From a 12 fl. oz bottle with an expiration date of Feb 2009. Sampled in November 2008. Pours a clear amber tone with a light, beige head that fades after a few short moments. Lacing is about average. Aroma of sweet malts and hops. Kind of medium on the tongue and not thin at all. The flavor is bitter and slightly creamy. The hops are evident but not overbearing. A pretty good brew.

A: A feverish misty rise of effervesce within a sharp clarity of muted orange coloring. Modest size spongy cake head is a finger high but shows some resilience in its stay. The lace leaves only moderate impressions behind.

S: soft with sweet toasted grains and some earthy hops. Graham crackers and cinnamon toast come to mind. The flavor is sweet again of warm toasted malt, octoberfest like, with a sweet floral hopping.

T: Small touches of honey and graham crackers with a sweet dusting of cinnamon. Sweet buttery and toasted grain base, more malt toned then hop, makes me unsure of the style at current time, but drinks like a decent octoberfest (which I later learned was completely off base). Things are even more convincing with a noticeable noble flowery fade.

M: The carbonation is still going strong long into the drink. Oily texture, light bodied with things thinning a bit near the end.

O: Overall a decent sweet toasted English ale. Still convinced this makes a better octoberfest.

Pours a medium clear orange with a good off-white head and decent lacing.

Big bubblegum cotton candy scent up front, with some toasted malt following up. Different for sure, but a little off-putting.

Big ringwood yeast flavor. Candied fruit elements with a bunch of buttered toast. Watered down Old Thumper? Kinda. Flavor is a little too weak for me.

Decent carbonation and medium body.

Overall, not a hard beer to drink, just have to be sure he elements of the yeast are to your liking. Too thin and weak for my liking -- if I want this type of flavor or style, I can get Old Thumper and enjoy it. Not horrific, but no where near what this was when brewed in Boston.

After reading some of the forum posts, it sounds like the beer I had is part of a rebranding effort or something. I had the Tremont Patriot Pale Ale, which I think is what this beer is. It's got a better label if anything.

I thought this was a good malty beer, smooth. It had a slight bitter aftertaste to give it a nice flavor.

Pours a reddish-copper color with a one-finger head that disappears after a minute.

Aroma is full of light hop bitterness, biscuit malt and a bit of buttery caramel.

Taste is smooth upfront with the light hop bitterness and biscuit malt showing through well. A bit sweet as well. Not too much of the buttery flavor.

Mouthfeel is full of lingering biscuit malt, light hops and fruitiness. Not much else to detect.

Actually more drinkable than their IPA. The buttery flavor is reduced in this. Not bad.

Poured from a glass into a Chimay goblet. It pours a dark copper color, with little head. The beer doesn't have the same level of hoppiness than a typical American pale ale and almost has a sweet aftertaste. It is very drinkable and fairly low ABV means you can have a few. Not a bad beer to have in the fridge but it probably wouldn't be the first thing I grabbed off the shelf.

This brew poured to a copper color with a small off white head that had limited retention and little lacing. The aromas seem light, toasted malts giving a buttery like scent. Also some slight fruit aromas mixing around with a slight hop presence. The flavor is similar to the aromas but has a strong bready flavor. The hops also stick out more here as they linger at the back of the mouth giving a floral note. Over all this is an ok brew, picked it up on a whim while at Hannaford. I will try some of the others styles they carry but have never been really impressed with the Shipyard offerings.

A - Clear copper with a relatively thin creamy head which drops quickly.

S - This beer has a great nose with earthy british hop aroma. Definitely a bready/biscuity malt flavor which is excellent for the style. Also a yeasty character from the british yeast that isn't like most Shipyard beers, but is still there.

T - Strong malt flavor with bready yeast character. Hop bitterness is assertive but not overbearing. The hop flavor is earthy/floral, but is more in the background.

M - The biggest knock I have is the just slightly thin body for this style combined with a slightly high level of carbonation. Tough to get carbonation right in bottles, but this one doesn't match the body. However the dry finish is very refreshing and is very reminiscent of another.

D - Nice, drinkable english pale ale. Easily a beer to drink more than one of. The carbonation is annoyingly high, but letting it sit for a few minutes fixes that. Overall a surprisingly good beer.

A: Pours a hazy amber color with a pretty thin head. No lacing left behind, but the carbonation was pretty active.

S: Smells bready, herbal and floral hops, a little buttery.

T: I was expecting bland for some reason, so I was surprised. Lots of biscuity flavor with some caramel in there too. Some floral hop flavor meshed with the buttery flavor from the yeast pretty well.

M: Crisp, clean, refreshing...Shipyard made this?

D: This is a pretty decent brew if I say so myself.

From a 12oz bottle, this beer was a golden color with a medium-sized white head. While there was a bit of malt in the aroma, I thought there was mostly a flowery bouquet, and thought it was lavender. The taste was pretty straightforward: a bit of bread and a nice hoppy finish. An enjoyable beer.

Poured a medium copper hue with a two finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a doughy caramel malt and a spicy hop.

The taste consisted of an upfront sweet caramel malt with a grassy and spicy hop. A touch of diacetyl as well.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness for the style.

Overall a very well done EPA.

This pours a nice brown color. However, looks here are a bit decieving. Indeed, the beer, while better than your average beer, is uninspiring. Tremont is drinkable, but lacks an excitement which is required of a beer that is designed for the premium market.

12oz brown bottle (screwtop) from Hannaford in Gardiner. Pours a hazy dark amber with a good inch of off-white head. Smells like earthy spicy hops with some biscuit malt. Tastes like grassy, earthy, and citrusy hops with enough biscuit and caramel malt to balance it out nicely. Medium in body and moderate in carbonation. Very drinkable. Nothing exciting but a solid EPA for sure, and definitely something I'd be open to going back to.

Pours a clear copper color with no carbonation. There is a white head that had some retention.
Not a lot of smell. A little sweet malt smell.
Tastes like a standard balance of hops and malts. Neither stands out over the other. A slight sweetness at the end.
Mouthfeel is a nice smooth thickness to it.
Overall, the beer is smooth and has good balance, so it is easy to drink. There is not a lot going on in the taste, however, so they might get boring over time.

Found this on tap last week at Summer Shack in the Back Bay. Pours with a dark amber color and a minimal fizzy head. The smell had a bit of citrus on the nose. The taste was just average. There was some hop presence, but not much. This beer also left a very strange aftertaste in the mouth after I finished it off. Not as good a beer in comparison to when I first had it years ago.

Bought a six-pack hoping to enjoy a decent IPA. Found that I was drinking a very ordinary Black Label, E&B variety, off-the-shelf, rot-gut, weak American piss-poor beer. Has a darker color and might be better than horse-piss Budweiser, but I doubt it. Definitely not worth the premium price.

If your taste is for a good American IPA, I refer you to Bell's HopSlam or Two Hearted. The Dogfish Head 120-90-60 will also satisfy.
