Nice looking beer. Black body with a sturdy crop of brown froth on top. It stays around for the duration. Nice lacing as well. Aroma is sweet and chocolatey. Milk chocolate. A little chalky, in a good way. Roasty a bit. Nice aroma. The flavor comes through even more nicely. Cocoa powder and milk chocolate dominate in a subdued kind of way. A bit of a ghostly lactose presence....or is it ghostly. Nice roasted character. Medium bodied and quite velvety. Very easy drinking and flavorful...pre-requisites for an oatmeal stout in my book. Very good one here.

On tap at The Fountain (Madison).

Pours a milk-chocolate brown, with tan head. Smells of roasty mocha.

Really nice clean black coffee flavor on the pallate. Charred toast. No real sweetness. A bit of chocolate flavor.

A bit thin in the mouth. That's the real disappointment. Delicious, but just watery, without much tactile presence. But high drinkability because of it.

Thanks to beery friend Kat, I'm drinking from a growler of Ale Asylum's Big Slick Stout tonight without a trip to Madison. Oatmeal Stout according to the Ale Asylum website, this beer is not your average smooth drinking, light oaty stout. Big and bold, I somehow forget that I really like this beer.

Cap of the growler was on super tight, and a slight hiss upon opening. Nice job. Head bubbles up only with effort though and creates a dark tan, brown streaked head that falls to the lace to the left. Well named, this beer is the color of dirty motor oil. Coffee and clean roast in the nose, and hint of spice from hop and maybe a little bit of the 7% alcohol. Full bodied mouthfeel support a light fresh coffe, roast malt, some dark cherry hidden in the background and that same spice from the nose. Smooth and cream from the oatmeal. Dry, slightly bitter finish lingers pleasantly.
