On-tap at Lord Hobo in Cambridge, MA.

Pours a hazy golden color with a bright white head that leaves solid lacing.

Smells of crisp light malts with good amounts of floral hops and hints of white pepper and musty hops.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though not as clean. Mildly dry light malts up front are joined quickly by pepper-like spices and hints of light fruits. Midway through musty and leafy hops come into play, carrying through to a moderately bitter ending. Mouthfeel is good, with active carbonation.

Overall this was a very crisp and tasty beer for such a low ABV with regard to the style. Well worth a shot.

I saw this at the Sahara Mart in Bloomington, IN and remembered it was on my Wants list. To be honest, I can’t remember why I wanted it, but I’m sure past me had a good reason to; I trust that guy.

Brewed a year and a half ago: label reads “Bottled July 2011” over the barcode.

A: This one has fizzy, clean gold body and a beautiful head standing three fingers high: a dense offering of white foam. Great frothy retention with loads of chunky lacing as it settles.

S: Sweet, lemony, funky – the herbal, hopped-up aroma that spells this style out to a T. Spicy pepper and drying esters compound with grainy pale malt and crisp ginger ale in a rush of Belgian complexity, all within an environment of mild farmhouse earthiness.

T: Intense hopping makes this a palate with a punch: lemon juice with floral notes and a touch of pine refresh wholeheartedly throughout. Crisp cracker and bread crust flavors of the malts keep it light, too, never getting very sweet or thick; this one seems to be all about refreshment, as the label mentions. It’s not spice or herb intensive, but those flavors are still there, distracting slightly from the bitter nature of the hops. Finishes with a grassy grapefruit tone, green and astringent.

M: Thin, refreshing, and dry all-around, a light texture that would be perfect on a hot day. Lovingly fizzy, too: great for the style.

O: This is one hell of a refreshing saison; I’d take six of these over a number of American pales as a summertime beer. Still don’t know why I had this on the Wants list, but I’m glad I was directed to this one.

Pale yellow with some head. No lace.

Light grain and some yeast in the nose. Wanted some must and dust and got none.

Light grain, some sweetness and a little spicy bite, but not much else. A little sour in the finish.

Fizzy and medium-light in body.

I wouldn't drink this again. Not a great version of the style.

Pours a see through very light golden hue which leaves a two finger head and lacing here and there and to be honest it looks average for the style im not used to this look, the smell is a little better with grassy herbal hops, buckwheat,a touch of spice and honey, the mouthfeel is above light bodied and sessionable with tastes of lemon zest, herbal grassy hops,a touch of spice, green tea and the finish is dry and a little tart but to be honest overall its a let down for me and i would not buy this again cheers.

Impressive four-finger head. Settles in a rocky fashion with lots of chunky lace on the glass. Hazy, but otherwise a golden color.

Mildly sour like older milk. Clean smell. Notable alcohol to the nose.

The smell continues into the taste. Slightly sour, and relatively thin body. Lighter malt up front. The swallow is spritzy and sour with a good dose of bitter hop.

22oz bottle

A - extremely light yellow body, with a fast forming pure white head (not surprising given the "pop" I got when taking off the cap)

S - spicy, rustic yeast, lemon, slight funkiness - smells pretty amazing

T - unfortunately the great aroma doesn't carry over completely to taste. while the lemon and slight spiciness is there, this really leaves a bit to be desired. not a lot of malt flavor, very light tasting. There is some nice hop flavors and assertive bitterness at the end though.

M - again, not much body here and I think this really detracts a lot from the beer. Coupled with a high level of carbonation, even for a saison, makes a beer that comes across too light for me.

A good saison, but it really suffers from being too thin.

I'm not sure any other brewing area has embraced the saison revival as much as Massachusetts. Pretty Things, Mystic, Notch, Backlash, Cambridge, Cisco etc... are all producing solid examples of the style. Now to try High and Mighty's version.

Appearance: Pours from a 22oz bottle with a bubbly active finger head. The foamy head is pure white. The body is a straw, faintly cloudy yellow.

Aroma: Lemon rinds, yeast, and a faint pepper.

Taste: The aroma carries right over to the taste. Nice fruit flavor up front rounded out by yeast, with a bit of spice at the end.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is very high. This is borderline too effervescent even for the style.

Overall: Very impressive saison. Saisons are meant to be session beers, and this beers nice rounded flavor and smell combined with its low ABV fits nicely. Its a good time to be a saison fan in Massachusetts.

22 oz bottle poured into a goblet.

Pours a very pale gold; it is very clear, clean, and effervescent. A big head tops it off, but it doesn't linger terribly long.

The nose is spicy very fragrant with lots of cloves and hops. Fresh and bright with bits of pepper, this is a traditional Saison aroma, but done very well.

The taste is herbal, flowery, with a little bit of lavender lurking in the background. Bready, biscuity, and yeasty. Dry, but not too dry, it is almost a little astringent: upon swallowing, the flavor is nearly immediately sucked out of my mouth and leaves a little puckering on my tongue. A peculiar tootsie roll finish rounds it out.

Overall a very nicely done Saison. The low ABV is an absolute plus: flavor and character remain uncompromised, and one can enjoy several without ill effect.

The thing I like most about H+M beers is that they are politely understated. This one has enough peppery-yeasty density to qualify as a saison but it doesn't hit hard with the hops; instead, it's full of lemony taste that satisfies without being too dry. Almost qualifies as a summertime pounder. A good atheist beer for all good atheists!

I had this on tap at the Sierra Grille in Northampton Massachusetts, $3 for an 8oz pour. The beer is crystal clear, pale gold color, with the thinnest layer of foam possible. Nice aroma, grassy and grainy. I'm guessing Saaz hops but could be wrong.

Nice flavor, similar to my recollection of Hennepin but a little more bitter. Sort of simple but not bad. Medium-thin body, easy drinking but kind of unremarkable. Recommended I guess, but not at the expense of other saisons.
