to expect. What's there is solid, however. There's a lot of that dank earthy pine, and less of the sweet floral hop. Finishes very bitter with surprisingly little dryness.

M - Relatively light-bodied for the amount of flavor here. Good carbonation, good finish. Relatively unremarkable, but nearly perfect in its own way. It enhances the experience of the beer without taking center stage.

O - A fantastic introduction to wet hop ales. It's not too brash or in-your-face, and it hits all of the right notes. I wish the taste was a little more hop-forward, but the characteristics of a wet hop ale are all present and accounted for. Solid brew.

Clear golden with a frothy cream head that leaves sheets of lacing as it dissipates.

Almost lacquer-like aromas emerge initially, with skunky and catty notes complementing citrus and resin. There's a touch of onion and caramel malt.

Flavor is decidedly resiny and bready mid palate, finishing decidedly bitter. That amarillo umami character is present, and mint surfaces in the aftertaste.

Body is moderate to a touch light, with moderate carbonation and slight astringency.

Somewhat lacking in aroma hops, but the flavoring hops were interesting. Bittering hops definitely dominate. It's a little too bitter for my liking, but the mint finish helps. And the bitterness isn't as offputting as some.

A bomber purchased for $5.99. Poured into a chalice.

A good beer, an excellent beer for the price. Reminds me a bit of Firestone's Wookey Jack. A decent beer. One that I would be willing to drink again.

A - Pours a clear BRILLIANT dark amber with a half-finger of head, which quickly dissapates. Average lacing.

S - A sweet floral hoppiness with a bit of spiciness.

T - Barley maltiness, some slight carmel sweetness all balanced with a lasting bitter finish.

MF - A smooth creaminess quickly morphing into a sharp bitter finish.

Purchased and enjoyed the same weekend, May 2013. I’m assuming it was just released.

This pours a caramel auburn color with great cottony foam. There’s an aroma that’s slightly peppery with a somewhat earthy caramel note to it. Tastes of caramel and pine with some earthy peppery characteristics and a dry finish. The hops in this don’t “stick out” in the way I’d expect from a fresh-hopped ale, nor do they exhibit the vibrancy I’ve come to expect from Southern Hemisphere (New Zeeland) hops. Reminds me of a SNPA with more malt/caramel and an earthier hop character.
