Served on-tap at Roman`s in Milwaukee.
Appearance is an orange tone w/ 1 finger of white head. This beer looks appealing, excited to try it. Its` nose has pine, Belgian yeast, orange and biscuits. Sipping on it, it has a taste of grapefruit, orange, hops, some light spice as well. Mouthfeel is low key, average carbonation, some bitterness in the finish. This is a great beer from this small brewery out of Madison, WI.

A - Hazy, unfiltered golden orange in color, great lacing and a beautiful pour.
S - Very sweet, along with the extremely pervasive smell of fresh hops. It's incredible...almost smells like a wheat beer, but the hops really burst on through.
T - Wow. Just...wow. I always get inexplicably excited for Bedlam to be released, and every year I get a reminder as to why. There's an almost candy-like sweetness here, with hints of orange and grapefruit. I would almost describe the taste as "juicy." Follow that up with a really heavy dose of hops, and this is an amazing Belgian IPA.
M - Wonderful. Perfect carbonation, great balancing, smooth finish and a pleasant aftertaste.
O - I've had a lot of Belgian IPAs, but none hit it quite on the head like Ale Asylum does. All of their beers are great, but Bedlam is (imo) the best of them all. Superb, and a must-try if you ever come up to Madison!

On tap at Brickhouse BBQ in Madison, WI.
A: Hazy/Cloudy orange body. Great lacing with the perfect amount of head.
S: Fruity hoppy goodness.
T: Fruity and hoppy, but a good fruit - not just the normal orange and grapefruit, but I'm getting some mango in there. Also a good hint of spice. Good amount of yeastiness.
M: Crisp, dry, yet oily and sticky at the same time.
O: I had it on tap, and then on the way home bought a case. Terrific beer that more people need to try.

Released yesterday at the brewery.
Thanks to Jeremy for meeting us at the release party... Two pitchers of this disappeared fast!
Pours a deep, glowing orange. Hazed with yeast sediment, it becomes opaque as it settles. Frothy dense cap of foam, delicate crown of lacing rings the inside of the glass. The initial head was about 3", but it settled to a skim and a cluster of larger bubbles to one side.
Melon, tangerine, mango, and orange waft out of the glass, a certain spiciness from the hops also. Slightly sweet pastry aroma too as it warms up. The dank stickiness of fresh hops is unmistakable here.
Lush fruity flavors, orange peel and mango, with some pale malt breadiness in the middle. Finishes dry and fairly mellow. Body is light, extremely smooth and juicy with a lingering residual sticky bitterness. The resemblance to grapefruit juice is uncanny, though Bedlam has carbonation and malt flavor to boot. Pure nectar. Very hop forward, lush dankness abounds. "Perilously drinkable" in the words of the late Michael Jackson.
Seek this out fresh, don't settle for anything less.

On tap at Jac's
Pale orange pour with a thin tight film that leaves a steady clump of lacing
It's been awhile since I've been completely taken aback by the nose of a beer. So..damn..fresh. Bedlam oozes loads of orange marmalade toast. Fresh apricot, a light toastiness, and a slight, but noticeable yeast presence round out the nose. The hops certainly take center stage. I smelled this beer for at least a minute prior to digging in.
Wow....the best of both worlds here. Hops front and center from the get-go. Sticky citrus in the form of tangerine and some apricot. Smooth yet a bit sticky, in a very good way, through the middle with a mild bitterness at the finish. Belgian yeast is noticeable, but neither overwhelming nor center stage. A very nice example of the style, particularly if you enjoy a hop-centric version.
The tap version of this beer moved it into my favorite beer from Ale Asylum. Very enjoyable.

Had this on tap at Ale Asylum on Easter Sunday. Reviewed from notes from that evening.
A: Pours a sparkling orange amber. Somewhat hazy, and the pour creates a large, pillowy white head that dissolves into a ring. A bit of patchy lacing. Looks really great.
S: Interesting smell. Definitely on the sweeter side, with pale malt leading the way. A bit of Belgian yeast, but not as much as some other Belgian IPAs I've had. There's sort of a grassy or hay smell down there. A little pepper.
T/M: Again, the Belgian yeast is a bit weaker than in other examples of the style. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The taste is similar to the smell, but with a more distinct hop presence. Still definitely on the sweeter side of things. Some alcohol flavor. The body is a tad light, with medium carbonation.
D: A solid Belgian IPA. A bit too sweet for everyday drinking, but it was definitely an enjoyable treat.

