Very friendly staff.
They will answer all your questions over the phone and are very nice.
Not a bad variety of beer for a place that mostly does wine and liquor.
Got a bunch of enjoy by ipa here last year and some other hard to find beers.
I go back occasionally to see what's new.

As a matter of convenience this is the place I go to get beer. They are more of a wine place but they are expanding their beer selection pretty regularly. The staff is not very knowledgeable about beer but there are prominent displays of BA ratings on some of the things and they are generally honest. There is the 4x4 rack in the center, a half wall along the back and the requisite coolers along one wall for those who just have to have beer cold.

It would be nice if they would get more local stuff in. They do sell singles, which is great if you want to try something. They will special order for you also.

Overall a nice store. Place is clean, we'll organized, and staff is both friendly and helpful.

Store is roughly one third hard liquor, one third wine, and one third beer. The beer is in 3 sections.

First section is four or five coolers with mass market, and widely available craft selections. Most if these are offered in 4, 6, of 12 pack only.

Second section is a mix of 12 oz bottles on wire shelves. One side is mostly Belgians like Chimay, St. Bernardus, Westmalle, Rochefort, etc. One side is a mix of German and other imports. The other two sides are a mix of domestic craft with decent choices from Founders, Bouelvard, Great Divide, Terrapin, etc. Almost everything in this section is available in singles and priced competitively with 4 and 6 pack prices.

Third section is against the back wall and consists of all larger format bottles and bombers. This is relatively new to Alabama, but they have a decent selection to start off.

This is one of my favorite stops in town. There are a few other places with a bit more variety, but these guys have good prices and a nice store.

A: Your usual liquor store but this one is a little nice and upscale than others in there area.

Q: The quality is meh. The best I found was Founders Old Curmudegeon. I did not buy any beer here so I a not exactly sure if the product is skunked.

S: Ok. Greeted when I walked ina nd then let me be.

S: Probably 100 different bottles to choose from in the way of six packs and singles but there was nothing mindblowing here. Like I mentioned, one or two Bells offerings and two Founders offerings. A standard lineup I can get at any grocery store or amateur bottleshop. I probably would not conider this a beer destiantion. How this place receives A ratings I will never know.

Stopped by here while spending a couple days in Huntsville.

They had a very large selection of beer. There can't be that many places in Alabama with a better selection. There was a large four sided display with at least 6 shelves on each side with singles and four packs of high gravity beers. Two sides were largely dedicated to Belgians. The other two were mostly American craft beers and half a side of German bocks, doppelbocks and sticke & doppelsticke alts. Great selection! From this I brought home some:
Ayinger Celebrator
NC Old Rasputin
Bell's Expedition Stout, and
Great Divide Hibernation Ale

They also had 5 or 6 glass cooler doors dedicated to craft beer. From here I picked up a 4 pack of Yazoo's Hop Project #19. In this area there was lots of good stuff but mostly stuff I've seen in other places many times before. This was the first of the Hop Projects that have been for sale in Alabama though, so I jumped on it like a fly on . . .

The folks were nice here. Very helpful.

Prices were mostly reasonable compared to my regular haunts. Higher on some beers, lower on others. Maybe a few more on the higher end than lower end. Great place that I'd go to again.

I'm from Huntsville. This store used to have a decent selection in comparison to most stores in the area, but they have really lost their dedication to having a good varied selection. Stuff goes out of stock and doesn't return often, they add a very select few new beers that enter the market. They are limited by the shelf space they provide for beer.

The best part about this store is the singles prices. Every beer above 6% ABV is offered as a single and the prices if added up never equal more than $0.50 over the 4/6pk price. You can't beat having the option of picking up just 1 to try with out your wallet taking the blow.

You literally can't walk in here without getting an offer for help. Some of the employees aren't as knowledgeable of the beer selection as they mainly focus on wine, but their is always one person working that can help you with a decision. Also, they offered to put a 4pk of Harpoon Leviathan aside for me when they got it in, as I had come in a couple times with no luck.

Stopped in the other day to see what was available. They have a shelf dedicated to high gravity beers, but nothing really unique or special. Mostly IPAs. The shelf was mostly empty though.

The prices were about 25% more than anywhere else for the same thing (if you can find it in the area). Hammerknockers on Moore's Mill road had a similar selection at lower prices. I'll have to stop back by and pay closer attention to what all they have though.

They mostly sell wine and liquor. As long as your hopes aren't too high when you walk in, then you will probably enjoy it. I'd still rather drive up to Woody's Smokes and Brews in Cool Springs though!

So, any beer place in Alabama is going to receive fairly low scores, but I will be objective given the bass ackwards state laws. Now, the guys and gals at www.freethehops.org are doing their part but the Bible wielding masses have won, for now.

Anyway, Great Spirits has a decent selection but not the best in Huntsville. I lived here for two years and I frequented Great Spirits, although my favorite has to be the various Windmill Beverage shops. I would guess that a lack of space is the only thing keeping them from having more beers stocked. They do have a fairly well selected variety of micros as well as some Sake, which is not easy to find in AL.

Went here after hearing about it on BeerAdvocate looking for some Harpoon. I was standing perusing the stock on the shelves when the guy behind the counter came by to offer some suggestions. We talked beer for a while and he proved himself to be very knowledgable and helpful.

They have the beer divided up by country and region. Some of the brewers of note that I noticed was Bridgeport, Flying Dog, Mackeson, Young's, Sammy Smith, Harpoon, etc. There were about 5 coolers and some beer on shelves with only a couple of racks in one of the coolers devoted to BMC. Lots of imports and microbrews.

Their main business is in wine and that makes up 65 to 70% of the store but beer is well represented.
