This stout pours an opaque black color. The head is thin, but sticks around as a beige ring. The aroma has strong notes of coffee, roasty malts, chocolate, and mild acidic hints.

A smooth and mild malt sweetness appears upfront hinting at chocolate, and persists throughout. The roasty flavors build towards the center and finish in a coffee bitterness that's slightly cut by sweetness. The oatmeal gives this stout a smooth mouthfeel that's medium-bodied and creamy.

There's a pretty strong, acidic coffee component to this beer, which knocks down the drinkability a hair.

Served in a tulip glass. Consumed 3/14/10
A) Poured with a thin brown head. Body is opaque. Lacing is thin and sticky.
S) Roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Hints of caramel.
T) Roasted coffee. Chocolate. Hint of hop bite toward the end and in the finish. Lingering roasted grain and hops in the after taste.
M) Full body. Gritty.
D) A delicious stout. The infusion of coffee is well balanced and adds robustly to the flavor.

On tap at Cambridge Brewing on 3/1/10.

A - Very dark brown espresso-colored liquid with reddish hues and one-finger creamy tan head that settled into a thin veil but yielded an intricate patchwork of lacing around the glass.

S - Smells like an iced mocha. Very authentic and rich coffee character with chocolate notes and light floral and herbal hop presence.

T - Roasted coffee beans and an apparent espresso character with plenty of bitterness courtesy of earthy, herbal hops and bitter dark chocolate. Finishes with an aggressive bitterness that blends dark chocolate, coffee beans, roasted malt and earthy hops.

M - Medium bodied with a robust mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Finishes quite dry with moderate bitterness on the palate.

D - Red Barn packs quite a complex coffee character with an assertive bitterness and authentic espresso flavor and aroma. Great stuff!

This beer pours a black body with a small white head.

Nose is pure fresh, un cracked, espresso or quality coffee beans.

Taste is med bodied and has an immediate big fresh coffee flavor. It definetly has some floral or even red wine like touches, but most perfect not over the top stout with amazing fresh better than starbucks type fresh coffee flavor. Damn this is good.

Damn this is good. It tastes like fresh non bitter coffee mixed with not overly bitter stout. An amazing beer.

Had on tap at the Cambridge Brewing Company brewpub on Saturday 02.27.2010. The menu stated that this was made with espresso beans from Red Barn Coffee in Massachusetts.

Poured a very dark, roasted black with a modest tan head and a bit of lacing as it went down. The aroma was of roasted malt and coffee, with slight hints of dark cocoa coming through. Taste was similar, with the roasted malts dominating. The coffee presence was definitely felt, but nothing completely overpowering like a few other coffee beers I've had. Mouthfeel was medium and slightly creamy. Good drinkability.