Pours a MASSIVE< dense, resiny, white head that has fantastic persistence and leaves lacing like Spiderman falling down a well. OH! THE SMELL! YES! THIS IS THE SMELL OF ANGELS! A brilliant, robust citrus hop aroma. Light, burnt umber color is lustrious. Starts with a bitter burst of citrus fruit. Bright, fresh oranges dominate as the bitterness wells to a pleasant medium level. Then, the malt develops well and everything smooths into a biscuity flavor. As the finish comes, the citrus flavors blend well with the malt.
This is a perennial favorite of mine. Always a winner.
Seriously, this defines a GREAT smelling brew!

"Bedlam! A chaotic blend of Citra hops and Belgian yeast give this IPA aromas of summer fruits and a bright hop presence with a plush finish."
A: Hazy golden orange nectar that you can not see through. A nice pillowy 3 finger white foamy head as you would expect from a Belgian style IPA.
S: Big fruity hop aromas, tropical and citrus. It has Citra hops after all. You get the classic Belgian Ale yeast flavor at the end.
T: Such an interesting taste to this. It is not bitter, but a big fruity IPA that almost could pass for a Triple with out the spiciness.
M: A light to medium with sharp carbonation very similar to Belgian Pale Ales.
O: Just read the quote from the bottle I posted at the top. A fun beer to drink with a very unique and delicious flavor. Ale Asylum sure has great IPA's.

Ahhh!!!! Bedlam season, good to live in Wisconsin!
Pours a hazy light orange color with a finger of a fluffly white head, looks great!
Smell is pineapple, banana, oranges, lemons and spicy belgian yeast.
Taste is incredible!! Citrus is all over, mango, pineapple, lemon, oranges, banana, lemon and a definite belgian yeast kick in the end.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with sharp carbonation that works really well.
Well I do not think Citra hops woth this well with american yeasts, but with belgian yeast.... WOW this is a beer I have had the last couple years just never reviewed, It is amazing..
They just stated bottling this a little over a week ago so it is the essence of fresh! Bedlam baby, no better Belgian IPA out there!

Appearance- Murky light orange. Pours with a finger of white head that fades to tiny bubbles covering the surface
Smell- Nose is my favorite part of this beer. Tropical fruit and citrus with a hint of alcohol behind that.
Taste- Taste follows the nose with a nice citrus burst followed by a pleasant bitterness that washes over at the end. Love the citra hops in this one.
Mouthfeel- On the full side for an ipa. Very creamy upfront but the carbonation gives a crisp finish.
Overall- Bedlam is a great example of what a Belgian ipa can and should be. I can't get enough of that big tropical/citrus flavor. The body is different and more interesting then a run of the mill ipa. Never hesitate to grab a 6 of this when I come across it.

Ale Asylum Bedlam
Appearance: Ale Asylum’s highly acclaimed Trappist IPA is pours a nearly crystal-clear, firey, deep orange. The beer looks almost akin to the color of a blood orange, or a gorgeous autumn sunset (sadly, this is the summer seasonal instead of the fall). A healthy three-and-a-half fingers of bone-colored head explodes off the top of the beer and leaves a swath of lacing in its path down the glass towards the insanely effervescent, hazy-yet-crystalline liquid. This beer is one of the best-looking beers out there. Seriously.
Aroma: Wow, this is complex and builds anticipation, as an aroma should. Tangerines, oranges, pineapples, grapefruits, and perhaps even peaches and apricots assault the nose up front. A playful, yet not intense hoppiness follows through, with the enticing smell of Trappist yeast on its heels. The yeast is accompanied by just the slightest hints of sweet malts, but that is a hidden gem in this beer. The strong yeast smell that lingers on the nose and wafts out of the glass may not be for everyone, but it plays so well with the tropical fruits that it is almost irresistible.
Taste: This beer is immensely juicy. The complexity follows the aroma step for step with the tropical fruits flooding the taste buds with sweetness all over the tongue; the bready yeastiness taking over from there. Malts are there ever so slightly (as before) and blend everything together to get an almost banana-like quality in the finished amalgam of taste. Surprisingly, the hops do not hit nearly as hard as some of the other IPAs from Ale Asylum (Hopalicious and Satisfaction Jacksin come to mind), which is a bit disappointing; there is no astringency or bitterness to balance out the fruity sweetness of this otherwise beautifully tasting beer. Still, Ale Asylum may have ignored balance on this beer on purpose, and when a beer tastes this good, balanced or not, it is hard to find fault regardless; the lack of bitterness is merely a nitpick in this upper echelon beverage.
Mouthfeel: The medium-thick body and creamy, fizzy texture slide down slowly and spread the multitude of tastes everywhere. There is just a hint of alcohol warming as the glass empties, which may be happening sooner than the drinker thinks. The sweetness is expectedly sticky and coats the tongue and mouth, yet washes away rather quickly for a dry aftertaste. As with taste, the lack of hops comes into play just a bit in the lack of astringency that one normally expects with IPAs. Again, this is a very minor nitpick.
Overall: This is Ale Asylum’s best offering. It is truly a shame that this is not a year-round beer because, living in Madison, I would love to have this in my fridge at all times. The Trappist (or, more broadly, Belgian) IPA is not something I have had before, but I will certainly be seeking more out after this masterpiece of brewing craft. This is unquestionably deserving of a spot in my personal Top Five Beers, and is just a hair off perfection. As it is distributed only within a very small radius in Wisconsin, look for possible trades if you are interested. If ever there was a beer that needed exposure, it is this jaw-dropping Trappist IPA. 18.5/20

