Nice golden look and actually smells really fresh and crisp. Otherwise I'd say it's essentially a normal kölsch, but it's got some character to it and stays lighter at the finish like you'd expect

500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. Pours crystal clear pale golden with a large head, leaves a nice lacing. Moderate aroma of aromatic hops with grassy and citrussy notes. Flavour of pale malts (including wheat) with citrussy notes, also a faint hint of smoke. Tolerable hops in the finish.

Küppers Brauerei GmbH “Küppers Kölsch”
,5l brown glass bottle coded “Mindestens haltbar bid Ende: 06.22. L0109 0G1 0809”. Sampled 30.09.21
€,89 @ REWE CITY, Hohe Str. 30a, Köln, DE
Notes: Brewed from barley and wheat, hop extract, and hops.
Look: Clear golden body beneath an average-sized head of white foam. The head retention and lacing are both very good. Mountains of lace rise up from the glass beneath a sky full of tiny spots.
Smell: The aroma is clean and fresh with a clear note of sharp apple.
Taste: The flavor follows the aroma. It’s grainy and lightly sweet, fruity with a clear note of apple, and herbal and grassy. A firm bitterness anchors it and it finishes dry with herbal and grassy notes lingering shortly.
Feel: Medium-light in body and zesty with a somewhat elevated, very fine-bubbled carbonation.
Overall: While not as rounded as some of the best from Köln, it is balanced, and it does have some character to it.

Very nice drink of beer, but borders on a German Pilsner with it’s hoppiness, it’s a shame that the Hops mask the malt profile needed any proper Kölsch

Pours a bright yellow color with a medium sized, froth head.
Has a refreshing herbal hop character with some underlying straw and sweetened grain to it.
Offers a perfect nuanced, lively carbonation with a light body to it, which drinks darn easy with a nice hop crispness atop of its white bread malts defined flavors.
Strawy, malty beginning with toffee and leafy hops defining the taste, refined by the beers higher, yet soft carbonation. Finishes sweeter, while providing a nice and light late hoppiness.
Nice Kölsch, way more flavorful than its industrial brewed cousins.

This is a fairly decent beer. Nothing offensive in the taste; however, nothing particularly exciting. This is a benign drinkable brew with not too much going on. The aftertaste has some nice flavors, but it lacks any character while you initially sip. It is fairly pleasant despite this. As I drink it, the presence of the flavor becomes more obvious. Might buy this again to drink ice cold in the sun. For something not really exciting, it is very endearing. I recommend trying it.

A: Pours pale golden with slow small bubbles. The light white head is tall and sinks slowly into rather nice lacings.
S: Crisp! Dry malt together with bitter hops. Some citric notes. Clean!
T: Crisp mix between noble hops and rich but also well balanced malt. Citric notes. Not much else is going on - but why mend what's not broken?
M: Light body with rich carbonation - smooth, though. Aftertaste lingers with dry bitterness.
O: Nice and crisp.

On 14th Jan 2012 I decided to have a lager/pilsner/helles/light beer evening: a 500ml bottle of this beer was the first I opened. Poured into three tall thin Kolsch glasses it looked just like I remembered it when I visited the brewery back in the last century.
Golden body, clear, clean and on top a snow white covering of small bubbles: a typical Kolsch in appearance.
The aroma is weak, or understated if being kind, some hop hints and a cereal whiff maybe: otherwise nothing, it gets my usual score of three for a non-smelling lager/pilsner/helles, etc, etc.
The taste is crisp and refreshing, difficult to pinpoint flavours but there is a hop element that gives it a sharp tang towards the end of each sip and some malt presence that ensures the hops don’t take over completely.
Well balanced and easy to drink, a good start to the evening.

Catch up rating from notes, 2011: Bottle picked while travelling through Koln. Another of the standard kolsch lagers, pale golden with foamy head, bready, biscuity, malty goodness with a nice hops bite at the finish. Not outstanding, but solid all around.
