Appearance has a light copper amber color with a head that's not heavy leaving spotty lace. Smell having a caramel malt backbone with a citrus, piney hop aroma. Taste of the sweet caramel malt, citrus grapefruit, piney that follows through to the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium with good carbonation. I can understand having a big hop profile in an Imperial, but maybe more of an aromatic hop rather than a bittering to bring more of a balance with the malt.

Undated bomber ($10 via microbeerclub.com) poured into Sam Adams glass.
A: Light amber with a slight rose hue, most noticeable in the wide portion of the glass. Strong head retention with a creamy, thick foam of a bit over 2 fingers width. After a few sips the head gives way to a stiff, trabecular foam.
S: Citrus up front with a sweet floral aroma shortly following. Hints of spice and nuts.
T: Like with the aroma, there's a lot of citrusy hoppiness - very much a grapefruit presence with a spicy bite from the hops, and malty sweetness in the background. The alcohol presence is low despite 8% ABV. Aftertaste is sweet, with a dry hoppy bitterness.
M: A bit heavier than I was expecting, but not completely out of style for a double IPA. A little low on the mouth feel of carbonation, despite the great head retention.
O: Decent double IPA, but too heavy / sweet for my taste. I have a second bottle in my cellar, but I won't be buying it again.

Pours grapefruit coloured body with enormous foam pouring from my large Sam Adams glass. Mildly grapefruit hoppy aroma. Big IBU, biased toward bitter than malt. Somewhat palate erasing.Good drinking, with a little booziness in the aftertaste. Thanks for hooking me up, Steve.

Pours nicely into nonic. Abundant head. Nice citrus notes on the nose. Pine and citrus overflow and dominate the palate. A very aggressive West Coast IIPA that is a worty representative of the style.
Not readily available at the stores for whatever reason. Purchased at the brewery. Will definitely snag again when I see it.

Served in a 16 oz. snifter. Thanks Duff27.
A- Dark golden, orange. 2" thick off-white head with good amount of lacing that remains on the glass. Some sediment dispersed throughout the beer.
S- Sweet malts, orange, grapefruit
T- Has nice sweet malt taste, lots of citrus fruits (mainly orange and grapefruit like aroma) and big orange peel bitterness.
M- Medium body. Slightly dry and bitter aftertaste.
O- Decent DIPA. Would have this again. A little bit more of a harsh bitter bite that is balanced enough with the malts or sweet citrus flavors.

Pours a bright orange. Thin white head. Aroma was citrus, grapefruit, alcohol and bitterness.
Taste was just average, high bitterness, not a lot of hop mouthfeel. Substantial alcohol heat on it. This style of dipa is fairly a dime a dozen. Long hop boil, high alpha acid, but almost no dry hopping. Decent pricing on it.
A little bit of citrus lingers around the tongue, but its primarily just bitterness and alcohol heat that gets delivered here. Could use more caramel to soak up the alcohol.
Not recommended unless you're looking for a tick or a relatively cheap buzz.

Clear orange amber, thin tan head with okay retention. Boozy sweet citrus aroma. Strong citrus hop up front mellows quickly to barley caramel sweetness. Moderate warming and moderately-low hop linger. Smooth, thin feel.
Very balanced DIPA, not too complex, just hops barley and alcohol. Ultimately a fairly boring high alcohol beer that’s enjoyable because nothing’s objectionable.

A- Nice inch-tall fluffy white head on a hazy reddish orange beer. Above average head retention and great clumptastic lacing.
S- A sweet bouquet of citrus fruits right from the pop of the cap. Very nice.
T- Holy smokes! Follows the nose, which is a good thing. Huge grapefruit component. The perfect amount of malt sweetness balanced with a bitterness that looms in the mouth well after each sip. Well hidden alcohol to boot.
M- Medium mouthfeel, good prickly carbonation.
D/O- To say I am pleasantly surprised with this Scuttlebutt offering would be an understatement. Let's face it, an "A-" rating in the DIPA style on BeerAdvocate doesn't translate into "top of class" but in this case it is fully warranted. Definitely worth the pick-up if it crosses your path.

