Had this on 2011-06-10 at Cobblestones in York, PA.
A - Clear straw with a 1-finger white head and very light lacing.
S - Not much of anything
T - Distinctive. Cat pissy but not in a good way. Medium roasted palt. Some grapefruit rind. Bitter finish.
M - Light body and medium carbonation. Creamy.
O - Not a fan of this brew. It has a unique taste from the fuggles hops I suppose, but not a flavor I appreciate.

On tap at Callahan's, San Diego.
Pours a hazy copper-amber color. Minimal off-white head with a light film. Very light aroma. The taste is a bit unusual for an IPA. Lots of malts and hops, fairly well-balanced, with some apple, pear, and a lot of buttery flavor as well. Slightly bitter aftertaste. The beer is slippery-smooth for an IPA; medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink with a moderate IPA, but the flavor is a bit much after a while. Enjoyable, but I probably wouldn't do more than one at a time.

A: Had on-tap at Three Dollar Dewey's. Poured a dark golden color, very clear, with an average-sized, white head. Some fair lacing going on.
S: The aroma, however, is quite bland. Ok, there's a slight hint of hops, but I can't detect anything else.
T: Some light citrus flavors and some light hoppiness, but overall it's pretty weak for an IPA. The bitterness in the finish increases a bit as the beer warms, but it's still one of those IPAs that you can't help but feel was made for the masses.
M: Light-bodied, slightly creamy, with a carbonation that borders on fizzy.
D: It's not a bad beer, just a boring one. Not a good representation of the style at all.

I quite liked this IPA, but it looks like I'm at odds with most people here. Hazy orange body with a sticky white head that laced well. Grapefruit, spice and brown sugar in the aroma. Not really a classic IPA taste, and more skewed towards the malts, with the grapfruit hops only coming in at the end. There's a pleasant earthiness to the whole affair. Kind of matches my expectations of an English IPA. Medium bodied with high carbonation, and pleasantly drinkable.

Came to the table with a small head that didn't really stick around. Color was golden, looked like a good lager (it's an IPA though). Smelled of mild hops, some malt going on-- not very strong compared to other IPAs I've had. Drank nicely, but without a very complex flavor. Overall, okay flavor (would like to see some more floral and hop bitterness) but very drinkable for an IPA. Went down pretty easy and fairly quickly. Good.

I had this one on tap at the blue Trout Grill in Keene, NH. This was also my very first IPA I ever had way back 1998.
This one is a clear golden-honey color with a wonderful creamy, thick all-white head that is much better formed when served on-tap. The retention was VERY slow for an IPA. a good looking brew.
The aroma is very nice, big-time herbalness, all spice and a slight spiciness in the hop with a mellow but noticable bready malt. The hop aroma is pretty pungent concidering I was a good foot away from it when I first caught a whiff.
From the tap this stuff is damn impressive. a rich, hardy, herbal, spiciness is abundant...a wonderful overall hop flavor that just seems to go down REAL easy. The malt balance is good too, a nice mellow, buttery-bready malt adds just the right balance. After work the two I had went down FAST. also paired very well with the BBQ Chicken sandwich I had.
This one being on-tap made it feel luxurious IMO, a wonderful creamy and smooth edge from the constant head mellowed out the nice big, crisp bite. Light to medium feel overall.
This one is not fruity, no pineapple or big cascade, west-coast style bite, just a very drinkable, herbal and spicey hardy flavor that went down easy.

Pours a pale yellow color with a foamy head that settles quickly. Light aromas of hops and citrus. Is this really an IPA? It tastes more like a decent pale ale to me. Hop presence is mild for what you'd expect from an IPA. It's sessionable, but if you want an IPA I would pass on this.

Had this on draft this weekend in Wilmington, NC. Had a nice pale color almost reaching a shade of Amber but light was low in the restaurant. A nice white head at first pour then it went down a thin ring but fluffed up nice with a swirl. Aroma was nice, full-on hops with some floral hop aroma. I was curious how this straight Fuggles IPA would be. First taste on the palate was almost astringent but mellowed quickly and finished nice. A little of the malt was detected but this IPA was hop driven with the malt being hard to come through, and that was good. I was in a hurry to finish this to get to a wedding but I believe this is quaffable for about 3-4 if the time permitted. Cheers

I had this at the Florida Tap Room (I don't recommend the Orlando location).
A: Copper-amber, off-white head, not much retention.
S: The aroma isn't overpowering, but it is pleasant. I guess this is what fuggles smell like (orange, fig & little floral). A little toffee & caramel from the malt. Fruity esters from the British ale yeast are apparant.
T: Pleasant hop flavour (orange & fig); quality maltyness (bread with a little caramel and toffee); refreshing, but not overpowering bitterness. Perfectly balanced.
M: Moderate body has a malty creamyness. Moderate carbonation.
D: Very good.

The restaurant didn't have much to offer on draft. Couldn't remember having this before. Not a bad beer. It was a clear orange with a medium head that had good retention. Some lacing. It had a fresh floral scent and a nice hoppy taste with a little sweetness. I'd rate this as a middle of the road IPA.

