Coming in a clear 500ml bottle, filtered. BB 26/11/2006, served cool in a straight imperial-pint glass. The beer label suggests that the beer is brewed partly to contribute to a charity in the South West England, "The Pirate Trust".
A: dark amber hue, coming with a thick and tightly frothy off-white head; a lively and constant carbonation gradually turns softly fizzy in the end.
S: slightly sulphury when popping open the bottle, followed by profoundly creamy and bread-crust like maltiness and richly fruity hops, with assertive hints of buttery orange-cake, juicy longan-fruits, and a rich sweet flowery and freshly-mown grassy hoppy base underneath. Very pleasant.
T&M: a slightly tangy edge of dried citrus/orange-peels, bitter-sweet taste of lychee-fruits (on skins), bitter-ish nuts, and grassy+flowery hops buttress a chewy and juicy toffeeish malty overtone; pretty light finish with a restrained amount of hop bitterness to entertain at the back of the palate, but the texture remains quite clean and refreshing, tasting much milder than a 5.2%abv. strong ale tends to suggest.
D: medium-bodied pale ale with a pleasant hop profile and soft but juicy malty palate--an approachable pale ale that could've tasted even better when bottle-conditioned?