1 Pint, 6 FL OZ. bottle into tulip glass.
A - Pours semi-cloudy dark-golden, carmel color, with a kind of weak white head...- some good lacing.
S - Hops and lots of sweet citrus - some orange & grapefruit tones with some pressence of pine-spice...
T - Booming with hops and pine flavor! Smooth & Bright! A great hop kick at the top, followed by some citrus, then ending with more pine-like spices...Pleasant & refreshing!!
M - Great carbonation! There's a good fullness. Present, but not 'too' much fruity/sweet flavors...The final pine/spice balances the beer out wonderfully!
O - This one is great!! How can this beer come from the same brewery that brewed Gail Force IPA…Gail Force Yuk, Hoptopia, YUM!!! I was surprised by the cloudy-dark 'unfiltered' look. Much darker than the typical IPA... I think what make this beer so good is the fine line of not over-doing 'it' in any particular area (hops, fruity-flavor, pine/spice, carbonation, and last but not least, alcohol level). VERY refreshing and will get again and...…Goin’ to look for a tap ASAP!!!

I bought a bomber of Hoptopia in a grocery store. Poured into a pint glass.
Pours a hazy gold color, with chunks of solid stuff (yeast probably) suspended in the glass. Creamy one-finger head has little retention, but leaves a few rings of lace on the glass.
Smell is a faint fruit aroma, citrus and a hint of a dairy scent like sweet ice cream.
Taste is OK, a malt flavor up front with a dry bitter gain flavor and a hint of citrus (grapefruit) on the finish.
Mouthfeel is light for the style, with a slightly cloying character.
Overall a poor representation of the IIPA, and an average beer.

Poured a murky orange-amber into a tulip with a finger of off-white head and lots of yeasty floaties. Aroma of juicy grapefruit and tangerine.
Generous carbonation and a full, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet caramel, orange, and grapefruit up front followed by biscuit and a long pine bite on the finish.
Really solid and exceptionally balanced with big hop and malt flavors. Higher ABV is pretty well-hidden -- very easy-drinking.

22oz bottled poured into a 22oz mug
Pours somewhat cloudy amberish color with nice big head, good retention and lots of active carbonation. Smell is spicy hops, overripe oranges, hefty bread.
Taste is a terrific bitterness (lots of the grapefruit rindy-ness), some nice flowery sweetness, lots of delicious malt.
Mouthfeel is thick and chewy. Overall, quite nice beer.

What a deal this was....$6.50 at Winco Foods.
Dark amber in color
Smells somewhat like fruitcake.
Taste is perfectly balanced between sweet and bitter.
In spite of the name, this isn't a super hoppy beer, but a hop lover should be able to appreciate it.
This beer would definitely be on my "go-to" list every time I see it at this price.

Haven't reviewed in a while....saw only 7 reviews on this which inspired me. Plus, I had one in the fridge.
A- A nice solid dark orange, not very clear but looks tasty to me. Probably my favorite look to an ipa. Fairly small head, but holding on for the whole glass.
S- Little bit of alcohol, tons of resiny hops. Piney and a little tropical.
T- Just what I was hoping for. A little bit of alcohol twang and malty sweetness, quickly washed away by big, bitter, juicy, resinous hoppiness. So good. I just love the huge hops without being ridiculously bitter/harsh. Just a deliciously smooth DIPA.
M- Slightly light, oily. Perfect in my opinion. I'm sure some people would prefer a little more sweetness and thickness.
O- Hopefully The Beer Authority will keep this in stock, and Scuttlebutt keeps on brewing it. At $4.89/bomber, I can't think of much better DIPA options available regularly. (assuming this will be available regularly)

A: Poured a golden orange color with good carbonation and a nice white cap
S: Lighter citrus notes, some tropical fruit and hint of floral notes
T: A very fruity taste to it; blends of nice tropical fruit, light pine, flowers and a dash of orange peel.
M: A little slick, good amount of booze, not really a full body but it is a hop bomb with great taste
D: Very good.