As far as IPA's go, this one is mid range thus the straight 3's. It was a bit weak for the style but not so bad that it let the style down. The color was a cloudy light orange. The smell was semi-bitter. The taste was pretty good but seemed a bit watered down. There was a deffinate bitterness in the mouthfeel and it lingered in the aftertaste for quite a while. The drinkability was fair. I could find better representation of the style but overall not a bad beer. I would not mind having it again.

Tried to figure out how this distinguished itself on 3/18/2005. 20-oz. imperial pint at Paddys, next door to the Redhook Brewery in Newington, NH.
Very thin wash of carbonation with a fair amount of stick going down. Amber to light copper hue with total clarity and no visible action. Soapy, somewhat dredged hop on nose with a hint of weird cilantro and some clover notes. Crumbly, vacuous hop bite on back of tongue; butterscotch, almost rancid, coats everything and is a low-level annoyance, though somewhat typical of many offerings from this company. Cant recommend this one.

Appearance: Golden-copper-orange tone and thick head.
Smell: Hop bitterness and fruitiness.
Taste: More bitterness than fruitiness makes this a different sort of IPA than I am used to. I guess that's the 'English' part of it. The hops are well balanced with malt.
Mouthfeel: Nice and creamy.
Drinkability: An intriguing IPA that makes me want to come back for more.
Note: On-tap at Shipyard Brewery.

Pours a very pale gold with a thin snow white head. Like most Shipyard products, lots of lace and fizzy. Smell is grassy malt and lots of floral hops. Citrus.
Taste is unbalanced. Grassy pale malt is way too light to stand up to the considerable hops. Like a golden ale very heavily hoppped. Very bitter. Thin and crisp (again, too thin)
with a long Fuggles hop aftertaste. I like bitter but there is nothing behind the hops to complement them. OK but not great. A great beer if you want to hone your tastebuds to recognize Fuggles.

Pours a slightly coppery orange with generous white head. Sweet fruity hop aroma with a touch of diacetyl. Nice flavor, malty sweetness, butter, and fruity hops. Creamy mouthfeel with a very slight metalic finish. A good drinkin IPA, everything is balanced and goes down easy.

Poured a thick foamy cream of wheat colored head. The beer is clear and orangey copper in color. There is a light aroma of stinky hops. The taste is of sweet hops, although they arent as potent as Ive come to expect. I think this may be more of an English style IPA. The aftertaste is great, just a little bitterness that cuts into the sweet hoppy taste. Id say this is about middle of the road as far as body is concerned, with a good amount of carbonation. A tasty IPA, I will definitely be drinking it more often.

I have a feeling that because the head brewer at Shipyard is English, they aren't all about hops like most other American micros. They only use Fuggles hops, hence the name. It just doesn't have that kick. It looks like an IPA, but the stronger citrusy aroma isn't there and the mouthfeel is a bit more watery.

Appearance: Clear light brown hue, white head with ok retention.
Aroma: Bready with wiffs of spice. Aroma seems 'plain'.
Taste: Not too much upfront malty caramel in the flavor. The sweetness is overtaken by the bitterness early in the tasting. The aftertaste doesn't linger for long.
Notes: Beer tastes clean, but other than that nothing to write home about.

Sampled on draught at The Florida Tap Room
Served a bronze color with a small white head. Not much lacing, but decent lines of lacing.
Aromas of hops and malt. The hops are very floral, with hints of spice that made me think of white pepper. Very inviting, very obvious Fuggles hops aroma.
Tastes of lightly sweet malt, then Fuggles hops, hops, and more hops. Not a hop bomb, but a nice hop punch. Very floral and herbal with a nice bittering and spice. Medium body and a nice crisp finish.
A very good IPA IMHO.

Let me say right off the bat that I love Shipyard....until this beer. Just a poor offering in this style. Yes IPA's a re hoppy and bitter, but this was just horrible. Mouthfeel was bad, taste was poor, maybe I got a bad bottle? Almost tasted unfinished. Think I'll stick to the export ale or old thumper.

Pours a slightly hazy copper color with a medium, white bubbly head. The head fades away quickly, leaving a very thin lace. The hops are the first aroma that hits the nose intermixed with orange and lemon peel. The taste is very hoppy. Floral hops are definitely the dominator here making it extremely bitter. A mild tanginess of citrus fruit is also very apparent. The finish was light and very dry. This was a decent IPA, I could take it or leave it.

On tap at Redbones BBQ
Creamy looking white lace and perfect clarity. Clean and crisp palate, nice uniform maltiness. Hops are clean and sharp with a woody earthy bite. Touch of buttery diacetyl towards the end which finishes mostly dry. Went very well with the catfish fingers.

I don't think the Orlando stuff has consistancy. This was a darker brew than most IPA's I have had. It had a nice lasting head. Average nose, fresh but the hops does not jump at ya. Same upon tasting.. there is not a consistant hop bitterness or backbone to the brew. Decent mouth and look, but for me this does not stand as a great IPA to me.. and I love the style... Just your average IPA.
