Presentation: 12oz brown bottle. Freshness date on the side of the label. Not diggin' the new "IPA" shouting label ...

Appearance: Deep golden beer, touch of haze (goes away as the beer warms), crowned with a quickly settling, tight, creamy white lace with tentacles that cling to the glass.

Smell: Floral, perfume/estery, dry Bazooka bubble-gum. Mild, real mild, diacetyl in the background.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Smooth and creamy, light-bodied. Big grain tannin character that lends a cracked grain, earth, dry, husky flavour and feel on the palate. This is a very dry beer. A bit "dirty" in character.

Malt sweetness is quite low, although a bready pale malt flavour and malt body shows through as the beer warms up, along with a dab of buttery diacetyl. Hop flavour has hints of citric rind, salt and a mineral edge as it snaps at the palate. Bitter overall. Fruity esters and more soft bubble-gum-like flavours. Odd "eggy" sulfur flavour and "cheesey" hop flavour thrown in the middle. Dry grain tannins in the finish with a leafy hop note and touch of hop oil on the tongue -- finish is very unpleasant, seems like it'll never go way.

Notes & Drinkability: This is a tannin ridden beer, unbalanced, astringent, hard to swallow more than one and needs some cleaning up in my opinion. It's a dirty beer. On the right highway for the style, but took the wrong exit.

On tap at Redbones BBQ

Creamy looking white lace and perfect clarity. Clean and crisp palate, nice uniform maltiness. Hops are clean and sharp with a woody earthy bite. Touch of buttery diacetyl towards the end which finishes mostly dry. Went very well with the catfish fingers.

Served from the bottle and poured into a standard shaker glass. The beer pours with a good 1-2cm of bubbly head that dissipates rather quickly and leaves very minimal lacing on the glass. The color is a pale amber color that reminds me of some cheap sun-bleached orange fabric. The light penetration is pretty good with some mild chill haze that clears as the beer warms a little bit. The nose comes right out and introduces itself as a big glass of fuggles. It really is like opening a package of fuggles hop pellets. It is very earthy and very vegatal like a freshly dug carrot or radish. It wasn't an unpleasant smell at all. There was also some mild sweet caramel to the background as well, but the fuggles were all over it. The tast was again very earthy and vegetal, but more like zucchini bread than the aforementioned carrots and radishes. The bitterness was smooth and easy. Mouthfeel was super-dry and fairly bitter; maybe a little too far on the dry scale. As far as an IPA goes, this is very British given the excusive use of the Fuggles hops. I really enjoy the single hopped beer concept, and this IPA really does give you a full dose of fuggles so that I will always be able to find it in a beer. That said, the vegetal side of this hops really needs something with it to cool it off.

Beer pours a golden amber. Small head dissipating quickly, not a whole lot of lacing going on in the glass as you drink. Smell is a light toasted malt with some citrus with a small metallic note. Initial taste is a mildly bitter citrus, fairly thin. Generic IPA, nothing to write home about. Actually grabbed this one in Montreal, where they don't seem to know what IPA is, so it was a pleasant change of pace from the choices of Blonde/Red/Stout there.
