Served in a tulip glass at Cambridge Brewing Company.
Pearls of Wisdom pours a hazy orange, with about a finger's worth of white foam sitting atop the beer. There's not much in the way of head retention or lacing. The nose has some vanilla and dark fruit/port notes right up front. Some fruity white wine aromas from the Nelson Sauvin hops. The barrel aging jumps out right from the get go flavor wise, as some vanilla and oak are supported by a little bit of the port influence. The Nelson Sauvin white wine character is fairly prominent mid palate. A brief bit of grapefruit leads into a subtle wet hay brett finish. I just wish the hops were a little more subdued and let the other interesting flavors shine through some more. The body is nicely dried out and light, but I find the carbonation to be a little on the dull side. I definitely enjoyed my glass of Pearls of Wisdom, and I hope I see more breweries put out hoppy wild beers in the future. Another great offering from CBC.
