First time I tried this stout I thought it was way over the top, gritty, too thick, and not well balanced. I like it better 2nd time around. I would now describe this as having a somewhat thick texture yet decent drinkability. Reasonable mile carbonation. Little creamy.

Nice appearance. Head dissipates rather fast.

The aromas are more like a bakers chocolate and well roasted grains.

The flavor is about what I would expect from Sierra. I get a little dry unsweetened baker's chocolate on the tongue, and more noticeable is the roasted grains. The roasted grains dominate like a french roasted coffee. I don't get too much sweetness. Sierra Stout does not have that malty sweet that I think makes a good stout. Quality? Yes. But bitter. More hoppy tasting.

If you like a beer on the dry bitter side, & "not so damn sweet," then you may very well enjoy SNS. I would play some west coast jazz with this. Hampton Hawes trio music would be a good choice. I can't say why. It just comes to mind.

-Appearance: Black in a pint glass, gray-ish white head. Leaves a scarce lacing but shimmers and dissipates nicely! Fun to look at.

-Smell: sweet malt, a bit nutty

-Taste: a bold malty flavor, semi bitter sweet chocolate and a hit of coffee.

-Feel: Eaaasy, but satisfying. I was going to say I wish it had more body but I resigned that thought, it was great! Smooth but stuck on my tongue like "hey fool, you know you wanna take another sip".

I quite enjoyed this, I would give this to a friend as an introduction stout, easy to drink with a full flavor. Thanks Sierra Nevada.

The SN Stout pours an almost opaque black with deep ruby highlights. It has a frothy clingy tan head that goes to a collar and displays a ton of lacing.

Its aroma is appealing as well - figs, chocolate, roasted malts with some bitter coffee notes.

The flavor is fruity figs, chocolate and vanilla up front, followed by a strong metallic, almost chalky, bitterness that kind of rubs me the wrong way. It is thinner than I would expect yet leaves a sticky bitter residue.

Overall, this is a nice stout. If not for the off finish (to me at least), this would be a great one.
