Mahogany appearance with an average size beige head and good lacing. Subtle aroma of roasted malts, coffee and just a touch of smoke and chocolate. Earthy, bitter, coffeeish taste. Medium bodied mouthfeel with a bit more carbonation than I prefer in my porters. Dry, average length finish.

This starts well, with a huge dark tan head and cocoa and caramel themed nose. The flavor is more balanced than usual for a porter, with hop bitterness mostly neutralizing the dark malt and coffee flavors you would expect. Texture is a bit thinner for the style as well. The result is kind of a boring, "meh" porter, or an exciting, complex schwarzbier.

This one says 5.5% alcohol. From the large, soon to expire, bottle, it pours a nice brown color with a modest head that slowly dissipates and leaves lacing. In the nose, it is light caramel and roasted malt. In the mouth, it is very pleasant lightly roasted malt flavor. Nice!

I've never had a porter like this. Overly carbonated with a tangy, almost tart character. There's just no depth to this. There's something odd in the flavor profile of this that I can't put my finger on. Porters are a pretty straight forward style, and I've had many good ones. This ain't one of them.

A huge, four-inch, frothy chestnut head turns rocky while settling to one-half inch. This Porter is black with dark cola highlights and spotty lace in a Cisco pint glass.
The aroma is soapy with a background of malted chocolate and a hint of roasted malt.
Mild chocolate syrup opens, followed by light roasted malt. Cola flavors, maybe subliminally induced, but are present. The finish is long and modest.
A medium body with nylon texture. High carbonation and alcohol as expected.
This is an okay beer once one gets past the aroma, and would be enjoyable after work with friends.

Pours a dark mahogany with moderate head.
Smell is light sweet malts. Faint chocolate odor.
Taste is sour and bitter. It overpowers the vague coffee/chocolate taste.
Thin and watery.

Pours a brown color with a lot of rising bubbles, and a frothy, lingering three-finger head. Aromas and flavors of chocolate. Nothing too complex, but a solid, well-done porter.
