330 mL bottle. July 2011. Poured a dark murky ruddy brown colour. Head and retention is pretty slight but it does leave a pretty good amount of lacing.

Smell is an interesting plummy yeast combo. Fermenting dark fruits, a bit of vineous sourness. But a noticeable thick malt underneath. Aromatic, sticky toffee caramel, brandy alcohol.

Taste leads with a big body of plummy fruitiness and drying alcohol. Some caramel sweetness, honey, not much bitterness until a touch of dry rummy chocolate on the finish. Finish is long, wood-dust dry, and very full. A lot of dessert/after dinner qualities, fairly smooth on the palate with mainly dark fruit and a hint of spicey alcohol. A nice balance of fruit and malt, with some sweetness, which is quite nice but theres not a ton else going on.

Mouthfeel has a big body, with a smooth body of malt. It doesn't feel overly heavy, light carbonation, mostly rich malt on the palate. Sippeable for sure, long finish.

An average barleywine, with a pretty decent balance of flavours, not very bitter, but falls short on complexity to the high bar set in this style. Still quite pleasant, but there are better barleywines.

First things first; I still havn't had a beer from S:t Eriks that excited me - so I'm sceptical.

A: Pours hazy deep orange with a rather airy medium-large tan head that quickly sinks into faint lacings.

S: Sweet dark dried fruits overload! Almost nothing else...

T: Very sweet, dark dried fruits. Nutty and bitter. Slightly more complexity compared to the smell.

M: Surprisingly long aftertaste, sweet and bitter. Low on carbonation and with a full smooth body.

O: Still S:t Eriks isn't especially well-crafted, but this beer, was actually not that bad.

The beer is clear amber with lots of bubbles, an off-white rather small head, little lacing. Very good curtains.

Smelling of sweet dried fruits, apricots and prunes, lemon zest, bitter dry grass.

Starting very sweet, brown syrup, dried fruits, rather aggressive bitter finish. Slightly alcoholic. Crushed grape-fruit seeds.

Medium high carbonation, soft, oily and sticky, a sharp and rather long bitterness.

Well, will probably have to wait a couple of year, seemed overhopped and slightly boozy now.

The colour is brown-red (35 EBC), the liquid is clear. The low head slowly sinks down leaving some lacing and curtains on the glass.

The rather light smell is very malty and somewhat sweet. Notes of nuts and matured strong red wine. Some smooth alcohol and a delicate dry bitterness.

The taste is more powerful: Smooth sweetness and some quickly passing clean bitterness. Some nuts and hints of matured white port wine. Hints of leather and dried fruits. Full body. The aftertaste is smooth with warming alcohol, smooth bitter grassy flavours, some dry notes of new-cut flowers and notes of malt caramels.

The carbonation is mild and smooth, the bubbles medium sized. The liquid is semi-smooth.

A pretty straightforward barley wine. Will probably be better after a few years cellaring. I had expected more.
