This beer pours a dark black body with a foamy tan head, everything a stout should look like. The aroma is roasted malts, baked bread, yeast esters with a hint of hop fruittyness. The baked bread/fresh yeast esters are a bit overwhelming. Taste is dark roasted malt with more hop bitterness and citrus flavor than normal for the style, this is all good though but there is a yeasty ester edge, same as the smell that I'm just not digging in this beer. Mouthfeel is medium thick. Drinkability is average, I had no problems finishing the 22 oz bottle but I don't think I'd want more than one.

Poured into a tulip at bottleworks.
Pours black with a small tan head.
Gives off a rich espresso aroma.
Lots of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruits in the taste, very rich.
Powerful mouthfeel, smooth and creamy with a slight bitter finish.
Overall, it’s a very drinkable imperial stout. Sure there are betters out there, but it’s a nice local brew.

Poured a dark black, hints of ruby with a frothy one finger dark tan head that faded quickly, leaving light lacing.
Aroma of roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate with hints of dark fruit and alcohol.
Taste started surprisingly sweet with chocolate, dark fruits transitioning into a nice dark roasted malt ending with a slight bitterness and hints of black licorice. The alcohol was present but not overwhelming.
Mouth Feel was medium body with moderate carbonation, smooth, slightly sticky and a slight alcohol warming.
Overall a nice enjoyable Russian Imperial Stout to enjoy with desert or to sit back and relax with..

22oz bottle into a tulip. Pours pitch black w/ minimal tan head that quickly settles to a thin film.
Aroma is bitter and roasty, with some earthy/nutty notes of dark fruit.
Taste follows nose. Dark roasted malt, bitter chocolate. Good balance, alcohol is concealed well.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, balanced.
Overall a solid imperial stout, but nothing superlative. Just a good, well-crafted beer.

A gorgeous pour, pitch black with a 2 finger head of billowy foam that brings some good lacing.
The smell is of a very Malt forward Imperial Stout, bits of chocolate here and there, some roast, and a hint of dark fruits.
Big notes of sweet and dark chocolate kick things off, fairly light on roasted malt, a goodly amount of coffee, especially in the finish and the aftertaste. I don't get any dark fruit in the taste but I reckon it doesn't need any.
I really like this and it's very drinkable with the smooth overall mouthfeel I get from it. I'm too pleased to have had a chance to try it. You should too.

Very nice pour. Dark. Near black.
Mouthfeel, taste, in a word: smooth. Flavors and individual notes are somewhat muted. Can't make out much. I only know that I like it a lot. It is one of those beers that defy analysis. Just sit back and enjoy.
A lot.

Thanks to 5000 for sending me this bottle.
The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of roasted malt and chocolate, with the added bonus of having some dark fruit and a little bit of anise mixed in. All of the components go well together.
The flavor is full of milk chocolate and heavily roasted malts. I also get a little bit of alcohol which accentuates the big, bold flavors present in this beer.
Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Skagit River Brewery Trumpeter IRS
Deep dark brown with medium brown foamy head with poor retention and lacing. Muddy chocolate aroma. Chocolate and alcohol with roasted malts dominating. Dirty floral finish with strong alcohol warming. Foamy mouthfeel with light mouthcoating and stickiness.
There is an unidentifiable flavor from the combination of flavors that is somewhat interesting. It's good but not terribly complex. I did start to like the earthy flavor though it could be just the alcohol. Overall it's a pretty basic IRS.

Pours black with tan head, head doesn't linger but a nice crust of brown lacing remains. Smell is sweet roast and chocolate, some fruity yeast esters. Taste is bitter coffee roast, dark chocolate with a dry character. Mouthfeel is thick, however carbonation is high. Pleasant RIS indeed, I have another 22 to see how it ages.

Thanks to ScreamForMe for this one from my SS09 haul.
A-Opaque black with ruby hints, a good frothy head and some nice sticky lacing.
S-Bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malt and some toffee. Very nice.
T-Very tasty indeed. Sweet up front with dark chocolate rolling into a caramel sweetness. A nice roastiness takes over midway with a nice hoppiness in the finish and a bit of licorice.
M-Medium bodied, well carbonated but still smooth.
D-I liked this one alot. Not familiar with the brewery before this but I need to change that.

22oz bottle poured into a 22oz mug
Pours black or very dark chocolate with a big, thick, slowly fading dark beige head, pretty decent lacing. Smell is primarily alcohol with some cherry sweetness.
Taste is way too sweet. It's hard to detect much else, but there's some cherry taste to it and a smokey aftertaste which isn't bad, but still overwhelmed by the sweetness.
Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. Sweetness seriously detracts from the drinkability. I don't hate this beer, it's decent, but I wish I was splitting it with someone.