Hazy orange, nice lacing.
Nice grapefruit/assorted tropical fruits in the nose.
Grapefruit, peach, spices, orange, yeast, pepper. Wonderful.
Medium mouthfeel, fairly good carbonation.
This took me entirely by surprise. I got a single. And will be seeking out more.

12oz bottle.
Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a small soapy head that recedes slowly and leaves some delicate lacing on the sides.
Aroma is spectacular, just full of juicy citrus hops, pineapples and oranges, pithy grapefruit, but with a definitely fruity ester note in the background from the Belgian yeast. But, to be clear, this smells much more like an American IPA.
Taste is certainly a step below the aroma with the juicy fruit coming through but much less aggressively as in the aroma. Plenty of malts and more spicy than the aroma as well.
Mouthfeel is smooth with soft carbonation and prickly with hop juices on the palate.
This was definitely a pleasant surprise as it's one of the better Belgian IPAs I've tasted recently. The taste didn't quite deliver the promise of the aroma but that was a pretty serious promise.

Poured into a pint glass.
3.5 A: Well hazed peach color. One finger of frothy/creamy white head. Retention is about average and a short ring of lacing is left.
4.5 S: Quite hoppy and in a way that is befitting of the brew. This is super grassy. It's probably the only brew I've ever had that is both extremely hoppy and not citrusy at all. Earthy and herbal after the grassiness. Lightly sugary. Belgian yeast spiciness that comes mainly in the form of clove and pepper. Otherwise clean. Very nice.
4.0 T: Again, this is has a clean neutral maltiness with big hops and spicy yeast. Big grassy flavor. Very low bitterness. Pepper and clove. Superbly drinkable. The hops are potent, but don't overstep their place.
4.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly spritzy with a good creaminess. Super smooth.
4.5 D: This is a damn fine beer. Incredibly drinkable. Hops do their job and do it well, but don't make the beer a cloying undrinkable hop bomb that some of the more citrus oriented IPAs do. This is a wonderful beer and a must try.

Poured into a Bell's tulip on 8/3/12
Cloudy, rustic orange appearance. One and a half finger head condenses slowly. Thin retention overall. Lace is good, though - dense, drippy rings.
Tropical hops aromas mix with light fruit juiciness, resulting in something of a fruit cocktail of an aroma. Peach, mango, grapefruit, apple and hints of banana. Notions of fruity bubblegum. Bread and cracker linger in the back.
The flavor is juicy in a serious way - and it doesn't stop with the fruit qualities of the yeast. Oh, there's grapefruit, peach, lemon and tangerine aplenty. Modest, clean bitterness picks up in the middle and lingers on the finish. The malt bill is really nice, too - some mildly-flavored grains.
The feel is somewhat slick and kind of grainy at the same time, but the combination works for the medium body. Carbonation is appropriately low and well within my comfort range. The aforementioned bitterness on the finish builds toward the end of the glass, but continues to retain good, residual hop flavor.
Wow, Bedlam surpassed my expectations with ease. I have no idea how old it is (I've had it for a week and a half), but it's very tasty as is. Wish I had a few more.

A - Slightly hazed deep orange color. Medium sized, foamy, creamy, tight, white head. Good retention leaving a nice layer of lace.
S - Loads of Citra hops and Belgian yeast mixing together. Sweet, juicy, grapefruit, mango, peach, pineapple, melon, and tangerine hops along with orchard fruit and a slight banana flavor. Nice Belgian yeast aroma.
T - Similar to the aroma. Loads of Citra hops and fruitiness (see Smell). Pale malt and candi sugar/honey sweetness. Hints of spice. Nectary sweet with a nice bitterness on the finish. Wonderful.
M - Medium body with above average carbonation. Slightly slick/oily.
D - Very easy to drink. Goes down wonderfully and I keep wanting to drink more. Lush, fruity, juicy, and wonderful.
Notes: Excellent Belgian IPA. Citra hops work wonderfully with the Belgian yeast and malt. Loads of fruit and very juicy on the tongue. More please.

