Pours dark honey. Creamy white head. Mirky amber
Light nose once head settles. Barely there.
Very cold the taste almost avoids the palate. Getting some more as it warms. Smooth tasting. Almost too much. Getting some hops at the end. Up front getting orange blossom honey. Hops could be more existent here personally or maybe I've been drinking too many dipa. .otherwise a very easy downer. Great for a hot day. Very light
Mouth. Gets carbonation towards the end. Light mouthfeel. Bounces off the tongue.
Overall I would buy again. Not spectacular but an easy drinker. That's only because I prefer more hops to a heavy malt ipa. I think that is where it lacks for me is that it almost goes down too easy. The flavor races away so fast. For the abv I can hardly taste the alchohol though

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.
Pours a murky orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the mouthfeel on this one is a bit off in my opinion.

Poured from the 22oz bottle into a Dogfish Head Ale glass. Listed as PT Defiance on the bottle I assume this is the same brew. No obvious bottle dating.
A murky brown and opaque body, with perhaps a hint of orange, a good mix of slow rising very pinhead sized carbonation in a few places, mostly on the rim. Head makes about two to three fingers, a little bit yellow but mostly off white. Decent retention and lacing.
Virtually closed on the nose. No hop presence at all, and strangely not even any sense of malt or sweetness. There's a little bit of hiding grain, sense of husk, but this is hardly smelling IPA territory.
Palate hits with a mild, light caramel like sweetness. Hop front on this seems to be in the mid palate and even for a standard IPA it is incredibly small. Good decent body with enough to carry the little flavor that is on this beer. Much of the hop flavor is mostly aroma that comes on the aftertaste. THe caramel sense mixes nicely with a little bit of bitterness, but the hop angle on this is so tiny it's indistinct.
This isn't a bad drinking beer, but as for an IPA it's extremely downplayed. If you are an IPA or hop head nut this beer is going to do nothing for you.

Appearance: very cloudy dark orange, light tan two finger of head. Good retention/lace.
Aroma: citrus, honey, caramel, orange, sweet kumquat, dark bread.
Taste: very mild bitterness, caramel maltiness, verging on way to sweet with little residual backing hoppiness. Mild citrus and pine.
***body is creamy and a bit too rich feeling on the palate. There appears to be a date printed vertically, but its illegible. Maybe it's old, though the shop I bought it from seems to have a very good turn around rate... Either way, its an overly sweet, mildly hoppy ipa and just isn't that enjoyable for me.

Appearance: Light amber. Head is fluffy, bright-white, and leaves some serious clumps and rings of lacing. Head retention is decent, leaving a small, clumpy cap. Relatively clear with a slight chill haze.
Smell: Herbal and floral. Some underlying citrus zest. Malt backbone is solid enough to hold its own. Some light caramel malt sweetness. Lightly toasted with a slight bready finish. Very clean and relatively light. Dustings of citrus. Slightly earthy. Mild oxidation and underlying ale yeast.
Taste: Leafy herbal hops. Light citrus zest. Mild bready malt backbone. Some toasted notes. Some caramel malt sweetness. A hint of oxidation pushes some damp cardboard. Hints of grapefruit flesh. Juicy and wet. Some earthiness. Lingering spicy edge. Some alcohol. Some grass.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation runs a bit high. Body is medium with a cleanish finish.
Overall: Less defiant and more stubborn than anything else.
Tastes like any number of home brewed IPAs. A bit raw and oxidized but drinkable. Decent.

I bought a bomber of Pt Defiance IPA in a grocery store. Poured in to a pint glass.
Pours a brew the color of brown sugar, with a deep haze. Small creamy head.
The smell is a sweet candy and malt aroma.
Taste is also malty with caramel flavors dominating.
Mouthfeel is thick and smooth. Very little carbonation.
A drinkable IPA in the English style I think. Not bad.

OVERCARBONATED, warning...warning.
Served in a snifter. Beer is a gusher. Big head off white bubbles, amber / brown beer, hazy, looks OK.
Aroma is quite malty, sweet, light on the hops. So far not impressed with this beer, hopefully the taste improves.
Beer is medium in body and mildy bitter but weird, it is sweet and sort of ashy and vegetal in the mouth, not liking this at all, moving on.

22 oz. bottle purchased at Whole Foods (Westlake) yesterday and poured to a pint glass at home (Portland) tonight.
No date on the label, nor seemingly any other descriptive info... except for "SMALL BATCH BREWED" in bold type down the right edge of the label. A closer look in the label's background (significantly different than the above photo) shows word combos like 'English Malted Barley' and 'Dry Hopped' (followed by partially revealed words like 'Amarillo' and 'Centennial'. Making a 'game' of the ingredient list: that's one way to do it.
A: Lovely pour! A deep antique copper, red-orange in light and 'bread crust' amber at a side glance. Small bubbles wriggle through a mild haze, a few valiantly cling at the sides of the glass. Head is terrific, a thick 2-fingers of fluffy ivory. Lace is clumpy and coating, globs of seafoam and breaking spiderwebs.
S: Hmmmm. Puzzling, is this an 'English'-styled with lighter hop aromas and emphasis on grains/balance? Or is this, as categorized, an 'American'? Judging by my repeated sniffs, I'm saying the former: its malty caramel notes and bakery-fresh sweetness are light but are more present than most of the hops (which are scarce and resemble cut grass and a pinch of herbs). Pretty ho-hum... though it must be noted that this is (cue recording) an undated bottle. So who's to say whether it's at its freshest?
T: Very bready (toasty, crusty), with hops that are spicy and dry ~ Centennial hops shine here! After the first couple tastes dryness and 'citrus rind' pith are amplified. Thentoasty malt returns, very much a spicy dough (rye-like) with a hint of lemony tang. Slightly 'tinny' in the finish, a minor knock.
M: Creamier feel, a round-ish body that starts lighter/thinner but develops well and lasts indefinitely. Carbonation is rather mild.
O: A likable IPA, very balanced (again, in an 'English' way). At around 6%, it's easy enough to drink. All that said, it really doesn't standout in a way that I'm particularly drawn toward... but on tap, at the pub might be a different story.

On draft at Harmon Taproom on 2/5/12.
Appearance: Cloudy bright amber color with a one finger off white head that didn't sit for long. Lacing is average for the style.
Smell: Sweet, citrus scent with a noticeable grainy scent as well.
Taste: Inital taste is carmel sweetness and citrus hops, although the hop flavor is subdued for the style. Finishes with a nice bitterness on the back of the tongue.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with significant carbonation.
Overall: Nothing sticks out to me, good or bad. Average IPA that is good for one pint. I've had this once before in a bottle and remember being more impressed.

Opened a 22 oz bottle purchased at supermarket when I was pretty thirsty. I like a head and didn't seem to get as much as with other favorites.
Good flavor, but lacking the citrus/pine overtones I normally enjoy. Mouthfeel was a little thin, not as full as hoped for but still good.
Dark amber, slightly hazy. Bitterness about right for a northwestern IPA.
Overall, I liked it and will try another.
