Empire Summer Ale is a Pilsner Style Ale made with 100% German Pilsner malt, and German Noble hops. It has a crisp clean flavor, and finishes with a hint of citrus from dried lemon peel that was steeped in the brew after the boil.

Draft: Poured a light golden color ale with a small foamy head with light retention. Aroma consists of light semi-sweet cereal with very subtle notes. Taste is a mix between some floral malt with light notes of cereal. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not lemon notes were noticeable and taste is kind of middle of the road blonde ale.

On tap into a standard pint @ Empire Brewery, in Syracuse
Appearance (3.0): Very light gold, ½-1 finger white head with no lacing to speak of. The body of this beer is clear as can be, not even a hint of cloudiness.
Smell (4.0): A lightly sweet, malty presence actually comes out first, followed quickly by a relatively tame lemon scent; both of these sit alongside the kind of grassy, slightly herbal hops that Empire loves so much.
Taste (3.5): Starts off with bitter grassy / herbal hops, moving to a somewhat tart, lemony finish, with just a bit of lightly sweet, biscuity malt underneath. Very crisp, very light. Aftertaste is moderate lemon and biscuit, followed up by some more grassiness. As for the yeast presence, it is remarkable neutral—that is to say, hardly any to speak of.
Mouthfeel (4.5): Very Light and crisp with a dry finish. Good effervescent bubbles all the way back on the tongue for the duration of the drink, really a lot of fun!
Overall (4.0): Quaffable as shit, but the grassy hop profile stops you from really draining it too fast (and that’s not a bad thing, by any means). It’s good, very light and crisp and summer-y, so from that perspective they did a great job. Tasty, and a decent session beer, but I’d more likely go back for the ESPA.

On tap at the brewpub. Per Tim, this is a varietal using one hop variety, and with this beer he used Hallertau hops.
Pours a semi-hazy corn yellow hue with a one finger bright white head. Decent amount of stick holds on to the sides of the glass. Smell is actually a bit weak. Some lemon zest and a touch of wheat. Hallertau hops all around in the nose as well, very lager-esque. Taste begins crisp with citrus and grassy flavors. Midway the Hallertau hops emerge with some German malts. Aftertaste is fairly sweet with a floral tingle and some honey. Body is light to medium with a full bubbly carbonation in the mouth. Definitely a solid, drinkable summertime brew. The cold conditioning and use of all Hallertau hops makes you think you're drinking a pilsener, but the ale yeast clearly tells you the opposite. I have a feeling I'll be drinking a lot of this come Empire Brewfest in a month.