Poured this one out with a big of aggression, the head wasn't too big on this beer... Perhaps some of the carbonation has started to fade with time. Would like to try a fresh bottle sometime. The color of the beer is a very nice looking clear golden copper. With a thin white head that doesn't last long at all. The smell of the beer is so nice, the aromas of fresh fruits like pears, peaches and some pineapple come together on the nose with the sweet Belgian yeast and the Citra hope as well. The taste of the beer was awesome too, a brilliant sweetness in the beginning that is quickly destroyed by the bitterness of the hops. The carbonation is very gentle in the beer, it remains smooth and very drinkable. Overall this beer kicked ass.

WHAT A SURPRISE!! thanks for throwing this in as an extra - you know who you are.
A: Reddish brown with 1 finger head, good amount of lacing, murky body.
S: Spice, peach, complex! Can't really figure it out.
T: I love this hop flavor! All peach and spice, imo. Very little grapefruit and pine, but peppery and slightly spicy. Well balanced. What's cool is after taste is all peach!
M: Good amount of carbonation. Refreshing (light to medium body).
O: I don't quite know what the hell this is, but I love it. Not so sweet or bitter, nothing overpowering here, but very well balanced, peachy, yeasty. I love it. A total surprise.

Thanks to TATURBO for bring this bottle back from Madison. Thanks Chris.
poured into tulip glass.
Appearance: brillant and clear medium golden yellow bodied beer with 2 fingers of soapy white head. decent lacing makes a thin coating on the glass.
Smell: yeasty, fruity, peppery, and spicy. Hops take a backseat to the belgian yeast notes in the nose. Hops smell of grapefruit, mandrin oranges, a hint of pine and tropical fruits. I even get a bubblegum note of sweetness from the hops. Great nose.
Taste: Mellow bitterness from this beer which really surprised me comparing the taste to the nose. Hops taste of grapefruit, tropical fruit, tropical fruit, grass, and oranges. The beer is moderately yeasty and peppery. The malts are mildy sweet with bready and caramel notes. Finishes with all these flavors balancing out nicely. No lingering bitterness in the finish from the hops.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer, but it on the lower end of the spectrum. Moderate carbonation also on the lower end of moderate. Super drinkable for 7.5%. Clean and smooth beer.
Overall: Its like a belgian zombie dust, but more focused on the belgian part of the beer and less focus on the hops. Great job Ale Asylum!

A- Not much of a head at all. Leaves a collar initially. Thin lacing left around the glass. Beer is a murky oragne.
S- Aromas of citrus mixed with a Belgian yeast strain sweetness, I like.
T- Follows the nose. Grapefruity citrus followed by Belgian yeast spiciness.
M- Medium mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
D/O- Highly drinkable considering ABV. Got better as it warmed a tad. Get this beer a head and it be great, otherwise a very good Belgian IPA. Hats off to Ale Asylum, my favorite from them so far.

Received as an extra in a trade. Poured into a Duvel tulip.
A - Pours a crystal clear golden copper amber hue with a one finger head that fades to leave a thin quarter inch blanket and light side lacing.
S - Wow, real nice aromas here. Strong fruity citra hops, citrus, light tropics, light dank hop aroma, slight belgian yeast notes, subtle funk, slight sweet malts. No ABV detectable.
T - Damn, not nearly as tasty as the nose. A bit too malty for my liking. The belgian yeast notes are pleasantly there with some nice sweet citrusy hops. Light bitter pines, grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Would like to see a bit more though.
M - Mouthfeel is quite good. Light bitter finish with some slight sharp carbonation. Super drinkable and refreshing.
O - Overall this was a tasty beer with nice citra hop notes. Still, I'd like to see a bit more hop with this. All in all though it is a good beer.

Glowing burnt orange with a cloudy appearance due to the swirling and pouring of the yeast from the bottom of the bottle. Glistening off-white head of foam with great lacing.
Bright citrusy hops in a big way to go along with fruity and funky belgian yeast. What a powerful combo.
Belgian yeast that adds a nice funk, american hops and if I had to guess I would say citra, cascade and centennial. The bitterness is kept in a check by a honey and crackery sweet malt backbone. Some floral undertones also. So complex, yet blended so well.
Very smooth and soft on the palate. Finishes dry. A touch of warmth is felt down deep from the alcohol.
This drinks so amazingly well. I only grabbed two sixers of this and am now wishing I would have grabbed a case or more. Overall, this has to be my favorite american made belgian IPA. Love it!
