12 oz bottle with a 2019 BB date stamp.
Pours with a dark reddish-brown body and a semi-durable off-white head.
Aroma: Dark bread and toffee.
Flavor: moderate strength for style. Sweet up front and mild bitterness by the finish.

Poured into an Ayinger pint glass. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin, off-white head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of caramel and biscuit malt, lemon citrus and a touch of molasses. Flavor is dark biscuit malt, cocoa, raisin, with a hint of licorice and banana. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nice malty dunkelweizen with interesting light chocolate and licorice notes. Drier than a traditional dunkel, with a profile tending towards an old ale. That's a style I like quite a bit and I liked this as well. Not sure why it does not receive much love here (perhaps because it was originally listed as a hefeweizen, which it does not match), but I found this to be a great malty winter ale. I'll be getting this again.

From a bottle into a pint glass. Dense dark brown auburn color. Lacy head with pretty good retention. Mostly grain on the nose. Grain and some bock- like sweetness taste wise. Smooth feel, the finish is a little boozy. This is a unique and well done winter warmer.

Look: The beer pours dark brown with a light brown head.

Smell: The aroma have some maillard products. There are also aromas of roast, wheat, low levels of dark fruit, and a hint of smoke.

Taste: The flavors are highlighted by roast and wheat with a low level of chocolate. There are also flavors of dark fruit.

Feel: It has a moderate feel to it with the roast and chocolate more prominent in the aftertaste. It has a slight alcohol warming effect.

Overall, this is a wheat and roast driven beer with some fruit and other flavors in the background.

22 oz. bottle:

Pours brown with a fluffy tan head that leaves spotted trailing lace sticking down the glass.

The smell is of roasted (burnt?) caramel, overripe chocolate-covered bananas, booze-soaked fig.

The taste is of sweet booze, some licorice, fig, steely caramel. Some leafy bitterness comes through in the finish.

A bit fizzy but it holds together.

The taste is a bit harsh. Alcohol shows. Not a great example of the style, and I wasn't too impressed with the beer overall. But, it's still a decent brew, I suppose.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a damn near black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of dark fruits, spices. Taste is nothing like the aroma. Cocoa, smokey, roasted malts. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a bit different for the style, but an enjoyable beer.

12oz bottle.

A: Dark brown. No foam.
S: Coconut. Mildly roasted.
T: Medium roasted flavor. Coconut. Peanut. Medium bitterness. Dry.
M: Medium low body. Creamy.
O: People seems to dislike it because it is not very similar to authentic dunkelweizen or weizenbock. And yes the overall characters are more like dry stouts. However I saw it is a specialty with average quality.

Scuttlebutt Brewing Company "10˚ Below"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, coded but not freshness dated

I was confused by "10 Below" when I first poured it. I was expecting a rich and full-bodied winter ale but what I got, although flavorful, was neither rich nor malty. I'd call it medium bodied at best, leaning towards the lighter side of the scale; and nicely chocolatey and fruity with berries, apple, raisin, and some background citrus, but not rich.

Without looking I assumed it was an English-style brown ale/winter warmer (it is 7.4% ABV), and when I found out via their website that it was supposed to be an "Imperial Dunkleweiss" I was quite surprised. Looking at it in that sense I do detect what could be some green banana and a hint of clove, and the gently caramelish and cocoa-like "dunkel" malt is there, but there's also some leafy and earthy hops that certainly don't fit. And less face it, without a solid carbonation it just doesn't cut it as a weizen - this has the mouthfeel of a sparkler-pulled cask ale!

So... how to rate it? I actually like the beer, but I don't think it's really done to style. I'll forgo the style guidelines this time and just go at it hedonistically as Michael Jackson once told me something along the lines of (sorry, he could be really hard to understand at times) "Not every beer is intended to be to style. Until recently there were no "styles", it was just beer".
