This beer is a dark ruby. The brown head recedes to an edging in seconds. Lacing is truncated. The aroma is milky sweet and bittersweet at the same time. The roasted and chocolate flavors are really subdued in this porter. I want to knock it because the roastiness level isn't where I'd like, but this just tastes too damn good to knock it. To me, it almost tastes more like a Milk Stout/ Porter Hybrid....and a damn good one at that. There's a sweet aspect to this beer that would probably seem out of place in other porters, but really accentuates this one nicely. Milk sugar and brown sugar come to mind. Lactic sweetness. The carbonation level of this beer is just right to lend a high drinkability factor. Body is about medium-full.
Thank you Brother Zap for the nice little Imperial Porter.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a Lagunitas mason jar glass.
Appearance: dark brown to black. Shined a 600 lumen bike light through it and it had a burgundy to maroon shade. Not a lot of head and minimal lacing.
Smell: Lots of malts and a little fruit (cherry).
Taste: Malts dominate this brew. A little cherry. Not much hops. Sweet but in a good way. I get no taste of alcohol. Very smooth and pleasant.
Mouthfeel: Solid medium body.
I like this beer. I asked the beer guy at the store for a good malty porter and he suggested this. It was a home-run. Sweeter than most of the Baltic Porters I have had, but this is a solid beer. I bought 3 of these and had one last week and liked it. Just opened the second tonight and feel the same way. I sipped it over the course of an hour. Taste is pretty constant from cold to room temp. This is not a complex beer (mainly malt favor) but is a beer I will keep on hand. Price was $1.89 for a 16.9 oz bottle.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: deep, rich brown with ruby hints. Head poured a finger of creamy tan foam which leaves a good lace as it dissipates. I like it.
Smell: rich malt aroma of dark fruit; raisins, tobacco, cherry and dates. It smells kind of like a super-imperial kvass. A lovely combo, in my opinion.
Taste: deep, rich malt flavor with that same dusty dark fruit character from the aroma. Finish is quite clean with a low bitterness. Quite tasty in my book.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a great creaminess with a really silky smooth texture. It is really working for me!
Overall: a tasty and drinkable Baltic porter. I think this is my first Latvian beer, and I'm not disappointed.

500mL bottle, no date.
appears a very dark brown, almost black. thin off-white head that fades. a bit of milk chocolate and caramel in the aroma. taste is fairly homogeneous, slightly roasted malt, a bit sweet. a sorta boozy aftertaste. smooth carbonation, medium body. easy to drink.
overalll - seems like a solid example of the style. Baltic Porter, from the actual Baltic region!

Picked up a 500ml bottle for $2 at Euro Market. I'd like more roast in this beer, instead it's too sweet, with a slight cola. There's a chocolate edge to it, but overall the beer isn't that pleasant. It reminds me of the Caribbean's sugary export stouts, but it's as tasty. The body is appropriately thick for a 6.8% porter, and the body is dark brown with red highlights. Not expensive, but not really worth a try unless you love the style.

Out of a bottle this beer was a dark cola-like color with lots of rising carbonation and a tan head. The retention of the cap and then the collar was good and it left lacing in sliding curtains. The aroma was of roasted malt, booze, light hops and whole wheat bread. The flavors were good, starting with a sweet note of caramel and toffee but augmented by the darker elements of bittersweet chocolate, molasses, coffee, rye bread and a hint of hops. The mouthfeel was average, the body full and the carbonation appropriate. An inexpensive, tasty offering from far-flung Latvia. BTW, one of my favorite things about this beer is that the label lists it as a “Lager Ale.” What in the f? Luvit.

The beer had a lovely dark color with a sizable head that dissipated quickly. the beer ribboned nicely and had a sweet full bodied stout taste. Overall a nice porter and a good deal for the price. A definite must taste if you a fan of porters. The bottle design is also very attractive.

From the 25 fl. oz. bottle marked Batch no. 811. Sampled on November 19, 2011.The pour is dark brown to nearly black with a whole lot of silky head and lacing. Malts head up the aroma on the nose with a sweet and yeasty back end. The body is medium and pleasantly silky on my tongue. The taste has a plentiful malty character with a bitterness and moderate hop bite at the finale. The short review is that this is malty and pungent.
